So stunning simple and sharp, it’s a design classic in a way none of the others are. I’m sure it’s referenced in many design textbooks because it’s so pure and clear. And yet there’s even an occasional joke in there too!
It’s amazing.
Plus he even designed the film poster too so they match.
Same. Also very much love DN, TB and QOS.
Of the nominated, I will give it to GE. (GF and DAD are also great)
Therefore it falls to me as Deputy Prime Minister of the DRP to announce our nomination goes to TSWLM, Roger’s trampolining skills are indeed a feast to our eyes.
My top 5 are:
1.TB
2.YOLT
3.DN
4.TSWLM
5.GF
Agree. I'd say Casino Royale would be a close second.
If forced to choose, OHMSS was the first that came to mind and still my personal favorite all around. But the GE-SP have classics in their own right.
Interesting point and one the nominations committee shall consider for future. I had trouble narrowing it down to just 5. CR, YOLT, and even DN were considered for the nominations. Ultimately I made some tough choices to get it to 5.
My favorite moment in all the titles is the beginning of Skyfall, and the two fingers grabbing Bond and drawing him downward. And Casino Royale rates, with the Vesper reveal and Bond turning and firing his gun as some type of salute.
The beginning of the Skyfall TS as you described really is amazing.
Must admit that bit always annoys me: I always wonder why he didn't put them out of phase once they'd stopped marching so they fell down one by one and actually fell like dominos!
:)
TSWLM does have great Roger poses though. So good that Maurice picked them out of the bin and used them again for AVTAK!
+1. The langour of the song with her movements clinches it.
With that said, The spy who loved me for the win
The song helps as well... 😁
I love all the new members of academy that we are seeing wade in with votes and thoughts! We have a nice group of diversity.
Even with a few pixels in delicate areas!!
I always watch out for the lady who runs across the screen, fires a guns and runs off again!! 🥰
@Mathis1. Some years ago, 007 magazine did a “behind the scenes” feature on Binder. And while, I don’t need to remind anyone, there was lots of actual nudity! And of course, the titles for TMWTGG are something else :😊
Among the choices here:
5. DAD/Kleinman – Menacing.
4. GE/Kleinman – Visually it sets the stage for “post-cold-war” Bond.
5. GF/Brownjohn – you really have to admire his work here (and on FRWL) - and for the fact that he actually moved to the UK in the late 1950s for its’ liberal drug laws 😊. Post Bond, he also did the cover for the Rolling Stone’s “Let It Bleed” album. BTW:Back in 2012, the Museum of Modern Art – as part of its’ “Bond at 50” screenings, put together a large exhibit of his work.
2. OHMSS/Binder - I really like the “regal” symbolism of Binder’s work here. And it gives us a chance to gaze again at Ursula Andress, Honor Blackman, etc.
1. TSWLM/Binder – Together with Carly Simon’s vocals, this works as an excellent visual “summary” of “James Bondness.”
Among those not listed here, the titles for CR (Kleinman) always get my blood pumping.
Yeh, i have that issue of 007 Mag. Roger tells an amusing story of him and Cubby walking in on one of Maurices shoots, and seeing him rubbing vaseline on one of his ladies pubic hairs. I think Rog quipped something like "And you're paying him too?!"
