Has anyone noticed that the two most recent MI films on streaming are available but at a premium ? This gives me cause to reflect on NTTD streaming. I've read it will be on Paramount +, at least, at first. This means not only paying a premium -- hence motivating the pirates even more -- but you'd first have to add Paramount + ! How many streamers are folks expected to subscribe ?!!? This...will...not...help...the...film...make...money !!! Let's face it -- Netflix already is way out front, and Amazon Prime got out there, as well as HBO Max and Hulu. But they all already were in the market with similar products -- Netflix goes back to DVD rental, Amazon already with, well, everything, HBO Max goes back to HBO cable, and Hulu to NBC...Paramount + is trying to get people to pay up for yet ANOTHER streaming service, and likely charge a premium for the film, too ? Other than catching some Bond fanatics -- good luck ! People will just wait, or turn to piracy ! And DOWN go the receipts for the film's Box Office, even with streaming included.

We're only scratching the surface of this. Hollywood seems to be all in on the "pivot to streaming", but it seems entirely unclear what that will do to the existing power balances and the way we perceive movie and actor success. The WGA got close to a strike over this last year (one of the problems was that writers used to be able to make money off of stuff like syndication and box set sales; nowadays you get paid once to write the show, it goes on Netflix and that's it) and now the Scarlett Johansson lawsuit will bring it even further. Generally, what a lot of creatives seem to have trouble grasping - or fully understand but are powerless against - is that the success of the individual product is almost entirely meaningless to the streaming service. They all care about different things. In the case of the "pure streamers" like Netflix it's user-base growth and retention, in the case of the bigger conglomorates like Disney, Amazon and to a degree Apple it's about vertical integration of their other products. Sure, the most direct line is from a succesful film or TV show to growth in other areas, but as we have seen in the last year, if they have the option of selling out on the official box office of their films to boost subscriptions to services, they will absolutely do it.

Excellent analysis ! I did write something outdated, though. With Amazon buying in, it seems more likely the streamer would be Amazon Prime, which already has a large number of subscribers. I think the Paramount + challenge with which I was concerned is outdated news.

I hope it's okay to post two links to videos of the "James Bond Club Schweiz. Our president asked a lot of stars and workers of the Bond films to do a short video where they congratulate our Club and talk about anything Bond related they wanted. The responses were amazing (imo).
