The fact that Fleming brought Bond back due to popular demand when he could quite easily have stuck to his guns doesn't make you think that either?

@-) Moore a mistake ?? Please ! He's the best thing that ever happened to the franchise ! Thank god we had Moore and his 7 epic, fun, entertaining films with his oh-so ever magnificient humour and line delivery.

For you (and a lot more of peoples i believe) maybe he's the best thing for the franchise. For me he was a mistake, but doesn't necessarily hate him as Bond or dislike it. Maybe the word less favorable is the right word for me. I still enjoy FYEO and still in my top five.

Hmmm no, because I'm not quite sure why he brought Bond back due to popular demand my friend. I'm not quite sure his motivation, whether his reason brought Bond back were he want to please his fans, or still need more money or he still have a contract to do it more, or he had some kind of obligation in order to make the book still keep in tact with the movies, i just really not quite sure like you my friend.

Both Cubby and Fleming knew that Bond was made primerily for the audience. Fleming would probably have had several heart attacks by now.

This is who Fleming wanted for Bond:

It's hard to picture Niven with a 'cruel mouth' when he's always smiling in every bloody picture. Besides, he doesn't look cold enough.

Niven was one of many actors Fleming thought would be a fit for Bond. In Niven's case it was probably his popularity at the time that attracted Fleming to the idea. Of course Fleming wanted his hero to be depicted by a star.

Fleming was a terrible snob. Niven was an upper class charmer. Class was probably more important to him then anything else. Hoagy Carmichael was rather a "By Jove" type of actor which was probably why he liked him. Which may be an argument of why authors should never have a say in casting. Fleming in 2006 would have probably wanted Jeremy Irons or Hugh Grant in the role.

He would have railed against Craig then quickly backtracked when he saw him in the role like he did with Connery.

Cubby Broccoli? I suspect he would have noticed the Bondian quality to Craig even before casting. Craig was a swordsman around London before becoming famous. He lived the Bond life while being single.

If Broccoli was around in 2005/6 I cant help but think Craig would be his first choice.

but how could they all look like Bond, when none of them looked remotely close to resembling eachother ..... a pretty weak argument.

this is exactly what I've been saying for years, ever since craig was cast. Its a point I make when defending craig and a point I make when backing up the idea of a black bond. None of the bonds really look close to flemmings bond, and none of them look like eachother, so who cares what thier hair colour or skin colour is

would Cubby have approven of Daniel Craigs casting as Bond?

What Cubby chose doesn't necessary make him a good producers or kind of God that we must always agree with him. For me what important is how the actor can deliver the part or at least believable enough to carry the characters. Also with Cubby involvement doesn't mean he produce a good Bond movies either IMO. He recast Connery again in DAF although he knew the actor didn't have any enthusiasm to play the role or make Dalton still had Moore silliness in The LIving Daylight.

United Artists was responsible for casting Connery in Diamonds Are Forever. Broccoli and Saltzman had signed John Gavin. David Picker of UA wanted to make another run at Connery. Since UA funded the movie, Broccoli and Saltzman didn't real have a choice when Connery said yes.

But honestly, i don't really think that what Cubby chose is always good for the franchise. Lets face it he already made mistake by casting Moore and Brosnan

Brosnan got people re-intrested in bond and moore kept the franchise going when it could've died. I don't understand the hate on brosnan, years ago people were begging for him to play the part.

I've spotted a trend, where every time a new bond is cast people slag off the past one.

Fleming wanted Moore in the role, but he was busy. Then CB came up with Connery which turned out to be a golden choice. Roger Moore turned out to be a golden choice. TD was a less lucky choice but worked. Brosnan was his choice and was a golden choice.
You can dislike or like it they were all commercial sound choices and did make a shedload of money. It is business first after all.
I am not sure if Lazenby was a financial good choice but his one movie OHMSS is in my book the most faithfull to Ian Fleming.

Would he have chosen Craig?- Based upon his choices so far I somehow doubt it. But with the succes he would have given his blessing undoubtely.

In my view the succes of the series is due to the diversity of actors and styles played. ANd Craig is the last chapter untill now. All have added to the greater good of the franchise. To call RM a mistake is not understanding the series succes.
