Gosh I remember almost nothing of Cold! That rings no bells. They did fall off a cliff towards the end, although I do remember finding Seafire to be reasonably straightforward fun.

It's been aong time since I read them too but I remember getting those two novels together in December 1998 and reading them one after the other. I actually ordered them both from the JBIFC which you could still do back in those days. I'd already got one of my favourites from Gardner, Never Send Flowers, earlier in the year so I was able to read all of those linked novels in order.

SeaFire was to me a partial retread of Licence Renewed (the oil spillage plot recalled the nuclear meltdown plot from that earlier novel) and Icebreaker (the neo-Nazi revival/Fourth Reich stuff). If you like, it was the The Man with the Golden Gun of Gardner's Bond novels in that it was a partial reworking of two previous Bond novels. The Man with the Golden Gun reworked the Hoods Congress idea from Goldfinger and the train sequence from Diamonds Are Forever. Even the detailed dossier on Scaramanga was a reworking of the dossier for the destruction of M. Le Chiffre in Casino Royale. All of this is perhaps suggestive of the relative dearth of new ideas in the latter stages that results from writing a long series of spy thrillers about the same main character. There is perhaps a certain limitation that applies the brakes in spy fiction which isn't as present in the likes of, say, science fiction where the sky (and beyond!) is literally the limit and where literally anything can, and does, go.

I guess it could sound a little obsequious depending on the tone of voice used (
:P ) but there's something in that one, yeah; nice.

Forever is a nice one though.

Or 'Forever in Her Service' if old Lizzie snuffs it by the time B26 is produced, as a bit of a gesture... :P

I actually had Dreamweaver in mind before I realised, whilst half-watching Toy Story 3 beside my daughter, that was a Gary Wright song (it appears briefly in TS3) :>

It can still work hell bond can take on a villain who only talks in 70’s song titles but will Bond be knocking on heaven’s door or will he be stayin Alive

    Well, yes...and no.

As much as I & many fellow Bond enthousiasts would love EoN to use this (cos it's Fleming, innit?!), the word 'Risico' just has very low international PR potential.
It essentially just means risk in almost every Latin language, and most Germanic ones too, allowing for slight deviations in spelling...

Still, the same could be said for "Spectre" isn't it? And, beyond the critical reception of the film, the announcement of this title was quite praised at the time by fans and general moviegoers. "Risico" is not my favorite opinion for B26, but I don't think linguistic considerations are to take too much into account.

Calipso... sounds like it could be something nefarious Bond has to take down.
