Still hoping for Risico or The Property of a Lady most. If QOS and OP can get a film title, I don’t see why the rest of Fleming’s work can’t.

I think given NTTD's plot and characters I'm surprised that wasn't POAL wasn't chosen or maybe even a OHMSS / YOLT chapter title

The chapter title from Fleming I think would make for the coolest film title is "The Silver Phantom."

One I thought of recently is the actual real motto of SIS (MI6), which means ‘always secret’. That’s a bit naff, but the actual Latin version they use is quite serious-sounding and I think could work:
    SEMPER OCCULTUS

    I kind of like it.

Someone else brought it up in another thread, but it's a pity that HERACLES can't be used. It sounds like an old school spy thriller.

Yes, that does sound good. Really quite classy.

Of course there's a strong chance the title would be vetoed due to concern that an American audience might be put off by something that sounds foreign. The producers never seem to give the US the benefit of the doubt in these things - it would probably be renamed something terribly generic with 'kill' or 'death' in the title.

The Heracles Experiment could’ve worked instead of NTTD

Yes you’re probably right, it rather rules out my favourite title of all which is Deaver’s CARTE BLANCHE. It’s perfectly Bondy: it evokes the continent, sophistication, even gambling with cards; plus it actually describes Bond’s licence to kill. But it doesn’t translate, so I guess they wouldn’t use it.

Someone in the previous version of this thread suggested PERCHANCE TO DIE, which I thought was one of the better ‘die’ suggestions.

Yeah, Carte Blanche is also good, for all the reasons you've said.
I guess if we're being cynical (and hey, that's where I live), and have our eyes on the US market, sticking 'American' in the title might be the way to go. "American Kill"? Completely generic, but probably marketable.

I wouldn't look at a film in, say, 20 years being called Heracles as any less egregious of an easter egg as, say, Milton Krest showing up in LTK having been taken from The Hildebrand Rarity 25 years later.

Out of interest, was ‘Casino Royale’ translated for other markets? I presume that’s one of the few that didn’t need to be translated to other languages (the ones that use the Latin alphabet anyway!). ‘Spectre’ too maybe?

I hope they don’t use a Fleming title for the sake of it, personally. None of the remaining ones really appeal to me. Property of a Lady is okay I guess, and Risico could work. But The Hilderbrand Rarity and 007 in New York would be awful titles for a film imo. I’m still not happy about them using Quantum of Solace.

Some of his chapter titles would be cool though. I do like The Death Collector. And I think Shatterhand has a nice, old school GF esque vibe about it, could suit a more “classic” reboot.

It’s a shame they’ll probably never use any of the continuation novel titles. I wouldn’t want to see adaptations, but I do really like Carte Blanche and Devil May Care as titles.

They will call it "Time To Die"

    Only this time he won't

The audience won't be expecting that!

IMO we just completed a five film cycle of the Bond Identity (Crisis), time for a change

I suggest it half in jest, but part of me still thinks it would actually be a pretty good title, and at this point when the movie series has been running way longer than the novels ever did, why not use itself for inspiration? :)

Ok now I'm going to be serious for a moment

The name of Fleming's home in Jamaica made a good Bond movie title, I've read somewhere that he also had a yacht with an interesting name, which I think would also be a good movie title

    "Shamelady"

Apparently "Shame Lady" is another name for the plant "mimosa pudica" which was suggested to Fleming in 1952 for Goldeneye by his wife, Ann Rothermere.

It's already been used as the title of an obscure, unofficial, fan movie, created by a fellow called Eric Suassine, which even has a imdb page. However he can have no legal rights to the name, so EON could still use it.

On the other hand there is also a book by Stephen Coulter (aka James Mayo), written as a vehicle for his own fictional hero, Charles Hood, which could potentially pose more of a legal problem.

Fleming bought a former donkey racetrack on Oracabessa bay on the northern coastline of Jamaica in 1946 and set about building his home on the edge of a cliff overlooking a private beach which he named Goldeneye. The three bedroom structure was built from Fleming's sketch, fitted with wooden jalousie windows and a swimming pool.

There are several theories as to the names origin, the one I find most credible being that in came from Operation Goldeneye, the allied plan to defend Gibraltar, which he worked on in 1940.

The property now operates as Goldeneye Hotel and Resort, consisting of Fleming's main house and several cottages. It is adjacent to James Bond Beach.

Yes Raymond Benson was quite keen on Shamelady too (did he call Bond's Jamaican house that in his books?) - I'm surprised he didn't use it as a title.

I'm still advocating for LIVE AND LET DIE. And yes, if they were to do that, they should ABSOLUTELY reuse the theme song.

I don't think they would or should reuse old titles, even if they were to somewhat reuse the source material. I think it would just step on the toes of what has come before and would make talking about each film extremely tedious.

Since EON now own everything McClory held so how about James Bond of the Secret Service? Or they could use that "parachute on top of Statue of Liberty and have sharks with frickin' lasers on their heads in NYC sewers" -script for 007 in New York. I think they might even consider that title if NTTD underperforms in the U.S.

That reminds me that Horowitz also used the name for a villa in Forever and a Day. It could work, even though it could have better fit for Craig, in the continuity of Skyfall and Spectre.

On the same plant name basis, I’ve always thought TIGERLILLY sounds quite Fleming-ish.

Heh! I guess there is that.

A bit like how Shatterhand is apparently a character from German Wild West books or something.

I thought it was interesting that Fukunaga mentioned in an interview(I think it was with Collider) that they looked at unused Fleming titles and chapter titles. Maybe they'll do that for Bond 26

    Clearly not hard enough...

As the following Fleming titles would of been perfect for Bond 25

    The Garden of Death
All the Time in the World...

but the past is the past

    It depends on tone

If we get a fun Brosnan light popcorn affair
    ShameLady
    Shatterhand
Death to Spies (though I kind of think that will be the title of the new novel from Horrowitz)
    Smersh

of course if they are going they are going to continue with Fleming styled plots

    Risico
    The Hildebrand Rarity
    The Property of a Lady
    The Silver Phantom
    Midnight Among the Worms\
    Death is So permanent
A Whisper of Love A whisper of Hate

    etc
