I think the title should directly refer to the name James Bond or "007". At least to an Ian Fleming title. A knew actor to play Bond AND a fantasy title that would work for any other spy/action movie as well could be a bit too much outside the James Bond formula. That's why I would call it James Bond 007.

The only thing I could see working is maybe "007" or "Bond" but I would hate it if they did it. Bankrupt creatively imo, but I see the appeal.

    These are nice.

    More developed from some phrases:

    Out Of Your Skin
    Fire Without Light
    Louder Than Words

That's what I thought when they called a film 'Licence To Kill' to be honest- a phrase long associated with Bond which they just kind of dumped on the front as a title, even though it isn't one really. But we happily accept it now so maybe '007' or 'Shaken Not Stirred' or something we would eventually accept too, but I do agree with you that it feels a bit flat. Maybe a 'No Deal Mr Bond' kind of title would work.
In terms of villain quotes which namecheck our hero, I kind of don't mind 'Kill Bond Now' :D

Thanks :) Those are fun too. I like the kind of 'living daylights' link to 'Out Of Your Skin'.

The title should not reference Bond's death. Best to save titles with die in them -- of which I've offered a few -- for a later time. A good title will often lend itself to a good song lyric. In the post Fleming era I feel Gardner has had the better titles.

Very much agreed, though I love Kingsley Amis's Colonel Sun too as a title.

    Here's a new title suggestion:

    Late For Your Own Funeral.

In principle I'm against reusing titles but I'm willing to make an exception for Devil May Care. It's too good a title to be wasted on Faulks' book.

Yeah it is perfect, I'd be more than happy for them to use that.
I feel the same about Carte Blanche to be honest: it encapsulates everything about Bond in one phrase- his attitude to life, his licence to kill, allusions to playing cards, European sophistication... it's a pretty perfect Bond title.

    Carte Blanche

Audiences will think it sounds like the ice cream.

I suppose that they could use that as the name of the ice cream in a film version of John Gardner's For Special Services. ;)

It has a Fleming lineage too which is always good. This is made clear in the Afterword to the novel.

Here is what AI came up with

    "Shadow Protocol"
    "Diamond Vendetta"
    "Fatal Deception"
    "Zero Hour"
    "Cipher Nexus"
    "Rogue Protocol"
    "Black Sun Rising"
    "Deadly Alliance"
    "Ghost Protocol"
    "Code Redline"
    "Quantum Mirage"
    "Viper's Gambit"
    "Spectre's Endgame"
    "Final Betrayal"
    "Legacy of Shadows"
    "The Omega Directive"
    "Venom Protocol"
    "Empire of Espionage"
    "Inferno Rising"
    "Golden Reckoning"

Remember, these are just suggestions, and the actual titles of future James Bond movies will be determined by the filmmakers.

Some seem more fitting for a MI title. I do like Empire of Espionage but it doesn't roll off the tongue. The Diamond Vendetta sounds interesting too!

Ridiculously I forgot that PERCHANCE TO DIE comes from a Fleming chapter title, in TSWLM. That’s my top pick then.

Was just watching a bit of TMWTGG and Scaramanga's line to Nick Nack made me think of a phrase which might make a fun title:

    Be The Death Of Me

It's not quite there but kind of in the right vein.

Yeah. It's really in the right vein. It could just work.
