During travel last week I tried and failed to get a copy, and now revert to the US release date.

The nice folks at Thalia Book Store were helpful to confirm they did not have it, but checked another location within two miles that ordered the English version to arrive Wednesday or Thursday that week. I checked Wednesday and it hadn't, and so did return travel without it Thursday.

    I will abide.

Probably nothing to do with Double O, but:

The link is gone. My guess is a title for book 2. Or a possible character introduction or comeback. Or another spinoff book for a iconic character. Another idea is a 70th anniversary celebration edition of Casino Royale. A big deal would be Dynamite Comic’s Moonraker adaptation. Or just another Dynamite Comics storyline.

I'm guessing that link (that I also don't see) was in regards to the Ian Fleming FB page teasing an announcement on James Bond Day.

Could they be announcing a new continuation author already? Or the publication date of Kim Sherwood's next book?

Feels like the second Sherwood book might be the most likely, but it could well be an all-new thing. A new Bond in the pipeline would be nice.
I don't know if they're trying to hint something with the eyes/see you thing.

My hope is a new author to do modern day Bond novels (or heck Kim Sherwood to write bond novels as well)

Definitely a joke. It's a spoof Eon employee account referring to the extortionate prices Eon charge for their official Bond merchandise. Would make one think that SPECTRE was involved somewhere in the pricing. Extortion is their business, after all.

There is something we haven’t had before. I wonder what it be. It is true regarding this trilogy of books. A spinoff of 00 agents in any media.

Well to be honest there are by my count only 4 options

    1. Kim Sherwood second book: a meh for me to be honest as we already know there will be one so it’s a non announcement
    2. Anthony horrowitz is doing a 4th bond novel: which is a meh and half for me I get he has his fans here but all 3 books are just ok to me
    3. Another writer is doing 60’s or 70’s bond . Which ok I guess that might be interesting I just don’t love period piece bond to be honest
    4. A writer is going to do a modern James Bond novel: now this would fill me with the most joy

    Two questions

    1. Do you get a sense of Kim Sherwood’s James Bond 007?
    2. Does Bond get mentioned at all?

    Thanks

I wasn't going to cut this, but got worried. Could be mild spoilers.
He gets mentioned a lot! Though we never see him in a present setting. There's a decent amount of flashback type scenes that feature him. He's had a big influence on Bashir, Harwood, and of course Moneypenny. Dryden is the only main character that specifically never worked with him and doesn't think of him much one way or another.

Sherwood's Bond seems relatively in line with a modernized Fleming Bond. He's got the comma hair description, philosophy of living extravagantly because of a likely short life, and is torn between wanting to retire and not being able to let go of being an agent.

He's specifically aged 45 and had moved to a combination role of training agents and intermittent missions.

It's mentioned he's had two great loves in his life. Vesper is mentioned by name, could assume the other was Tracy. His feelings for Harwood are implied to be on that level. Which is the main part I was iffy about because while we do get some flashbacks of them together, it wasn't enough for me to be convinced their feelings were worth that status.

Without going into major spoilers territory with the details, we do get information on the mission where he went missing, too.

Ok Becaue of this I will pick up double or nothing whenever I get around to finishing With a mind to kill…
sorry Bond as the bad guy feels weird and wrong even though it’s a cover it still feels wrong

    That's espionage, friend.

A more affordable copy of Talk of the Devil (2008) would be much appreciated but I doubt that'll be what's announced.

Finished Double or Nothing on my holiday and loved it. My Goodreads review below:

This is the first in a series set in what I guess we should call the Bond Expanded Universe. 007 is offstage but integral to the plot and frequently mentioned. The story focuses on three 00 agents and on the staff back at headquarters (some of whom will be familiar, in name at least, while others are new).

I found the tone and narrative a perfect update of Fleming, with just the right levels of violence, technology and weirdness, and, of course, a great deal of product placement. The action scenes were really well done, especially the car chases, and I ended up heavily invested in the plot and the characters (particularly the one who shares my surname).

My one gripe: I loved all the references to previous Bond adventures, but they tended to be overexplained. Let those of us who are going to get them, get them with just the one clue and feel clever, and move on for those readers who are less obsessive about Fleming's back catalogue.

Finally, a warning: James Bond is (we hope) sacred and off limits, but anyone else is fair game...

I will read double or nothing when I get my hands on a copy (sadly I am guessing it will be in my Easter basket) but to quote my favorite line from Highlander endgame

“Duncan I thought I would be home for dinner an hour ago but this is all very impressive”

I thought I was the only fan of endgame

    Me three.
Just don’t ask me to quote anything from it.
(Though I have one or two from the pilot of the Tv series that stay with me.)

A new short story collection could be fun. You'd imagine you could get a few well-known writers to contribute a short 007 story as it's a bit less of a commitment.

I’ve been reading The Big Book of Sherlock Holmes stories. It has multiple short stories by big named authors over a century. While Bond couldn’t get as big as Holmes’s book, I would love a similar book for Bond.

Yes I have that, although it's more of a lot of short stories from the last 50 years or so gathered together rather than a new collection.

You could even go a bit inventive with it. Have a couple of authors do totally straight Fleming-style short stories, one set in the present or future, meta ones with one eye on the films, one with an old Bond, a comedy one etc. Why not? Play around with it a bit.

Marple: Twelve New Stories is a new collection of continuation stories by current authors, pretty successful I believe.

Yeah it could be fun to do a Bond collection, couldn’t it?
