Is it non-PC to say Ms. Sherwood is a darn pretty lady? I think Fleming and Gardner would have approved.

She is. And a very nice one at that! She answers some of my Tweets on Twitter. I love her enthusiasm, we’re really lucky to have her be a part of the Bond family! She once mentioned that she’s a big fan of comic books. I’d like to see her write Batman, Superman or Wonder Woman.

I just started DOUBLE OR NOTHING today. Can't say I am happy with the amount of profanity she uses. Not needed in a Bond book. Never has been and never will be IMHO.

That did take me off guard but I like it, makes it feel more real, more modern I suppose and set it apart from other Bond novels. But I know people have different thresholds for this sort of thing, I hope you can enjoy the rest of it regardless.

(As a general question though: Does Tanner have the honour of having the first fully written f-word in the literary Bond series?)

I am one of those who doesn't find profanity in novels or films necessary or real. In film it often comes off as a weak substitute for the expression of genuine emotion. When it calls attention to itself, it seems silly. And I am not talking about replacing a damn with dang, which is equally silly.

But? Don't use the movie cast people, especially Bond.

Did it bug anyone else that Radio Times kept switching between 'licence' and 'license':

As it is Bond (and on Radio Times- owned by the BBC), should it not be 'ce'?

Radio Times has nothing to do with the BBC, but you're right, it is an error as they're both in the form of nouns.

I attended their Bond online chat last week and it was really good - if you can get to this one, please do, and I'll see you there!

Yes, I watched it afterwards, as I didn’t have time to attend virtually. I’m really grateful that IFP got not only a fan of Bond, but also someone not born in the 1950s. Kim has a great voice for supporting the series, her knowledge of Bond is a standout. IFP should go this way for the future I think. I still think IFP should give a adult Bond novel every 1-2 years, with a character spinoff somewhere in-between.

I just read the plot description. It sounds slightly inspired by the Octopussy film. Good to see a Bond(less) story set at Sotheby's for the first time since the TPOAL short story 60 years ago too. I do like a good auction scene in a spy or crime story.

Some more information from Kim herself:

Unfortunately for fans, there's still a while to wait before they can get their hands on the book – with hardback copies landing on shelves on 25th April 2024, priced at £16.99.

Sherwood previously teased a little about what fans can expect from the second novel during an exclusive interview with RadioTimes.com earlier this year.

"I guess I can say that people will get to revisit characters who hopefully they've grown to love from Double or Nothing," she said. "There'll also be some returning fan favourites and some new characters.

"But, tonally and structurally, it's quite different from Double or Nothing. The stories all flow together, although you can read them as standalone, but I was really interested in how Fleming in each of his books innovates in some way, he never does the same thing twice.

"So I've tried to be structurally and tonally a bit different. Tonally, I think it's darker. and structurally, I've tried something kind of new and hopefully exciting for the reader."

She also revealed that she planned the novels as a trilogy from the very beginning and had already mapped out where things will end up after the final instalment.

"The first thing I wrote was actually the last scene of book three, so I kind of have a roadmap and I know where I'm heading," she said.

"But I think the more you write a book, the more it tells you what it wants to be. So I had the outline from the beginning, but then the ideas have evolved as I've been writing the series and my hope for it is that the stories flow together as a trilogy."

I wonder which fan favorite characters will comeback. Place your bets.

I guess that wouldn't just be as simple as the scene where they find James Bond?

I more than half expected "Double" to continue through the titles.

Maybe considered too obvious. Could have really tied the tome together.

    Double Blind
    Double Agent
    Double Down
    Double Up
    Double Cross
    Double Trouble
    Double Entendre
    Double Talk
    Double-Edged Sword
    Double Vision
    Double Eagle
    Double Whammy
    On the Double
    Double Time
    Double Dutch
    On the Double

I forgot that the Alpine A110 at Goodwood Festival of Speed this year had a copy on its dashboard. Quite sweet.

In her most recent video, she says that she is writing Book 3 in the Double-0 trilogy. I wonder if she will want to continue writing Bond in the future. Maybe next spring with A Spy Like Me, she and IFP will announce her future with Bond. I'd like a villain spin-off with her writing.
