  • Okay yeah, that looks pretty great. Wish they hadn't given away so much of the helicopter stunt (I feel like we know how most of it is going to play out now which is a shame) but it looks very good.

What confused me though is how people rave about this while at the same time criticising the Craig era/SP. Obviously the stuntwork is on another level but fancy cinematography, drama around the main character's past coming back to haunt him, going rogue/up against his own government, conflict between M/Alec Baldwin and other government types, building it up as what all the other movies have been leading up to, the idea of "choosing not to" and the job weighing on him, sound familiar? That trailer felt a lot like the Craig era imo.

Agreed, it looked very Spectre inspired in places.

For me it's all about the execution rather than the concept. I was aware of 'brother' prior to viewing SP and was willing to give the team the benefit of the doubt. I wasn't happy with the execution. I can pretty much forgive anything (including SF's numerous plot holes) if it's pulled off in a holistic and integrated fashion.

If, at the end of Fallout, we see big pictures up on the wall of all of MIs previous bad guys, then we know we are in trouble.

Dear me. Please don't remind me. I'll never forget that moment in the theatre. I thought the shark had truly been jumped.

Great trailer! With SP in mind, I know not to be too excited before seeing the final result, but this one really made the most of it.

The thing that worries me with Bond these days, is the personal angles, and the "darkness" of it, in lack of better ways to put it. You see Mission Impossible touch upon certain aspects of the same things, yet keeping it lighthearted enough, and more fun. I think the balance is better in the last few MI films, than the Bond films.

I guess you guys must also hate the opening title sequence to OHMSS. ;-)

What would have made it even stranger (and funnier) would have been if there was a random photo of Koskov or 006 or someone on the wall too, just to provoke the fans further.

I am avoiding the trailer but reading your post makes me smile. That's exactly what they've been doing so well over the past few films. Homaging and evoking classic Bond and bringing it up to date. I'm really looking forward to this now.

@patb, Jean Reno appears during the finale, scarred up: "It was me, Ethan, the author of all your pain. Now give me the floppy disk."

Not too much of a spoiler ( it's only a few seconds ) but in the fallout trailer.
There's a hall of mirrors , an homage to the hall in the DNA clinic in DAD which
Itself was an homage to the hall of mirrors in TMWTGG .
So many wheels within wheels. ;-)
MI keeps giving great action movies, while Bourne has .... Burnt out.

People have been doing hall of mirrors since at least Orson Welles directed The Lady From Shanghai in the 1940s. Blake Edwards did it in Gunn in 1967.

I didn't know it went that far back. I think TMWTGG may have homaged the prior year's Enter The Dragon.

    Good to see it still.

Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.

But in this case it's a definite DAD reference.

    Your point being ?
We're having a little fun pointing out homages from espionage films in other
Spy movies. Not the history of film making :-D

I’ve rewatched it several times and yeah, all I see now is QoS, SP, DAD, FYEO, and CR vibes mixes with Tom’s usual running, jumping, and hanging. I hope Superman beats the snot out of him.

Amazing to think because of a moustache, so much money had to be spent
On reshoots with Cavill as Superman !

Cavill is really giving his all in that fight scene.

I know his chance has past, but I wonder if he wants to show
" This could have been me as Bond ". :-D

I can't see Cavill getting Bond given MI is likely going to be a huge smash and he's also known for Supes.

I can't get over just how vicious those punches he is throwing look. I feel bad for whatever sad sap is in the middle of it all in that scene.

I think Cavill is too well known now to take on Bond. Despite the fun of
Mentioning actors who could be 007, I think the next guy. Will not be
Well know, as Daniel was not too well known when he got the gig.

Cavill is still young, isn't he? Have already starred in more than one spy film, though, so there's a chance that has made him "uncastable".

Unless he dies in MI; Harrison Ford has shown that an actor can play more than one iconic character

There are a few references to United Nations Humanitarian staff/systems, implying that the plot centres around some kind of disaster?

I have no doubt Cavill could do it. My point is more about EON not wanting their prized possession to be known for something else famous (even if in the past). Perhaps if they sold the franchise new corporate owners wouldn't care but I can't see this current leadership going with it.

Saw someone note this on Reddit, thought it made for a very cool point. In 2006, Paramount was close to firing Tom Cruise during his crazy public/TV appearances. Now, 12 years later, they're relying on him to deliver the biggest hit for them they've had in a while after several disappointments and bombs.

That's a good point. Cruise suffered due to the Oprah 'incident' and I'm pretty certain that impacted MI:3's total box office. Hollywood has a way of trying to tear you down. Kudos to him for reinventing himself and coming back strong for the final years of his action career.

It was McQuarrie who brought him back to A lister status by writing the superb Valkyrie in 2008.
