That cut sequence with the cable/rope makes me think that it's meant to be a bit more tactical, stealthy entry, which would've meant that the event itself is restricted actress. Perhaps it was intended to be a different building/location at one point during filming, though I suppose if not, they merely cut it since we get so many action beats in a row during that entire sequence. Certainly would've added more logic to the film (and the moment itself in the trailers looks damn cool).
Excellent sequence in all though, and nice to know that that many Parisians barely ever need to use the toilet! :)
Tom Cruise is just brilliant! \m/
:))
While I did like Fallout, I do think the fact that the plots haven't actually been worked out and are constantly being written and rewritten while the movie is being shot is a genuine flaw with these latest instalments.
The stunts and action scenes are incredible, but it does come at the expense of the characters and the story. It's a series of well-done action setpieces that could be slotted into any kind of plot. It works effectively but it means that 6 movies in, we still don't have a lead character. Just Tom Cruise with a different name.
That's why, as much as I enjoy these movies, I don't think that they'll never have the staying power of the Bond films.
You say they won’t have the staying power of the Bonds, but in terms of time we’re already nearly up to the point where the Bonds were making Licence To Kill.
The film series is the same way - an incredible ride and seeing Cruise in charge and doing some crazy, death-defying stunt is worth the price of admission alone. I am, however, getting tired of the dismantle the bomb/stop the launch code ending, the team being forced to go it alone, the traitor in the department and untrustworthy secretary who ends up supporting them in the end.
More MI!
Also, can anyone notice the movie they are spoofing whilst filming the car chase yesterday???
Loving what I’m seeing of this film so far.
That yellow car though. LOVE it!
Definitely. Proper lighting and filming angles can do a lot.
I'm fairly sure the Light The Fuse guys asked him this on their podcast and he said they'd be ignoring it. I think that's the right way to go, it wouldn't be an entertainment otherwise.
It wasn't too long ago that the action/spy genre struggled to avoid making any references to 9/11!
I'm not complaining about that, incidentally- it's all in the way it's done; there are so few truly original ideas. Jason Bourne drove a clapped-out Mini and no-one said that was a FYEO rip-off.
I wonder why Cruise is in the passenger seat in some of it but the drivers seat in the long shot.
True. It's way too early to insert the pandemic in films, since films are seen as an escape from that subject.
Yeah, not least because we don't even know what the situation will be by the time these films are out- even the stuff made at the start of lockdown feels dated now!
But yeah, what do you think- handcuffs? I can't make out what's on his wrist; it looks a bit bigger..?
Exactly. Having to acknowledge the pandemic would take audiences out of the movie and instantly date it as well.
I'm mainly looking forward to seeing what interesting things they can do with the two-part structure. These movies do love their twists after all.
Better Hayley Atwell (who’s underrated in my opinion) than Jennifer Lawrence or Scarlett Johansson (who are both EXTREMELY overrated).
I wholeheartedly agree. Then again, I've always had a crush on Atwell Atwell. Ever since they made Brideshead Revisited into a film (even though it was a poor adaptation).
It seems more similar to Bourne to me in terms of setting and cars involved, it's really only the colour of the car that makes it in any way like FYEO.
The funny thing is, didn't we see Rebecca Ferguson practising in the Fiat when they were in the UK just before lockdown? So either she somehow gets in there as well or it's another MI change-of-plan! :D
I dunno, is that her? Could be Atwell.
The black spray also seems to suggest they've converted it to a suicide doors model, I wonder if that plays some sort of part in the action.
