Only beef with Fallout is the License To Kill ripoff scene. But okay, if you rip stuff off, rip it from the best....

I highly doubt any similarity was intentional

Yes, the prison van scene, the only real difference is that it wasn't Sanchez' face. ;)

I guess we see these scenes differently.
Aside from a prison van being submerged in water, these are the only similarities I see.

It's the whole thing- van in the water to cover underwater break out by scuba guys....

I don't really see it as a ripoff, scenes get repeated through movies, it's not exactly an iconic scene, and to be honest I think Fallout does it better: that shot of Lane preparing for the water to hit him is superb.

Yeah, they did improve on it.

We have reached a point where almost every scene, every sequence now filmed can be compared to something previously done.

Mission Impossible has been accused "ripping off" Bond; while certain elements have been similar, I highly doubt that the creative team behind the MI films intentionally tried to duplicate anything seen in a Bond film.

While I agree the similarities between the Fallout scene and Licence To Kill are pretty basic, Nolan did riff off the PTS from the latter in The Dark Knight Rises, so it does have a lot of stuff for people to take inspiration from.

However, the PTS is certainly more iconic and I agree that Fallout took the submerged transport truck idea and made something immeasurably superior. It's a great moment in a great sequence.

Yeah I'm pretty sure no one would ever on purpose rip-off that tv excuse of a Bond film

If Fallout was going to pay homage to a Bond film, might as well be one of the best Bond films.

    YES!!! I concur!
Ghost Protocol, Rogue Nation & (especially) Fallout are a golden trilogy for me. Killing Ilsa in Dead Reckoning brings it back down to silver. 8-|

Not that anyone from Paramount looks on this thread but if you want the film to do big box office maybe don't show the stunts on X or TikTok or YouTube prior to the film's release. You will give people a reason not to want to see it.

    🙄

I might be in minority here but the last 2-3 films did not live up to the hype for me :( I liked them but not as much as everyone (and everyone ADORED them)

Hope the finale(?) makes me feel the same emotion i've felt before. Will be hyped for it no matter what and will try to do a mini marathon before the newest one is released, I do have high hopes
  • I watched a Few Good Men the other night. I think that could have a good sequel if they could come up with the right story. Tom Cruise could now be the veteran lawyer.

Yes, of course I'll HAVE to see it. I still feel like killing Ilsa was a cheap writing move. They'd already faux killed her off early in the film, and Hunt's original girlfriend's death is enough of a real motivator. Also, Ilsa (as shown in the previous two films) was more than able to handle that stiff jerkweed....

And here are my marathon ratings- how much I enjoyed them, not objective ratings of the films themselves:
    M:I- 8
    M:I II- 10
    M:I III- 8
    Ghost Protocol- 10
    Rogue Nation- 10
    Fallout- 10
Dead Reckoning- (depends on pt. 2- if somehow Ilsa's not REALLY dead, could be another 10, if she really is dead, probably another 8.... we shall see...)

The thing that struck me in DR was how similar the Hayley Atwell Grace character was to Ilsa and to Thandie Newton's thief character in M:I 2. Physically, Grace even looks similar to Ilsa. I hope they come up with something solid to make her inclusion worth more than just adding a fresh face to the cast.

My understanding is that Rebecca was busy and only had time for a very small role, so the director decided to kill her off & replace her with Hayley. He wanted to do the same with Jeremy in Fallout, but Jeremy declined to do it.
Another note on my Marathon- all the films looked gorgeous on Blu ray- except M:I III. It was pretty ugly a lot of the time IMO. The digital colour timing & altered hues JJ imposed on a lot of scenes was very un-film-like. At least he didn't fill it full of lens flares, LOL.

    More insanity from Mr.Cruise.
It’s part of the joy of the MI films for me.

Just a few months to go. I'm fired up for how this all ends. There's nothing out there currently that gets my jaw to drop like this series and its stunts.

saw the first trailer on the big screen on Sat, looks superb but we have come to expect that, it's all about the script IMHO, I would happily sacrifice a stunt for a great story, I don't think I'm unusual in that.

That new trailer looks great, anyone else think the plane going up during the barrel roll reminded them of that shot in Spectre's pts?
