A damn fine straight-out pursuit off course ;-). By the way, why are your surprised that we didn't see Mission: Impossible-esque action in Rome? Let's just wait for the final product, the final teaser trailer for "SPECTRE". Iconic visual action moments are great off course, but let's see how it fits in the narrative.
I thought we might see some setpiece stunts within the chase. I don't recall any from the footage or the stills we've seen, other than
Irrespective of the narrative the plane stunt looks badass. Like Bond skiing off asgard, or the dam jump in GE.
It looks bad-ass indeed. I just hope that we're not including such stunts solely for this "bad-ass feeling".
And it's only one scene. I prefer a car chase to be a real good car chase. Something that I haven't seen since "Ronin". The plane stunt in "Rogue Nation" looks bad-ass, but also reminds me a bit of Tom Cruise hanging on the Burj Khalifa in "Ghost Protocol". What's next. Tom Cruise hanging on the ISS Space Station :-P?
Yes, I'd like something like Ronin in SP, but not sure if that's what we'll get. Those cars look too clean for them to want to 'mess' them up.
The BMW bit in MI looks incredible at this point. Hopefully the CGI holds up (another thing that could spoil it for me if not done well). It certainly looks real enough in the trailer.
Bond films have always done this. I don't mind if SP does it.
It was the moment in the trailer when I thought, 'Yes. This is looking great'.
Yes, but Bond films shouldn't just repeat themselves. This image comes to my mind:
Great that "Furious 7" and "Rogue Planet" have their own variant on the above scene. But for SP a plain solid car chase works better I think. Simplicity, pure driving skills, without too many swirls and tricks, IMO could work better.
I'm not talking about the car chase. I said one thing about the stunt in the alley looking cool, which it does. If you don't think it does, cool. What I was initially talking about was Hunt hanging on the side of the plane. You said...
I was simply saying Bond films have always included stunts simply because they are badass. If SP does this, then I'm cool with it.
Wait, what? So, what you're saying is that because we're Bond fans, we can't like Mission Impossible too and wish it success? What sense does that make? The spy world is massive and believe me when I say that franchises can and have co-existed with each other inside it. Bond and Mission Impossible share fans who love thrillers packed with action and intrigue, so I don't see why it always has to be a competition between these films when they share a common audience. Both are popular, both will crush at the box office, and both offer their own unique elements of audiences. Believe it or not, the world won't implode for these two franchises sharing the stage, along with Bourne and UNCLE.
Good point. Now that you mention it, that's exactly what it's like.
Don't remember Bond deliberately taking out two bikers. I'll have to watch it again soon.
OH. MY. GOD.
They've outdone themselves with this one! :O
This looks fun...I don't get why they revealed that Pegg at some point will wear a mask of someone.. (probably Ethan)
But yes, this looks good, I love it !
I hope the story of this movie will continue in the 6th movie which will be last..it will make sense to have Cruise's movies end with 2 trilogies.. then they can cast someone else or have someone like Renner continue or whatever.
On a side note, does anyone else get the feeling that the only "major" action setpiece of the movie is the motorcycle chase? I realize that the plane has a huge stunt in the Burj Kalifa mold, but it doesn't seem like an action setpiece...unless they're holding out on us, which I hope is the case!
I think there's going to be plenty of action, especially between Ethan and this new woman, who I really, really, REALLY like so far.
The big set pieces could be the car chase, the bike chase, the plane traversal, and it looks like some great stuff will kick off at some gala or high society event.
I'm also very very VERY happy that Rebecca Ferguson is going to play a "Hunt-girl" with perhaps a double agenda. "Can she be trusted?" It seems they are really giving the characters a deeper background and more "gravita". Seeing Rebecca getting out of that swimming pool is 200% "Bond", reminds me a lot of "Casino Royale". Could she be a modern-day Fiona Volpe? Let's bring on the "Hunt-girl"!!The fight scenes are absolutely stunning, not only those of Rebecca Ferguson, but on the whole they remind me of recent Bond films. There's some real Craig-esque Bond-flair to these fight scenes.
Then the scenes in the tube. Well, where did we see that before. I'm with @RC7 though about that airplane stunt. Absolutely stunning. Reminds me of the airflight stunt from "The Living Daylights". With a difference: THIS one ROCKS, as Ethan Hunt is doing it entirely by himself.
It seems like the car chase comes right out of the bike chase, but you're right - I'm sure there will be a good amount of action. And frankly, it doesn't NEED a ton of action. The show never had much. I just want cool, clever missions with lots of team work and espionage.
MI:2 on they became action movies.
It looks like Cruise will deliver big time with this one.
For me, last time MI:4 was one up on SF. I thoroughly enjoyed GP a lot more than SF.
But this time... having read the final script of SP and aware of the trouble haunting the MI-production? Too early to tell of course, but I have a feeling that SP will be the best action-movie of 2015!
