What the ____ where they thinking by bringing him back for TMWTGG!
Pepper in DAF??? What a genius idea!
I wholeheartedly dis-agree with Thesis #32. I used to dislike him, but now, c'mon, what's there not to like?
Love your enthusiasm, DC007! :)
Anyway, I disagree with the main thesis. J.W. Pepper is a wonderful character and one that even casual fans of the series remember with fondness.
I'm talking about the direction the series took, starting with DAF and continued throughout most of Moore's tenure.
One of the reasons I get a chance to see Golden Gun is for the Clifton James character turning up -, 'Boy, you is ugly', 'Get your cotton picking snout outta ma pants d'ya hear', 'Little Brown Pointy Heads', 'Get that piece junk outta the road', 'D'ya ever think about gettin' a drivers license boy', 'whassa matter with you, you pointy heads never seen airplane before' etc
I prefer him in the second when he's on vacation with his wife in Thailand rather than the redneck sheriff back in Louisiana. I found him amusing actually, and wish in hindsight he maybe could of appeared in subsequent pictures, can you imagine him in TSWLM when Moore is snooping around the Pyramids.- 'That there boy is where they found Tutankhamun's tomb boy', or Moonraker even - 'Don't go in that there shuttle boy, it ain't no toy'. Yes I would of liked to have seen him more than his two appearances, genuine moments of humor whenever he was on screen, I can't find a bad word to say about him
Although in JWs case I would like him to have the odd line as well.
'Did you ever think of getting a drivers licence boy?' - genius. I'm always shouting that when I'm stuck behind some arsehole doing 20mph.
If only Pepper walked into Electra's castle instead of Zukovsky.
(It helps to read this with Pepper's voice).
(Pepper walks in) "I'm Sgt J. W. Pepper and I am here to investigate a missing submarine. Lookie here girlie. I am a deputized law enforcing person from the United States of America. Why you're that British secret agent from Ireland who can't pronounce the letter R. Even us Cajuns can pronounce an R. Now sit tight boy, let me shoot you out of that chair. (Suddenly points gun at Elektra). Uh uh uh Missie, hands and skirt up boy, I mean girl. (Pepper shoots Elektra then kisses her).
"I've never done that before".
I think it would be a mistake to include Hitchcock. You'd have to use CGI to start with, and we know where that leads...
But seriously, is the inclusion of the character James Bond not a sufficient link to the past for the 50th anniversary? DAD tried that whole idea of 'referencing' every previous film and it fell a bit flat.
'Boy, I gotta Lil' itch down there boy, would you mind Boy'
'now the whole of the Louisiana State Police Department are gonna know that you died scratching mah balls boy' etc
I suppose we can maybe put him in any Bond scenario from any point in time and make references but there's one example, the possibilities are endless even if we can't really do it
Michael Madsen's Damian Falco could have easily been omitted from DAD.
Agree.
Although i loved him in Reservoir Dogs! He did not need to be in this movie?
Why?
Who?
Lots of elements could have easily been omitted from DAD but I liked Falco. I enjoyed the scene where he lectures M via Skype about the actions of the renegade 007 and the scene where he lights his cigarette after Icarus shuts off. For the Brosnan era, I find him an improvement over Jack Wade.
I know, right? I thought, "He's in that movie?"
Not appropriate in a James Bond movie
Yes he was not really required
'Yes he SHOULD HAVE!!!!!!
How about an even more pertinent thesis - 'Halle Berrys Jinx Johnson could have easily been omitted from DAD'?
All I remember is:
"Well, well. James Baaahnd. Just in time for the fireworks."
If he had said - 'Berry, you are an embarrassment to this movie, leave now and never show your face again until the end credits roll', I might just have held him in higher regard
