Who do you picture when you hear the name James Bond?

When someone says THAT name, which of the 6 actors (if any) immediately springs into your head? For me its usually Connery or Brosnan but what about you?

Be honest :)

Connery. Always Connery. For many years Connery was the only Bond I knew. I guess that's where this 'condition' originates. ;;)

Craig. My mind always jumps to the current Bond.

It's always either Dalton or Craig for me.

    Connery, Brosnan or Craig.

Connery is the definitive Bond but I grew up with Brosnan as Bond, and he was the image used for all the video games of the 90s and early 2000s, as well as any "shadow images" of Bond used for any other promotional material. But since Craig is the current Bond I also picture him.

When I just hear "James Bond", I actually don't think of any of them.

Same here. There's only 1 "true" James Bond ;)

I'd agree with Disco here. No one person comes to mind, if anyone it's the current Bond. I'm more inclined to picture the world of the Bond films or Fleming's novels.

Usually Connery in the DN opening Casino scene, sometimes Lazenby introducing himself to Tracy in the PTS and very occasionally I think of me because of all the time I've spent aiming my toy Walther PPK at the mirror and mouthing those immortal words with my eyebrow raised.

    Ditto here.

I've never actually read any of the newspaper comic strips or the collected versions of them, but I find John McClusky's rendition of 007 incredibly provocative; so much so that in my mind he displaces the various actors (with whom I'm much more familiar) as the default James Bond.

I've started reading Fleming's Bond novels again (in no particular order), trying specifically to keep track of what incarnation of Bond I instinctively picture over the course of the book. Diamonds Are Forever broke down as follows:

Daniel Craig ≈ 5%; mainly during the dinner with Tiffany Case towards the end of the book.
Sean Connery ≈ 10%; most memorably (but not only) during the taxi chase.
John McClusky's version ≈ 85%; pretty much everywhere else.

@JobeGDG you must get the omnibus Volume 1 and 2. Both very good books and of course a good excuse to have what will be 6 or 7 books compared to the 17 there were before.

I hope Volume 3 is announced soon.

I usually don't picture a specific actor unless the comment about James Bond is directed toward something from a specific movie.

When I read the books I have a face that I picture, but it is not that of any of the actors (but Connery and Dalton would be the closest).

It's not always the same. Lately, it'd probably be Lazenby but that's probably because OHMSS is the Bond film I've watched the most lately. If I'm on a kick watching another actor's film, I probably think the actor who starring in it, i.e. Connery if it's TB, Dalton if it's TLD, Moore if it's TMWTGG, etc.

To be perfectly honest, I'm not sure any actor, person or face jumps into my mind when I hear the name 'James Bond'. It's more a personal emotional reaction, sort of like: 'Ooh, James Bond, that's James Bond, that is! The character that's been my hero for 21+ years!'. You know?

In terms of audio, that reaction is pretty much summed up by this... B-)
  • Daniel Craig more than any other right now, most likely because he's the current Bond. Historically a combination of Connery circa 1964 and Lazenby.
  • Sean Connery automatically pops to mind, specifically Connery in Dr. No.
  • Sean Connery, in the Moore-legs apart-gun up pose from FYEO...Bond did the same thing in the TSWLM novel...and Connery is who I see when I read the books.

me, dalton, he seemed 2 be Bond, wished he did more. But connery puts me off saying that sometimes. All bonds are good though

I'm a pretty big fan of the strips myself, discovering them only with the recent Titan editions. McClusky's version to be is the better one, but nothing wrong with Horak. I just prefer McClysky's drawing, seems to be more classy.

I'd agree with that St. George. When I hear that name I can't help but say "Yes!" to myslef and "and I'm a very proud fan - what an amazing character he is".

Maybe I even picture Fleming above everyone else.
  • Brosnan.
  • Myself ;-)

Actually to be honest, i dont visualise any of the actors who've played him, anymore.

Bond has had so many faces now, that when i hear his name, i just see a vague image along the lines of Flemings description.

Funny...while Connery is my favorite Bond, I still think of Moore. There's is something about him; he has the snobbish, Etonian way about him that reminds me of Fleming's Bond.
