You grow up with it and you kind of develop a Bond thats hard to break ;)

I'm not saying its the best but its one im fond of.
  • I totally understand. That's why Roger Moore has such a special place in my heart. The first two Bond films I saw were Moonraker and Octopussy on VHS and they were my favorites as a child. As a adult I still love them but I can admit that quality-wise they aren't the best. That goes to the likes of FRWL, OHMSS, CR, DN, ect.

I do admit that GE has its weaknesses but (IMO) it's still a very enjoyable movie largely because of the characters and the slick action. Royale still wins though.

Now If you were talking about TND (the first I saw in the cinema) I can probably be a bit more objective as I'm (now) no where near as fond of that one. It's alright but too cheesey (although Broz does give a more confident performance).

Y'see, I must be one [expletive deleted]ed up person, because while my first Bond was Moore (first Bond film I ever saw was Live and Let Die on TV when I was eight), he doesn't rate as high for me as Craig, but then again, I've always preferred darker toned films to light-hearted comedies.

Of course your not, it's called growing up - and it sucks ;)

No, I just think I'm [expletive deleted]ed up. Of course, I have a [expletive deleted]ed up family, too. I'm neutral on Moore and prefer Craig and Connery's Bond, my dad loves Moore's and Connery's Bond, doesn't even know who Lazenby is despite the fact that I've seen him watch OHMSS a dozen times at least, my brother believes Connery and Brosnan are the definitive Bonds, wishes Moore had been burned alive in a vat of lava (his words), hates Lazenby and Dalton just because they didn't have a lot of movies, and for some reason believes that Craig's Bond is a prequel to the others just because Casino Royale starts with Bond getting Double-0 status.

What a great way to be introduced to Bond! :) MR and OP are my 2 favorite Moore Bond films.

  • It seems that almost everyone I speak to (and I'll include myself) have their opinions really cemented by whichever Bond film they see first. Although I no longer have GF as my favourite Bond film I still find that Connery IS Bond and can't believe that anyone could ever surpass him in my own personal tastes (Craig would seem to have the best chance of the other five actors at present).

But as I get older and see the series progress I have far more tolerance for films and actors that I previously despised (I used to refer to Moore as the Anti-Bond). To each his or her own...

TLD was my first bond film, I still enjoy it but I like LTK and TWINE better than it now

Similarly I remember Desmond Llewelyn saying that he had a lot of people ask him who the best Bond was. According to him the answer was "whoever you saw first". That settles it - Brosnan is the best ;)

That's not necessarly true. I think Connery and Craig are better tha Moore but I'll admit when someone says James Bond, Moore usually pops into my head first. It really is all about first impressions witht the Bond series.

I think you've nailed it there.

Yes, Double0hhSeven definitly nailed it - even thought I absolutly love Moore as Bond, rank him far in front of the others, whenever James Bond pops in a conversation, Brosnan is the first Bond I think of - as GE is the first Bond film I ever saw.

youngins my first was NSNA and maybe even in the Theater! Book Bond is cold gritty brutal in a suave kinda way...very little joking around save for a dry comment here and there. He is all about the mission...

Brosnan in GE= playing off Sean Bean and the fight. He is up there as a non-fighting Bond.

For me its CR back to the essence of IAN core book version but updated for today...no hamming it up with gags or "clowning" around. I like my Bond believable, a real agent. Good way to get your cover blown or bring all the attention to yourself...goofy off like Jeff Dunham.

I'm with the both of you on that one! GoldenEye wasn't the first one I ever saw, but Brosnan and his first appearance always come to my mind.
  • @00Beast. I see this little side conversation has started it's own thread. I'll comment on it soon. Good idea :)

Well, now I know we're on equal footing when it comes to our arguments. I, too, thought you were older. Now I find I'm the older one (by a year, so it doesn't really count).
  • Hey I'm only 23. Technically I was born in the Dalton era but Brosnan was the first Bond I saw in the cinema. However I watched both Moonraker and Octopussy before I saw a Bond film in the theaters so really Moore was my first Bond.

Wow, I obviously got into Bond fairly late on. I'm 26 and didn't get into 007 until the age of 9. Before that I'd seen bits and pieces of Bond films but wasn't wowed by them (even seeing Jill Masterson lying on the bed didn't turn me then). It wasn't until I saw GE that I became a fan. That made me buy and watch all the others on VHS.

Even so, despite watching all the other actors repeatably, Brosnan was always my favourite.

I'm only 15, and I started being a Bond fan at the age of 12 because my cousin had Nightfire, and the rest is history!
  • Damn @00Beast I didn't think you were so new to the Bond series. I've been a fan since the 90s. ;)

I've been a fan since the 90s. While my film introduction was Live and Let Die, my real introduction to the franchise was GoldenEye on the 64 back in '97.

Must have been a joyful thing, enjoying one video game and realising there's an entire movie franchise behind it. ;-)

Yes, yes it was. I had just finished the game when my dad called me into the living room to watch a movie, and there it was: Live and Let Die. That was a great day.

Same with me! I always played Nightfire with my cousin at his house, and then I realized that there were movies about James Bond. That's one reason why I hold NF in such high regard, because it got me started on Bond.

I remember getting GE64 and a N64 for Christmas back in 1998 when I was 7... Fun times, played multiplayer with my brother and my dad... and then one day my uncle showed me GE the movie... I was instantly hook. He then proceeded to show me his older outings (FRWL, GF, TB, YOLT, DAF, OHMSS, TMWTGG, TSWLM, MR, OP, FYEO, TLD, LTK)... and within 2 weeks I was a Bond maniac !!

Sounds like you and I both started with a video game! I rememebr playing FRWL and then hearing that it was based off a movie, so I rented it at my local Blockbuster and I was so amazed at how epic a Bond movie was! Then I just kept renting Bond movies at Blockbuster and then eventually started to buy them.
