100%, Pierce really sells this film. It's not perfect by any means, and it's taken me a long time to enjoy it. If you can accept the silliness and fantastical elements, then it's a really fun movie.
No sillier than YOLT or MR.
There was a Usenet group called alt.fan.JamesBond and I remember one hardcore fan declaring it 'the best Bond ever'. I wonder if he still thinks that?
There's one of them for every Bond film, even NSNA...maybe not CR'67.
Wait! Orson Welles, David Niven, Ursula Andress, Peter Sellers, Jean-Paul Belmondo and several more stars! What could possibly go wrong???
Agreed. I’ve been just as harsh as everyone else on DAD at the end of the day. But it was the first Bond film I owned on Home Video, and I remember watching it over and over again while always having a fun time. Even today Id rather watch DAD than the likes of QOS, SP, and maybe even NTTD.
And so we come to the end of Pierce Brosnan's tenure as James Bond. Personally I think he had another film in him. But it wasn't too be.
Next up we'll look at Daniel Craig's debut film Casino Royale.
However, I'm afraid it will have to wait till next week, as I'm out of the country, and haven't been able to work on this thread while I'm away. BTS will return 12th November.
Same here. Pierce really deserved the chance to go darker with his portrayal, but that still doesn’t take away from how great he was in the role. He was one of the best Bonds certainly.
I'm a DAD defender myself, but if Mathis1 likes CR67 better than the Brosnan films that's his choice, there's no reason to call someone else's opinion 'utter nonsense'.
Oh come on, ring! You and I have been communicating more or less since 2006 or so (on IMDb until 2017), but I agree that valueing another board member's opinion as "utter nonsense" goes too far. I like GE and TND, both even somewhere in the middle of my ranking, but with TWINE and especially DAD I'm tempted to watch CR67 instead sometimes. It's crazy, but once you accept that the movie really IS nonsense, it can be sort of fun. Though only then, and if I really wish to watch a comedy I'd probably pick something else. But other than that, it's a question of personal taste, and not of fact or nonsense.
Like 2001, I think CR '67 is probably best enjoyed in an altered state.
Love how there are wounds on Bond's back in this deleted scene.
From being whipped in the PTS, I suppose?
