Would you rather a PTS with a big stunt or action piece OR a more grounded PTS?

Well I know I could please Q with a bottle of Château Angélus Premier Grand Cru Classé Saint-Émilion 2005, and receive something epic in return.

Well that was a slam dunk! Good job with the love of cinema and the BIG screen experience. Nice to know we are aligned with that!

    Lets do a whimsical one:

Would you rather do a gift exchange with Q or with James Bond?

On one hand we have someone who can give gadgets from voice changers, to little trinkets that can trick slot machines. From pocket cameras, to tricked out wrist watches. Q would undoubtedly please any person who loves to get a gadget for Christmas.

The other hand, we have James Bond. The man who replaces champagne on the list if he deems it to be out of line with the meal. A man who knows good from bad brandy and sherry. Clothes make the man and Bond has a superior sense of style.

So who would you rather get a gift from? Bonus points for telling us what you would get them for Christmas.

A difficult queston, now that I've hd thee pleasure of buying rather expensive suits myself, and understand the difference in quality and all-round experience. And having a good bottle of champagne is also a highly enjoyable experience. At the same time all those gadgets are cool, and I'd be highly interested to see if Q could upgrade one of my model trains.

However, right now I'm most concearned with the freedom of Ukraine, so I'll ask Q to get me some novelty gadgets to help the Ukrainians win the war. In return I'll buy him a very nice fishing rod.

Great stuff! I think Q would be a great person to receive a gift from. Though a nice bottle of brandy from James would be a top notch gift too. Okay I shall stick with Bond!

    Moving on to another scenario:

Would you rather watch QOS OR SP?

Lets have a battle of the Daniel Craig movies. This are his least liked films, or at least ones that don't seem to get much love here.

In one corner, a fast paced adventure. Some great action set pieces. Editing that makes it difficult to follow the action. We have an unrealistic jump from a plane. An evil organization that has people "everywhere" called Quantum. We have Bond being disavowed again. Some weird character beats with Bond dumping Camille in the arms of a stranger at a marina and Bond dumping his fellow spy and friend Mathis in a dumpster.

In the other corner, a long winded adventure. We have some nice action set pieces and a foster brother Blofeld. We have an adventure that retcons in the previous 3 films and tries to say it was SPECTRE all along. We have an evil organization that has infiltrated intelligence organizations around the world.

Both films feature Mr. White, Judi Dench as M, although SP is a blink and you will miss it performance. We have a first time Bond director against a returning Bond director.

Which one is going into your Blu-Ray player?

QOS just about any day. My first 1-3 watches of SP, I ranked it higher than QOS, but as time went on I came to realize SP was actually one of my least favorite Bond films, and by far my least favorite of Craig's run. I've always enjoyed QOS, but especially in more recent times. It's just outside of my Top 10 by a few spots. SP meanwhile languishes in the bottom 3.

    Easily SP.

QOS feels too generic, like a Bourne knock off that could have starred Gerard Butler.

QOS easily (and I have Spectre mid tier).
Second only to CR in my opinion.

I like both a lot. In fact I'd rather watch QOS / SP than SF / NTTD.

Returning to the current question, I think I slightly prefer SP at the moment.

SP. Granted its got many problems but I find it much more enjoyable than QOS which was such a disappointment for me in the wake of the near excellent CR'06.

Neither is perfect, but both have moments of true beauty in there that I think more on-the-nose efforts like SF and NTTD do not deliver.

Both flawed films which don't reach their full potential. I think a major issue with QOS is that from a simple technical/filmmaking perspective it has moments which are near unwatchable, and I think a big reason for this was the questionable direction and a lack of coverage under the time constraints. Often times it lacks a bit of that Bondian flourish/fantasy and consequently feels a bit too much like any mid 2000 action movie at times (I know fans often say this 'grittiness' was a hallmark of the early Craig Bond films and is what makes them stand out - I don't fully agree as CR actually still noticeably had those more traditional 'Bondian' elements and these were integrated even more so from SF onwards). That said it has some great stuff in there, and despite my criticisms of Forster I think he did some good work when it came to helping ironing out the script.

SP is a bit more flawed from a script perspective, and even with the comparatively polished cinematography/editing I don't think the creative choices themselves feel as coherent as Craig's other films (ie. the yellow tinged colour palette which arguably adds little, and even something as impressive as the long opening take lacks tension and beyond 'looking cool' serves little purpose). That said I tend to gravitate towards it a bit more as it feels more like a Bond film and simply has that mixture of absurdity/fantasy mixed with a bit of darkness, which is what I personally prefer out of my 007 adventures.

So yeah, I guess it's SP. But I do revisit QOS on occasion. Regardless I think Craig's other films stand out much more.

My #2 Bond film versus the one that will likely forever sit in dead last. Easy choice on this one: QOS.

QoS is a few rewrites and a decent edit away from being a great Bond film.

Spectre is a page-one rewrite away from being a great Bond film.

So I would rather watch QoS. It's also nice and compact, Spectre does tend to drag on a little bit at 2hr 30mins.

I just find both movies to be towards the bottom for me personally. There are so many other Bond films I’d rather watch personally haha.

SP, although I do really like QOS. I'd much rather watch CR a thousand times in a row than either SP or QOS once, but that's neither here nor there...

Lets do a New Years Eve would you rather.

Would you rather spend New Years Eve with Tiger Tanaka OR Marc-Ange Draco?

One would have an underground subway to avoid traffic, a wonderful bathing area with assistants who wouldn't get soap in your eye. He'd have ninjas to protect you if things got crazy and even rocket cigarettes if things go really out of hand.

The other offers a wonderful sense of sophistication. Corsican brandy, plays chess and other games with. He has connections to the underworld which likely means some wonderful parties to attend. Marc-Ange can also supply helicopters if a mountain rendezvous is in the offing.

Which one are you spending New Years with?

Tiger Tanaka. At least I know he won’t try and bribe me into marrying his daughter after one drink! Tiger will at least show me the city, take me for a ride on his private train, ply me full of sake and then treat me to a “bath” at the end of the evening….

Going back on the previous question, QoS. Glad to see it's getting more and more love.

Tanaka or Draco. That's a very, very difficult question. But when it comes to Nye, I think I'd go for Draco. He's got that boisterous fun southern European blood that will make sure your evening will go utterly different from what you expected.

    Definitely Tanaka.
There are so many other Bond films I’d rather watch personally haha.

Agreed. I generally prefer to rewatch almost any of the ones from the 1962-1987 era myself.

Same here, but my cutoff point is 97 personally. Any thing afterward I usually find myself watching as part of a “Bond marathon.”

As for the question, probably Tanaka.

I'd also have to pick Tanaka. The man knows how to put on a show and a good time.
