Would you rather news from IFP and book news in 2025 OR EON and film news in 2025?

    Whichever is earlier.

Summer. I have never seen a Bond movie in theaters when it was released in summer before

    There's that too.

October/November releases are generally pretty perfect for Bond. I know some people would like to see a Summer release but it can be a bit risky, and under the wrong circumstances a Bond film can underperform if put against certain releases at the same time. I can’t see them deviating from end of year releases.

I just find summertime too crowded. Maybe that's a false perception. I also find going to the movie on a cold day more comforting.

Christmas. I can watch and enjoy Bond at any time of the year, but fall and winter is my favorite.

And happy Christmas to you! As we're still waiting for it to happen, you're probably already half way through. On your flip flops (won't call them strings here), on the beach. Not jelous at all, looking at the gray raining season outside. not at all..

    sorry, will stop whining.

With Christmas in the air seems like a good time to talk about release dates.

Bond has released movies in 2 seasons up to NTTD. Christmas or Summer. NTTD due to a variety of reasons in the fall, though I think at one point was looked at for a Spring release.

Many thoughts go into the release date of a film. Studios usually push out their clunkers in January and February. August is another month where movies that aren't very strong are released. Course a few years back Marvel released Black Panther in February and had a smash but I think this was counter programming.

More recent Bond films have tended to release in November. However summer was a time of Bond too. Especially in the eighties with OP, TLD and LTK all having summer release dates. Since GE I believe all the films have released in the winter months.

Thinking ahead to the next film adventure:

Would you rather Bond 26 be released near Christmas OR the summer?

Give your reasons as to why you think that time of year makes the most sense for a Bond film.

I couldn't give a rats buttocks to be frank, I just want a new film.

I have fond memories of going to see Bond in the Summer months throughout the 80's! Having just watched LTK again, I remember the very hot Summer it was released in, in 1989 ( One cinema advertised in the press, about their air-conditioning with 'Stay cool with Bond!')
I wasn't happy to see GE released later in the year, but it became the norm, and I got used to it!, but I would like a return to a Summer release!

Given LTK's summery vibes, I'd say Summer probably felt really fitting for it.

My first Bond in theaters was DAD and with the whole ice theme Christmas felt appropriate. Then CR started off in b&w, QOS had a final scene in the snow, SF was rainy trhouhgout, SP's last shot was in London and NTTD's first scene was in snowy Norway. So I suppose for me a Bond film has always been fitting for a more autumn/winter kind of atmosphere.

Some research shows the following films were released in the summer months:
    • You Only Live Twice
    • Live and Let Die
    • The Spy Who Loved Me
    • Moonraker
    • For Your Eyes Only
    • Octopussy
    • A View to A Kill
    • The Living Daylights
    • Licence to Kill

All others were released in fall or Christmas movie season, with some being released in the week before or during Christmas. Vast majority of the films were fall/winter releases. From 1977 to 1989 every other summer a new Bond movie. Wow!

Interesting that in 1964 North American audiences had a chance to catch Bond twice on the BIG screen, with FRWL and GF. Russia released in Spring and GF released closer to Christmas. Both DN and FRWL had big delays between their UK and North American premiers.

Merry Christmas to you too! We're several weeks into summer now. But it has been pretty good, not too hot. 2019 summer reached 46 degrees and I got sick from heat exhaustion. Happened to be on the day of the work Xmas party too, so unfortunately I couldn't go. In Australia, flip-flops are called thongs, and the classic thongs I remember from my childhood are double-pluggers. It's double or nothing.

Ah, that's the word, sorry. My memory let me down there. I remember a member here in the 'bad day' thread complaining it was pouring outside and he only had his thongs on. So somebody suggested carefully that should've been in the 'good day' thread. Hence my mixture of the words.
When I was down under the first time I tended to go bare footed most of the time. Only in Darwin that was a bit of a problem, even though my soles had doubled in thickness, it got so hot asphalt could melt, and that was definitely too much to bare.

Hope you won't have it that bad again this summer. Love the country and hope to be able to visit again in a couple of years.

Christmas season. Bond movies have a festive feel to them, with the exception of the recent ones.

Time to think about the New Year. This one might be a reach but lets see how people feel about the coming year:

Would you rather get Bond film news in 2025 OR Bond book news in 2025?

Both the cinematic and book world of James Bond is a bit of a standstill.

Ian Fleming Publications are not letting that stop them from creating content. We have had the Kim Sherwood trilogy, and we have a Q mystery series coming. No news on a new continuation author or what direction they may take after AMTK left Bond with an ambiguous ending thanks to Anthony Horowitz.

EON seems to be at an impasse with Amazon if the recent Variety article is to be believed. While it sounds like Amazon would like to do what IFP is doing and create "content" with the James Bond Universe but EON is resisting this. Bond was left seen going to vapor in NTTD and did indeed perish. No actor and no news regarding a follow up.

Which one would you rather see hit your social media? Announcements from IFP on a continuation novel, or perhaps another spin off character or story?

Or EON announcing something with the Bond film series? Maybe new physical editions of TB, AVTAK, and GE which will all celebrate anniversaries. Expanded soundtracks for these films in 2025?

@thedove Don't forget On His Majesty's Secret Service by Charlie Higson from 2023. That was the last Bond novel, not With a Mind to Kill. Book news next year means we'll probably get a book by the end of that year. In any event, I'd prefer news about the film, something along the lines of moving on from Amazon or director discussion. One can dream.

I've always been a book Bond fan first, and I'm eagerly awaiting the conclusion to Sherwood's trilogy, theoretically that might arrive late next year. Plus the Gail Simone comic run which has gone quiet as far as I can tell.

But Higson writing a proper Bond novel - not just a hastily put together novella - would be the dream. Plus, to the extent that I don't like any mega corporation, I reserve a particular ire towards Amazon so quite frankly I'm not particularly interested in seeing any Bond movie from them. Good on EON for (allegedly) putting their foot down.

I agree with @QBranch I wish for film news before book news. However, we know that the Q Mystery is coming in October (https://www.amazon.com/Quantum-Menace-spin-off-character-Mysteries-ebook/dp/B0D98NGNH2) and hopefully Kim Sherwood will finish her Double 00 trilogy (which should have Bond in it as it is the finale). Hopefully we'll get something from both! Plus, maybe IFP is taking that survey we took this year seriously.

I'm not such a big fan of the continuation novels (in a broader sense, meaning everything after Fleming) and haven't read most, not to say nearly all of them. I don't really care if anything new comes up in that regard. Therefore, I'm all for (good) news about the film franchise.

I’d prefer movie news myself. I’m not a huge fan of non-Fleming Bond writings, at least of what I’ve tried.

Beyond the occasional blip, I've been over the continuation novels for a long time now. So, film news. Noticing that the question wasn't related to news about B26, the thing I most want from EON is a full-fat, uber version of QOS. 17th-anniversary edition would be a bit odd, though...

Good catch @Venutius I decided to be more open with the movie news to hear what people might like to hear announced for the coming year. I love your creative 17th anniversary of QOS. Why not?

I would like to hear Marc Forster’s commentary on the movie. I’m curious about what he would say about it now.

Same here. Most of the continuation novels I read have just been let-downs to varying degrees. Only the Horowitz one was palatable to an extend.
