@007ClassicBondFan wins, 😂. Very nicely played.

I’d take a Mr.Barry score. @mtm said it best:every bit of John Barry is gold dust

Thank you @peter, the Barry Nelson fan-club is always open for people to join. We don’t have many members right now, but give it another 50 years and we’ll grow slightly!

As for the actual question, the only way I’d take a Connery starring CR over the masterpiece with Daniel is if the film was made immediately after FRWL. Barbara Broccoli said it best when she stated that there wouldn’t have been a feasible way to make Casino Royale work following the formula/standard set by Goldfinger, which is ironically another reason why they held off on filming OHMSS for the longest time. And as is the case with OHMSS, the wait for an EON version of CR was well worth it. Sign me up for Barry.

    Connery in CR.

It would take more than a John Barry score, to make NSNA at the least, tolerable.

Although I think DAF and NSNA are a bit naff, I can't pass up another Connery film, so CR it is.

Good stuff! I would be in the Barry camp. I enjoy NSNA as Connery seems engaged and energized. Yes the script has issues, but overall it's an enjoyable romp. I would love to have this film with a Barry score. I understand why Barry didn't do it but what may have been!

Okay lets move on. In a couple of scripts of movies that never made it to filming we had some rather outrageous scenes and ideas. As someone just used the word "naff" I think that might describe these ideas.

    Warhead 1976/1977
    • Bond in the New York Sewer system chasing down Blofeld. Maybe crazy enough, but the script by Connery and Len Deighton raised the crazy by having the sewers have laser shooting sharks! Yes that is correct Bond against laser shooting sharks.

    Bond 17 1990/91
    • Fresh off LTK EON decided to take Bond in a different tack. Both scripts for this never produced movie, had a cyborg character. Mind you this is back in the Terminator days so maybe that fueled this idea. In both scripts the robot was a female human and later in the script it would be revealed that the character was a robot. In one treatment it was also revealed that the main villain was using the robot for sexual relations.

So picking from the lesser of two evils, or maybe choosing the least crazy idea.

Would you rather a Bond film that featured laser sharks OR a female robot/cyborg

Female cyborg, as technology is being viewed as a villain lately.

I'm always intrigued with the robot sharks, if anything that plot (especially the climax in the Statue of Liberty) would've make NSNA more better!
Even the title alone (Warhead) would've been more interesting as a title than NSNA (aw, Michelline!)

A female robots (being used for sex or having sex) would've been a bit cringe for me, and I don't think Dalton would've fit in it, but Connery in that plot would've possibly fit (as long as it's going to be handled carefully).

I could almost see and imagine the sexual female robots thing as almost entering the Die Another Day territory (with over the top technology).

Looking at the concept alone, I'm going with the Warhead draft idea, this is such an easy choice for me.

I've actually read the Warhead Drafts in the internet, and I'm actually intrigued, like I think it would've been a lot more better than what we've got in NSNA (to which was a recycled version of TB, although it improved on some parts from the original).
  • I feel both concepts are a bit too far fetched for me. But if I was forced to pick one, I’d go with Warhead. It’s not like it would even be part of the EON series, so it doesn’t impact them in the slightest the way the other option might have.

That depends, would Bond be allowed to openly flirt with the female Robot, or did Isaac Asimov contemplate the new moral grounds regarding gender interaction in his laws of robotics?

    :D

Frankly, if the robot looks like Vikander in Ex Machina, my mind's made up. No sharks for me.

One script or screen treatment I believe did have them flirting not sure it went further than that. But the villain sleeping with the robot was in the script. I'm trying to get my head around a Dalton Bond featuring cyborgs. Especially after LTK.

Man, this concept makes me appreciate May Day sleeping with Bond, but please not a robot 😅.
That would've been too weird, moreso than DAD invisible car or that CGI Tsunami Wave 😅.

It would have destroyed the series.

As much as I would've loved a 003rd Dalton Bond film I vote for:

I remember reading about this in Steven Jay Rubin's The James Bond Films. It's too bad for Connery's and McClory's non-EON Bond film they couldn't have explored that idea instead of remaking a story that had already been filmed correctly the first time back in 1965.

A 003rd Dalton Bond film that followed the GF/TSWLM formula after his first two followed the FRWL/OHMSS template sounds intriguing though I'm not sure the cyborg themed script would've worked for his Bond.

Good stuff, the mind boggles at what might have been! Crazy to think how Bond came close to having cyborgs in the plot.

Okay lets move on to another one this is a viewing movie one.

Would you rather watch the first three Bond films OR the first three starring Craig?

Connery starred in DN, FRWL and GF and came out very hot. In terms of Box Office the films gained popularity with each film. There was some continuity with DN being mentioned in FRWL and Trench showing up in FRWL after appearing in DN.

Craig took over the role with what some consider to be the best Bond film ever in CR. The producers tried something unique with QOS and had it taking place minutes after the ending of CR. Finally Bond returned in SF and rocked the world, this film frequently lands in the top 5 of more fan lists.

So if you had the time to watch the three films which set would you rather watch? Connery in the first three or the first three of Craig?
  • Connery’s first three without a doubt.

    Depends upon my mood.

The thing with the Connery films, despite (or regardless) of the quality, are a bit slow to watch nowadays (it doesn't helped that most of the earlier films lacked action which made me rewatch them less).

I still liked the First Three Connery Bond films and the quality in them are far superior than the modern Bond films, but they're not as rewatchable for me as the modern Bond films (mainly because those are more fast paced and more action).

Unlike the first three Craig films, where they're more faster paced to watch and more action.

It depends, sometimes, I'm in my mood to watch the Connerys, sometimes the Craigs.
  • As fan of older James Bond film watching Sean Connery first three would be my choices please.

    Connery without question.

Has to be the first three with Connery. Hard to beat those.

I have to go with Connery’s first 3, but 5/6 of those are in my Top 10, with QOS only being just a little outside and CR being my very #1 favorite. It’s tough. Definitely very mood dependent, but I give the edge to Connery for the consistency. All amazing movies though as far as I’m concerned, with no other actors having 3+ consecutive movies that appealed to me as much!

Previous round: Gonna go with laser sharks because at least it might be closer to contemporary than futuristic cyborgs. One sounds Bondian too while the other belongs in classic sci-fi. Maybe there's something there with the sharks and lasers - maybe you could adapt that with a bit of imagination - have the sharks guided by an invisible laser designator device to their target, a bit like combining scenes from NSNA and the TND video game.

Connery trio over Craig for sure. CR is just behind FRWL for me, and I like QOS and SF about equally these days, but DN and GF trump those latter two films considerably.

Depends what mood I'm in. I think Goldfinger and FRWL are superb, but Dr No is pretty rubbish. I think CR and SF are superb, but QoS is a bit rubbish too.

    First 3 Craig's, blasphemy I know
I love Connery's first 3, espicially FRWL, but Casino is my favourite film and Craig my favourite Bond.

Both groups contain two of my favourite Bond movies, so the other two make the difference. And l like DN considerably more than QOS. So Connery it is.

Connery was my first Bond, but CR and QOS mean more to me on a personal level. Shame SF's so far below the standard of those two but, even so, I can't live in a world without Craig's first two, man - so CR-QOS-SF it is.

Connery’s first three are in my top 10. Same with Craig’s three. However, I’m a classic man, so Connery it is.

I would even take TB, YOLT and DAF over any Craig trio, any day.
That is to say the first three Connery are pretty much unbeatable.

Like others said it depends of my moods. By default I'd say the first three Connery because they're more consistent, however I enjoy all Craig's films to different degree and I respect the way they took risks.

I'll go with Craig's 3. FRWL is the only one in my top 5 from Sean and Craig has two of those in my top 5. Therefore 2>1. Although i do like FRWL more than SF.
