Mid-50s too old.
I wouldn’t like either, unless the mid-50s Bond was an actor who had done several films, and this was the last chapter of his era. Then I could get on that train.
A mid-20s Bond just wouldn’t be appealing IMO.
But if I had to choose the two, I'd go with an older Bond. Although if we were to go that route, I'd push him into his 60s and make him a proper veteran. Have him retired. Spend most of the film following him in Jamaica, spearfishing and sailing. Make something unorthodox.
Yes, I love this. I wish, wish, wish there was just a little more of this in NTTD. Just him waking up, diving into the water first thing in the morning with his spear gun… following a little of his life before Felix calls him back to duty…
Agreed. Arnold is not unlike Raymond Benson.
New, I think. I'd like as much new blood as possible the next time around. Time for a fresh start.
And on the second question, I'd rather see a Bond in his late 20s. We've had so much world-weariness in the series as of late and I think a younger, rookie-ish, or at least learning-on-the-job Bond (e.g. the MR novel's Gala Brand arc, or the FRWL ending with the Baretta being taken away in DN) would be nice for a change.
Early-career Bond, who makes mistakes or misjudgments. I don't want a Mary Sue Bond who does everything perfectly.
Lets move on to another question. This one features two other popular aspects of the Bond universe.
Would you rather a new Bond novel OR a new Bond video game?
Ian Fleming Publications has been hard at work churning out books based on side characters in the Bond universe. They did work with Charlie Higson to get On His Majesty's Secret Service out as a short story. But otherwise it has been all quiet on the Bond novel front.
Meanwhile back in 2020 IO Interactive announced a new game was in development. This set the fandom ablaze. Since the announcement there has been scant info, other than it's an original story not based on any actors portrayal. When might it be released?
Which one would you rather come out first?
I could wait for another Bond novel, yes, even it would take years, but a video game seems so exciting for me.
Video game. It’s been a full gaming generation since we got a proper console game. As for the novels, I think IFP might be taking that fan survey from the summer seriously. Maybe we’ll find out Tuesday.

Same here and oh my gosh I have to think Carey Lowell would be up for it.
More realistically this fits my concept of a Bond short feature (IMAX or otherwise) presented in theaters between the film releases. Focused and entertaining. Ideal to keep the audience interest for Bond. Injects a historical lane to react to, kind of Bond primer for the unitiated. And sets a precedent to return to with actors in the Bond role. Promotion, recognition, celebration.
I'd take the Bond novel option. But if a game can re-energize the franchise the way GoldenEye assisted I'd easily defer to that. That would be great Bond history playing out.
- return of David Arnold - a guaranteed winner where as a new composer is often hit or miss
- mid-50s Bond - I get a kick out of veteran Bond making fools out of younger enemies
- new video game - preferably something like GTA or another top-down like the 1998 Game Boy game

Yeah. The game would help draw Gen Z to Bond. That should be the aim, so Bond 26 would be a big hit.
I think some people don't realise just how big some of the Bond video games were for certain fans. Again, not a gamer myself nowadays, but even I've played the big Bond games when I was younger/years after they'd been released (Agent Under Fire, Nightfire, Everything or Nothing, From Russia With Love etc). I have good memories of them too. Actually they had really good stories. From what I understand Bond video games haven't really been a big thing during the Craig era, and the ones that did come out weren't great.
It can't hurt to try and reinvigorate that area of the franchise whatever way.
Exactly! The world of Bond...so exciting. So many mediums. We will never get enough of this secret agent and that's a good thing.
I'm interested to see if the new Indiana Jones game reinvigorates that brand a little as there seems to be lots of interest, maybe that will happen with Bond too.
Exactly my thoughts, used to play some videogames when I was younger. Not hardcore videogames but those that related to things I like outside that world (i.e. Bond, LOTR, Greek mythology, ancient Rome, knights and castles, car racing, football, ...).
Today I don't play videogames anymore, but having such fond memories of being submerged in the world of 007 when I was younger, I would definitely make an exception for Bond.
As for the Bond novels, I have read only the Fleming ones and I'm not really considering going any further...
After watching Calvin Dyson's video about the final scenes of Bond actors in the series, I thought I would ask the following:
Would you rather have a planned end in mind for the actors last scene OR have it be like any other ending?
Daniel was the only Bond actor to have a planned ending. The ending was created by Craig himself, or with heavy involvement of Craig. He wanted James Bond to die at the end of his series of films. It polarized the fan base, but for the first time we had an actor deciding how to go out and helping to craft that ending.
All other actors either didn't think their last scene would be their last as Bond. Connery and Moore were leaning more into getting out. But Dalton and Brosnan had no clue that this was their last scene, therefore we get a winking fish, and Halle lying in a bed of diamonds.
What would you prefer going forward? The actor gets a thoughtful send off from the series OR just a normal ending to their last film?
Would I ask if Barbara's plan of rebooting Bond was something she had in mind since, maybe while Brosnan was still Bond? Because she could've given Brosnan a proper send off at the time, if she's planning to reboot the series and look for a new actor, so, did she have that idea after DAD or while still in the middle of Brozza's tenure?
A proper good bye might be a good thing for future actors to have. I rather like the idea of it. Please no more killing off the character but give them a nicer send off when we know it's their last film.
Would you rather date Jill Masterson OR Tilly Masterson?
Jill seems to be a happy go lucky gal. She has a moral grey area as she participates in a cheating scheme merely for the money. Not caring about the temperature of the champagne we might also question her taste in the finer things. However she is a striking figure and seems to be a down to earth woman.
Tilly seems to be a more serious and thoughtful woman. She is plays it cool even when caught in a lie. Seemingly frosty to corny pick up lines, Tilly is a focused woman. She is not a very good shot, but is willing to take revenge for the death of her sister. I guess we can say that beneath the frosty facade lies a woman of passion.
