Charlotte Philby is known for her spy work. She has also has talked about James Bond publicly, and has connections to the Fleming family. I believe she deserves a chance at writing a Bond novel. She is more than qualified.

She would be better than Sebastian Faulks!

As long as it's modern day, I would like to have her write a Bond. I'm not sure what type of Bond story that she would possibly write. If the main characters are back, I'd be happy to read what she does.

Ann Fleming would be spinning in her grave at the thought of a "Philby Bond"!

Remember, the longer Ann Fleming lived the less Bond novels we would have gotten. She wasn't happy with Bond no matter what. Charlotte Philby is one of the few authors that I can give an honest endorsement of for a full Bond novel. A Bond novel is always a risky gamble. Like any other creative franchise.

Of course I can only fully agree. Please excuse my little joke there referencing Ann Fleming's "Philby Bond" review of Kingsley Amis's Colonel Sun! Just to clarify, I doubt that Ann Fleming has many critics harsher than I. I don't think I'd be overstating things to say that she was the Enemy of the Continuation. And, to someone like me, that is a heinous crime. Anyway, thanks for creating this thread and bringing this author to our attention. She certainly has an interesting and apt pedigree for a spy fiction author. Maybe some day there will be a "Philby Bond"...

Thank you for your joke reference. I’m just thankful that Fleming’s TRUE literary heirs have always done at least keeping Bond in a (generally) literary spotlight. While the continuation novels are a mixed bag, I’m happy to keep getting them, both adult Bond and spin-offs.

As for Charlotte Philby herself, like Christopher Nolan for cinematic Bond to others, (to a degree, myself included), she just feels right. She seems to be a Bond fan, having all the right connections. I would also say Charles Cumming, but he only wants to do a period piece Bond. There’s not much creative challenges when it’s done that way. I think Philby would work best on a modern Bond book. I do have some ideas on modern day Bond villain spin-offs, though. I just want Philby to have a chance, like certain other directors for the movies.

I got a copy of Charlotte Philby's Edith and Kim, which I'm still yet to read. I hope to get around to doing so sometime this autumn.

She talks about the book in episode 179 of the Spybrary podcast.

As referenced in the OP I'm intrigued by what Charlotte Philby's connections to the Fleming family are?
