Trevelyan prequel

Reading the Trevelyan Xenia thread got me thinking.
Would a Trevelyan prequel be interesting if they got the right actor? It could explore Trevelyan's career prior to his mission with Bond in Goldeneye.

I don't think that except for a few hardline GE fans anyone out there cares for a Trevelyan prequel. The same, by the way, goes for the childhood days of Red Grant and the tribulations of young Ernst Stavro Blofeld. I might be more interested in a coming-of-age story of Elektra King, Vesper Lynd or Christmas Jones...but no, not really.

I am a hardline GE fan and I couldn't care less. I don't need EU or fanfic films. I just want a good Bond film from time to time.
  • As long as we get a Bond film in the next 5 years I don’t care if it’s a prequel, requel or sequel

Ideas like this is what is causing Amazon and EON to bicker 😆.

However and I say this very lightly. I would be lying if something was ever originated based on the Lienz Cossack backstory in WW2 that I wouldn't be slightly intrigued.

It would feel a bit pointless. I'm not sure if Travelyan, great as he is, is popular or iconic enough to generate enough interest in such a show. Even if it could be drummed up, I know what eventually happens to him from GE, and so for me personally seeing a story build up to that wouldn't be very engaging.

If you're going to have a Bond spin off (which I wouldn't want personally), I'd say it shouldn't be a prequel, and ideally it'd be about a Bond ally or side character who can stand on their own within such a show and have individual adventures/character development. Something like a Valentine Zukovsky spin off if it'd come out after GE would be better for me personally, although I think the point of any spin off is to tie directly into the current era of the franchise (ie. The Penguin for Batman), and more importantly have a good story/creative reason to do so.

Yeah I don't think there would be enough interest in the character now for a spinoff (and it would have to be in visual media, TV or film, as IFP can't use the character), but I do think the idea of a fellow double 0 agent who is perhaps corrupt or an antihero would be perhaps the only way I'd be interested in a '00 agent who isn't Bond' spinoff, as it would take that character to interesting places that you couldn't with Bond. I guess 'GoldenEye Rogue Agent' sort of did that a little. I think if the Double Or Nothing series were something like that I might be more interested.

It'd be a hell of a plot twist if adapting GoldenEye Rouge Agent was the only instance of a successful Bond spin off.

I've actually brainstormed and written down some story ideas for an Alec Trevelyan origin story. It would be set in the present day, and have some modern war settings. It would be kind of a Harvey Dent into Two-Face story, but he would still be generally good when he is recruited by MI6. Considering I only have a few pages of notes and characters, I feel that Alec Trevelyan having a true origin story is either someone else's story to tell. Or not to be told at all (at least now). If I was to truly write a story on Alec's origin, it would only be a short story.

All kinds of cross-discussion going on.
