The following photos suggest a younger Watson (i.e. pre-moustache, pre-Holmes?). Note that he is using a walking stick in some photos and is accompanied by Stamford which led some to argue if they are not revisiting A Study in Scarlet as well.

So

how many other story references are going to be in this one special? I do hope they spend more time on some of these particular stories at some point, not just a passing nod - albeit admittedly very fun and appreciated - in this special.

I won't, I promise. If I can stay celibate with SPECTRE, I certainly can with Sherlock. At the end of the day, it'll only compound the pleasure I will have when I finally see it.

Absolutely fantastic. I love it, simple as that.

The performances, the location shooting (they truly look like they're in the middle of the South Downs) and the cinematography.

Ian will be an absolutely brilliant Holmes, portraying him as we've never seen him on the big screen before, aged and weary, but still pushing on. That barb at Watson was quite amusing, as well. ;)

Certainly. Now that I have read it, I agree with those specialists. Not a very good effort, but it is interesting to read a pastiche from Doyle's era...
