Can't even recall which I ranked more highly during my last Bondathon, but I'll go with TB.

Thunderball for me. It's flawed but it offers more in the way of colourful, fun escapism.

Well, bump. I'd like the series to get started again.

As much as I like Thunderball, it's flaws were greater than LTK's, IMO. And I do prefer early Connery over Dalton, but in the end, Thunderball's tedious islands and underwater sequences are no match for the sheer intensity of LTK's action sequences and the terrific acting of Robert Davi as Sanchez (far better than Adolfo Celi, though I still found Largo a more promising villain than several others in the franchise). The darkness and intensity of LTK just wins it for me. I always thought Thunderball was overrated and not deserving of the box office results, but I still understand why it was successful, of course, and in the end it's still a good film. I just would never place it in my top 10, while LTK rakes the bottom of the top 10.

I'd have to go for LTK, I think Dalton the perfect Bond, Thunderball has pacing issues - the oft mentioned underwater scenes, also that fact that during editing sequences were placed out of order making Bond's 'are you sleeping aboard tonight?' line odd as there now passes a whole day before he makes his nighttime assault on the Disco.

Sorry to the die hard Connery fans, but as much as I like TB, LTK really moved my furniture.
  • LTK, easily. I do like Skyfall but LTK is my favourite Bond film.

    Old, but ditto.

TB:- this film was the Star Wars of its day............Connery looked great in the film.........and the underwater battles must of looked fantastic on the big screen

Thunderball, I really love this movie, yes, it's flawed as some people mentioned before. But this film is SO MUCH fun! I love the scale, spectacle, the luxurious clothes, Connery's finest peformance of Bond and Fiona Volpe is just ... :\">

TB over LTK, although they are such different beasts it's hard to compare them.

    The reasons are simple:

TB has a snappy, well written script and Terence Young is, even when off form, the best director the series has had.

LTK on the other hand, has far too much sloppy dialogue and Glen's pedestrian direction is too much at times. Dalton's superb turn (one of the best performances by a Bond actor in the whole series) saves it, as does Davi.

    Thunderball

No doubt about it. I like LTK also, but there´s no true competition here.

For fans of Fawlty Towers, I've just realised both films have actors that were featured in the show. GG had James Cossins as the scientist who examines the bullet and TND has Geoffrey Palmer as the Admiral.

And another for you @BAIN123 - the guy in the white tux (Steve Plytas) next to Bond in the OHMSS casino scene plays Kurt (chef who gets drunk) in the 'Gourmet Night' episode :)

Thunderball............"Look up, Look down, Look out......here come's the Biggest Bond of all".......................and it was!

I love how so many Bond posters/advertisements had taglines about the movie being the "best" Bond up to then. The only one I can really believe was "It's the biggest, it's the best, it's Bond... and beyond!" from TSWLM.

    Damn, I can't believe I didn't know that.

I do know the General at the circus in OP was Mr Hamilton (the American tourist) in the Waldorf Salad episode.

Basically, my two favourite Bond films.

Thunderball is THE archetypical Bond film. It has it all: the DB5, the casino, the villain, SPECTRE, the jetpack, beautiful women, exotic imagery, the femme fatale, a confident Connery, etc.

Licence to Kill is THE perfect non traditional Bond film. Dalton's dark and emotional portrayal is one of the best acting performances in any Bond film. It's also one of the few films that can stand on its own.

It's a tough choice and I like them both equally, I'll just go for TB because it's THE blueprint Bond film.

Ditto. I also like how TB combines Terence Young's directorial style of the first 2 films with the larger-than-life, epic Panavision style that would later epitomize the Lewis Gilbert directed Bond films.

    Another vote for TB

LTK, and it's not a battle, it's a massacre. Dalton vs post FRWL Connery... I feel bad for Connery, but i'm still going with T-Dalts.

That's a good point. I've always liked the cinematography in the Gilbert films and TB does give that larger than life Lean'esque feeling as well, particularly in Nassau.

The cinematography in Thunderball is so earthy. Fits the film like a glove. I love it. On the other side of the cinematographical match-up is LTK which is a butt ugly made-for-TV-looking movie.

Obviously as anyone who knows me knows my pick: Thunderball, by a jet-packed mile.

I'll join you in giving @MajorDSmythe a round of applause for that. =D> :)

It's Licence To Kill for me as well, in an absolute landslide.

I just came up with TB-37, LTK-13. But that was quick and unofficial (not my thread), so don't hold me too it. I tried to spot double-voting ( @chrisisall ).
I voted a hundred times, but the mods must have deleted them!
