    Die Another Day.
AVTAK's got bad girls, old Moore and weak plot.

Now 19-4. Can the final Brosnan film make a comeback against the final Moore film?

    AVTAK

I've said it before and I'll say it again, DAD was good up until Iceland when things got crazy. AVTAK, Moore is too old but it's still a fun film with a great villian and a great theme song.

I've only watched both movies once and don't have a strong memory of either of them. Even though I wouldn't call either a favorite, I think I'll vote for DAD just because I remember not liking the underground sequences or May Day in AVTAK.

You're right @actonsteve BUT the redeeming feature of the second clip (IMO) is Arnold's music.

According to the directors commentary the idea came from Tamahori after he'd seen a chunk of glacier fall off. I suppose it wasn't a bad idea in principle but in practice :-&

Yeah its a good idea but I dont understand why nobody (Babs and MGW have to shoulder the responsibility here) put their foot down when the stunt team said it would be impossible to do for real. At that point it should just be binned. Maybe Tamahori is just an amazing salesman and somehow managed to convince everyone that the legacy that Cubby had built over decades should just be pissed all over for the sake of getting a bit of a crossover from the retarded XXX audience.

(Thats a vote for AVTAK by the way).

    Oh god, they're both terrible.

But I'd have to go for AVTAK. It's my third least favourite Bond movie, DAD is second, and DAF is the winner (or loser, rather).

I’ll support Brosnan here too. The only redeeming feature that AVTAK had was Christopher Walken, and even that is portrayal of Zorin was a farce, because I never took him seriously in the role. I kept expecting an SNL live audience to start laughing at his one-liners. AVTAK also had quite possibly the stupidest car-chase in the bond films where Roger finds himself driving just the front half of a front-wheel-drive French shitbox through Paris, making the worst use of an exotic location I think I’ve ever seen. Furthermore, AVTAK had without a doubt the UGLYEST Bond girl EVER in Grace Jones. I hesitate to even call her a Bond girl rather than a Bond man. That also has a large part to do with the decade, the 80’s, which was perhaps the tackiest period in western culture as somehow baggy windbreakers and huge cock-bottle glasses became sexy. Lastly, the hole plot of AVTAK is disjointed and broken up by that stupid fire scene in the middle, which seems like it belonged more in a Die Hard film, than a Bond film, which showed how desperate the franchise was to compete with other action franchises at the time.

Die another Day on the other hand is all about Bond. Sure, it’s riddled with nods to the past, but I think that’s what makes it so fun. We have Halley Berry pretending she’s Ursula Andress, John Cleese reminiscing over all the past bond gadgets, a satellite that’s straight out of Diamonds are Forever, a car chase to end all car chases, a villains layer that harkens back to Piz Gloria, and a villain who is like a cross between Blofeld and Kim Jong Il, only aged and strengthed to match Bond. Granted, it is WAY over the top, but at least it’s entertaining on a bunch of different levels. AVTAK isn’t entertaining at all…

Count me in for Die Another Day

I would have supported GE and TND over AVTAK for sure.

22-6, DAD's picking up some supporters, but it's still losing to AVTAK.

AVTAK despite being a lame, lazy, cheap, miscast, dull, lackluster, poorly executed attempt at a Bond film is still far, far superior to DAD.

Die Another Day without a doubt!

AVTAK, IMHO, is the second worst Bond film. When I do these votes I always pick the ones that I can watch over and over again. DAD is one that I can watch many more times over from AVTAK.

Good to see that DAD has its supporters! I honestly would rather watch DAD anyday of the week over GF and OHMSS, that's a fact, Jack. Die Another Day isn't really that bad, its only real problem was that it went overboard on cheesy dialogue and corny characters. Everything else is fine in my book. I actually have DAD around #17, so I really don't dislike it, in fact, I really enjoy it most of the times I watch it. Of course in this contest, DAD has to lose because I prefer AVTAK a lot Moore (haha, pardon the pun).

I must admit there are 2 moments in DAD I LOVE:

    -"Just surviving Mr Chang...just surviving"

-"It seems Mr Zao has lost himself in Havana...when you find him say goodbye from us"

    "with pleasure"

I'd add these to the list as well:

(click, click; P99 out of bullets)
Miranda Frost: "It was so good of you to bring your gun to bed with us."
Bond: "Yes...occupational hazard." (throws P99 aside)

General Moon: "Now for the last time, who was it!? Who made him betray his country and his name?"
Bond: "The same person who betrayed me."

Bond: (pointing to M) "And what do you think?"

Yep. Brosnan along with Pike and Dench were the best things in that film (and perhaps Kenneth Sang who plays General Moon).

Indeed, one of the best parts of the movie, even though it is saddening, was when Gustav Graves/Colonel Moon electrocuted and then shot Daddy Moon at point blank range. Gives me chills every time!

AVTAK, if not for John Barrys score alone. But View is the better film, even with the ageing cast.

Yeah I did. I picked View. It has its flaws but its better than DAD

Oh man, the battle of the bottom feeders. A View to a Kill for me, if only for the better villains.

    20. A View to a Kill (1985) - 5.5/10
    21. Die Another Day (2002) - 5/10

Good to see someone without DAD at the very bottom of their list. Just wondering, what's at number 22?

    Hear, hear!

Anyway, A View To A Kill for me, it has Walken and Barry going for it.

Thanks Agent, I think we'll call it now. (Sigh) I was hoping that this would be a little closer, but I guess not! Okay, here's the next line-up. Take your pick!

On Her Majesty's Secret Service vs. Casino Royale
  • Tough choice again. Both great debut movies and series classics. But I'll go with Casino Royale because I feel Craig is a better actor and better Bond.
