You know, in spite of the likes of us Bond fans on forums such as this forever praising Fleming, Broccoli and Saltzman, Young and Hunt and Campbell, Barry and Adam and, of course, each of the Bond actors themselves, there seems to be a critical legend of Bond lore that we all too happily gloss over. I'm talking of Richard Maibaum, of course, the guy who was responsible for the lion's share of Bond film scripting for nearly 30 of the series' 50 years. Ah, writers, eh? We're always overlooked. ;)

But today, at least, we collectively may have put that habit to one side - as, with a winning margin so large it's completely in keeping with his contribution to the 007 flicks, I can well and truly declare that the late, the great Dick Maibaum has resoundingly taken the gold in this contest - in fact, just like John Barry in his respective event in this tournament, he didn't even drop a vote.

And elsewhere, Maibaum's writing collaborator throughout the '80s, the cameo-lovin' Michael G Wilson takes the silver, while that master of witty dialogue and double entendre Tom Mankiewicz fills out the bronze berth. The non-medal placers are led by Christopher Wood (a slight surprise to me given he wrote MR - hey I love it, but know many don't; the fools :p ) in fourth, while the controversial-with-fans modern-era scribes that are Paul Haggis (fifth) and Bruce Fierstein (sixth) bookend with the, well, pretty darn unpopular Purvis and Wade (eighth and last) that giant of children's literature - and ironically surely the best writer on the list - Roald Dahl who rolls in at seventh.

Funny isn't it? I seem to recall someone a couple of weeks ago opining that it's ironic America were holding firm in second place in the Medal Table when they hadn't won either a gold or a silver medal. Well, that's all change now. Yup, thanks to their terrific showing in this week's event, they can now (after England, of course - who else?) claim to be the tournament's second nation to walk away from just one single event with a full set of gold, silver and bronze medals. And those three medals, as well as their sixth place, also means that suddenly they've almost halved - yes, halved - England's lead over them. A very good week at the office for the Yanks then.

And guess what? Yup, England too pick up more points at the very top thanks to their fourth and eighth placings this week, while Wales sure up their hold on fourth in the table with a couple of points gleaned from a seventh place in the contest. But what's this? Yup, the US hasn't entirely stolen the show - for a quartet of points from a fifth place finish sees Canada get the jump on the others in the trailing pack by leaping up to fifth in the table. Those Canucks, eh? You just can't keep 'em down. ;)

Event 9 coming up soon, chaps...!

Well even though I'm not a fan, Team Canada can use the points. After Eon legends, Harry Saltzman and Lois Maxwell, Haggis probably bats third for Canada. Then we trail off to small part actors such as Austin Willis, Cec Linder and Stana Katic. But there's also the Baffin island ski- jump. But somehow I don't think Linder would fare too well in the best Felix voting. Willis though, might hold his own in the best villain-pigeon category. Katic might score in the best one-line Bond-babe category too.

Right, after a week off and a wee rest, the tournament's well and truly back, back, back, peeps. And with what? This is what...

Oh, and just a reminder - when you do vote, please vote in this manner, chaps (as outlined in the thread's opening post); makes it a hell of a lot easier for me when I'm totting up the totals... ;)
