    <i>The competitors:</i>

22px-Flag_of_England.svg.png Charles Gray (Ernst Stavro Blofeld, DAF)
22px-Flag_of_the_United_States.svg.png Yaphett Kotto (Dr Kananga/ Mr Big, LALD)

So, the task is simple... please arrange the eight competitors above into your favoured ordering - first to last (greatest to least) in terms of their <i>contribution to the cinematic James Bond</i>.

Voting for this event should remain open for <i>about a week</i>, after which the results and the updated Medal Table will be posted in this thread (as well as in the thread's opening post).

Oh, and just a reminder - when you do vote, please vote in this manner, chaps (as outlined in the thread's opening post); makes it a hell of a lot easier for me when I'm totting up the totals... ;)

    1st place (<font color=DarkOrange>Gold</font>) = 10 points
    2nd place (<font color=Gray>Silver</font>) = 8 points
    3rd place (<font color=SaddleBrown>Bronze</font>) = 7 points
    4th place = 5 points
    5th place = 4 points

    7th place = 2 points
    8th place = 1 point

Over to you, folks - get voting...! :)

I'll have to go with Mr Big in Live and Let Die even though his Kananga revelation was a bit of a let down and far less intimidating

    #1 Mr Big/Kananga LALD 10 points
    #2 Scaramanga / GG 8 points
    #3 Hugo Drax / Moonraker 7 points
    #4 Stromberg / TSWLM 5 Points
    #5 Charles Gary Blofeld/ DAF 4 Points
    #6 Hai Fat / GG 3 Points
    #7 Sergei Barsov/ TSWLM 2 points
    #8 Jet Pilot / Moonraker 1 point

Far be it from me to criticise but how on earth is the MR pilot on this list? If he is worthy of inclusion, then where are Burt Saxby, Shady Tree, Morten Slumber, Mrs Whistler, Dr Tynan, the undertaker gang ('I didnt know there was a pool down there'), Dr Metz, the guy who says 'yours' and stabs Hamilton in new Orleans, the voodoo guy with the snake, (cant think of anyone TMWTGG, only really Scaramanga and Hai Fat), the Liparus captain, the bloke who works the cable car for Jaws, guy in the back of the amublance?

I've probably missed some but you get the general idea. I realise you have to pad some categories out but surely this has to be done fairly across the board. Or were there some sort of qualifying heats I missed? If so I apologise.

I was wondering that myself. Am kind of curious why Saxby, Wint, Kidd, Tee Hee, Baron Samedi, Whisper, Nick Nack, Jaws, Naomi and Chang weren't considered.

You're absolutely right, guys, I did have to pad this event out by including a bit of a random to bring its contenders up to the 'minimum' of eight, but why with none of those perfectly reasonable, potential contenders you mentioned? Well, take a look at the first post on the first page of this thread (where all the tournament's individual events are recorded - along with links to their results): there's a Henchmen/ women event still yet to be played, in which many of those you mentioned will no doubt appear. In which case, I included the jet pilot from MR in this event because he's not a definite henchman, or at least we don't know for whom he's working - apart from those already on the list, every one of other villainous characters from the '70s Bond films are, I believe.

Hope that clears it up... :)

I would hardly consider Morten Slumber or Shady Tree to be henchmen - or is the definition of henchmen anyone who works for the main villain? In which case I guess fair enough. Although you might as well list everyone Bond ever has a fight with as have the MR pilot.

And is he not working for Jaws or is he just MRs Sandor?

Oh well I guess youre entitled to make up the rules as its your game but if Jean Pierre comes home with a medal I will demand a urine test.

Yes, well, I don't think there's any point anyone getting their knickers in a twist over this. I included the jet pilot because, as said, really I just wanted to up the number of competitors from seven to eight, making the event neater and tidier than it otherwise would have been. Essentially, yes, I think it's only fair to say any villain who works for someone else in Bond is a 'henchman'; after all, you have to draw lines for such things when you're deciding on competitors for events in a tournament like this.

And, in any case, don't worry: all the major henchmen (and more)'ll have the chance to have their day in their own event later in the tournament - and I very much doubt the poor old lambasted Castaldi stands a chance of winning a medal here. ;)

Anyway, back to the voting now (hopefully)... :)

Jaws would be my #4 if he had been included.

Jürgens is a villain in the grand tradition and very menacing to all the characters. Even Jaws obeys him without question... Lee is almost a mirror image of Bond but on the other side of the fence...Kotto has San Monique and some very tough fellows in NYC licking his hand...Loo adds a great sense of humor to the role...Lonsdale about as exciting as watching paint dry...Gray not nearly as scary as Savalas and Pleasance, and laughable..last 2 too minor to consider higher.

Just seems a bit rum that Castaldi gets to compete in a field of 8 where the likes of Shady Tree will be in a field of about 50 and stand no chance. Like your typical Olympic committes and FIFA is St George open to corruption as well? Has Castaldi slipped him a brown paper bag in a motorways services? I think an independent investigation is needed.

OK enough - lets stop this now before it detracts from the main event. Lets just say Castaldi is the Bond Olympics Eddie the Eagle or Eric the Eel - something of a joke but give him credit for having the pluck to go out there and compete when he has no chance whatsover. A bit like Jack White and Alicia Keys in that sense.

    1. 22px-Flag_of_England.svg.png Christopher Lee = 194 points [10 points]
    2. 22px-Flag_of_the_United_States.svg.png Yaphet Kotto = 131 points [8 points]
    3. 22px-Flag_of_France.svg.png Michael Lonsdale = 130 points [7 points]
    4. 22px-Flag_of_Germany.svg.png Curt Jürgens = 105 points [5 points]
    5. 22px-Flag_of_England.svg.png Charles Gray = 101 points [4 points]
    6. 22px-Flag_of_England.svg.png Michael Billington = 57 points [3 points]
    7. 22px-Flag_of_the_People's_Republic_of_China.svg.png Richard Loo = 53 points [2 points]
    8. 22px-Flag_of_France.svg.png Jean-Pierre Castaldi = 43 points [1 point]

Hmmm, this may have been one of the most controversial events thus far, but its winner has to be anything but. Yup, he has a powerful weapon and he's certainly got it out and waggled it about all over the shop this week, as it were - good old Sir Chris Lee, or if you prefer, Franners The Scaramanga very predictably - and very easily - has taken the gold, peeps. The battle for the silver was, however, quite a different story, proving to be a right old hair-pulling, eye-gouging and groin-kneeing scrap. Or at least it would've been had its combatants actually fought themselves instead of relying on their minions to do so. But, in the end, it was the great Yaphet Kotto in the guise of Dr Kananga (or is it Mr Big?) who takes second place by one, single point over the legendary Michael Lonsdale as the money-bags maniac that is Hugo Drax, who has to put up with the bronze.

Elsewhere, the sea-loving Curt Jürgens (aka Strommers) saw off Charles Gray's (or Diamonds' Blowers) cross-dressing-packing claim for fourth, while Michael Billington's Soviet spy Sergei Barsov kung fu-kicked Richard Loo's Hai Fat into seventh and the seemingly reviled Jean-Pierre Castaldi (surprisingly?) posted a respectable score as he scooped the wooden spoon.

So, very much not for the first time England and the States gained the big points-scores, what with the former taking home the gold and the fifth and sixth places (and a total 17 points) and the latter claiming the silver (eight points), which healthily keeps the Medal Table ticking over for 'em both. And yet, neither of these nations was actually the big winner this week - for that honour actually goes to... France. Yup, thanks to Michael Lonsdale's bronze and - yes, like it or not :p - Jean-Pierre Castaldi's eighth place, those plucky frogs have now, er, leapfrogged Italy back into third place.

Elsewhere, it's very good news too for Germany, as its fourth-place finish in the contest sees it move up a place in the table to seventh, while it's great news for China as an on-the-surface meagre seventh place this week ensures the eastern giant finally makes its debut on the board. Time to break out the bubbly in Beijing then - if the little red book allows it, of course. ;)

Event 13 coming up soon, chaps...!

I must say, mine is pretty accurate! I just gotta switch Kotto and Lonsdale and it would be perfect!!!

So, the old adage'd suggest this week's contest'll be lucky for some and unlucky for others, but just which'll be which...? ;)
