Well, what a rogue's gallery this is - as some of you have pointed out, it's truly a classic line-up of villains. But there has to be a victor and by far, far more than a garotting wire, Robert Shaw's Red Grant from FRWL has knuckle-dusted his way to the gold - and, let's be honest, is a more than worthy winner. And the silver goes to, yes, the perennial runner-up in my Bond Villain tournaments from back in the day (I held it twice; he was runner-up twice), Joesph Wiseman's title character from DN, no less. And the bronze recipient? Yup, it's a charismatic appearance from the charmer of 007 villainy, Gert Fröbe's unforgettable Golders from GF.

Elsewhere, the be-patched Adolfo Celi's Largo from TB far from besmirches himself in fourth, while the contest's pair of Austrians, Lotte Lenya's über-evil lesbian Rosa Klebb from FRWL (fifth) and Ernest Pohlmann's über-evil mastermind Blofeld from FRWL and TB (eighth), bookend the '60's other two Blowers - Telly Savalas's effort from OHMSS (sixth) and Donald Pleasence's incarnation from YOLT (seventh).

Well, I speculated whether they'd do it - and then pretty much concluded it was inevitable they would - yep, in the same week the English haven't just crossed the 300 point-barrier, they've also claimed their tenth (that's their tenth) gold medal of the tournament. Think they now may just end up the most successful nation in this tournament come its end. You know, maybe just. :p

Mind you, it's been a good week for others too. That silver medal and its resultant eight points sees Canada move above Wales on the board into sixth, but no higher as the bronze going to Germany sees the latter safely remain fifth. And in the age-old scramble for third place it's Italy who have - perhaps critically (as there's now very few contests left to play) - who've done the business this week, as the five points they've picked up moves them back above the French.

But the real winner this week is Austria. Yes, that's right, Austria. A fifth and an eighth place this week gains them an oh-so precious five points and propels them 12 whole places up the table to joint 18th alongside The Bahamas, Greece and South Korea. They'll be whirling round and round as they waltz in Vienna tonight, all right!

And Event 25 coming right up... :)

Ha, yes. But if we're talking about the sheer quality of their work as directors, then while Spy is a cast-iron Bond classic, both YOLT and MR are definitely flawed films - although I love both of 'em. That can't really be said of any of the efforts of Hunt, Campbell and Young (mind you, I'll always maintain that TB is a flawed film even if many a Bond fan can't bring themselves to admit it).

Still, given this tournament is all about celebrating Bond alumni for their contributions to the series, then Gilbert surely certainly deserves his dues given how popular and successful with the public his 007 efforts were...

Ian Fleming have created the character, but without Terence Young the cinematic James Bond would surely never have been realised in the manner we know and love today, given it was he who made it his mission to mould Sean Connery in the role at the very beginning. For that The Youngster perhaps deserves always to reside atop the pantheon of 007 film directors - one thing for sure is he's definitely your gold medalist tonight, peeps. And taking the silver is the one-time at-base hitter who struck his effort right out of the ball-park, yup, OHMSS's Peter Hunt, while the most prolific (and most critically and publicly acclaimed) of recent Bond helmers, GE and CR's Martin Campbell takes the bronze.

Predictably enough, all but one of the remaining Medal Table-scoring places are taken by Englishmen, what with the '80s' Bond director John Glen (FYEO, OP, AVTAK, TLD and LTK), the man who introduced self-mockery to 007 Guy Hamilton (GF, DAF, LALD and TMWTGG), the master of the fantasy epic Lewis Gilbert (YOLT, TSWLM and MR) and TND's Roger Spottiswoode taking fourth, fifth, sixth and eighth respectively, while the latest filler of the director's chair Marc Forster (QOS) is in seventh place.

So, yes, they may have utterly - and inevitably - dominated proceedings in this contest, they may have secured six of the top eight places and clocked up a total 31 points for the Medal Table, but England's undeniable success isn't really the biggest story this week. That honour is shared by two other nations.

First of all, Switzerland who, despite my statements a couple of weeks ago that Sweden had almost certainly done the business and made eighth place in the table their own, have, well, definitely told me... yup, you should never speak too soon - at least not until the last cowbell has been rung. For Marc Forster's seventh place in this week's contest now defintely ensures the Swiss will take that pretty darn important eighth spot on the board (all will be revealed in around a week's time why it's so important), as the final two events of the tournament will include no competitors from any nations outside the top eight.

And, second... it's big congrats indeed to New Zealand, who become the newest - and final - addition to the Medal Table, Martin Campbell's bronze medal proving critical as it belatedly gets the Kiwis on the board. Hats off to him - he's ensured his nation's all (in the) black tonight, all right!
