Julia Roberts is that brilliant lass living next door, not a stunning beauty but when she smiles or laughs lously you just want to take her home and keep her. Imho

Well the thread is not about who should be in a Bond film... but about the chosen actor/actress in general... what's your favorite film that he/she played in ? what's her/his best performance ? what do you think about him/her?.....
Exactly. Thank you for clearing that up @DC007. Cheers.

I liked her in her tour de force where she won the oscar, Erin Brokovich. She's good in other things but I liked her more in this film. She's a good actress and deserves to outshine her brother Eric (who by the way was always jealous of her career).

Oh right, don't know why I thought this was a Bond girl thread. Hmm.. she's alright. I like her early stuff better. In her modern films I can see her acting, not her character. She kinda plays the same roles, too.

However, she's in that new 'Extremely Close but..." 9/11 story, so she'll probably be pretty good in that.
  • I remember some people had a bit of a crush on her during her Pretty Woman time or Flatliners, what I like about Roberts is that she doesn't feel she has an obligation to be the center of attention or have her face plastered all over the place unlike some other high profile names you could instantly name.

I'm not a fan of her's or her films even but have seen plenty of her work such as Sleeping with the Enemy and The Pelican Brief for example, Notting Hill was a bit of a letdown or maybe I just don't like Hugh Grant but wasn't too keen on that picture. She's a fine looking woman and talented actress but I remember her work of 20 years ago more so than of present times

She's very sweet and a fine actress, that's what counts. Being here on a Bond forum explains why it seems so hard to come up with a movie in which she was outstanding. May I venture to propose Pretty Woman? Think what you will, but that one made her famous and she deserved it. Other than that I enjoyed Notting Hill.

Yeah she is a great actress, one of the bests, i loved her performance on the unforgettable 'Pretty Woman'. But i was just saying, she's not sooo beautiful, at least for me.

Ok, I'll throw in my two cents. I love Julia, quite obviously, and she lights up the screen with her smile and laugh. Her best IMO would have to be Erin Brockovich. She was absolutely top notch in that film, and played a single mom who could handle men of any age or size. Her dialogue and how she acted it out was brilliant alongside the equally amazing Albert Finney, and a great story.

Here's some of the best scenes, showing Julia's huge talent:

And a hell of an ending:

These scenes are minor examples of just how talented Julia is in this film and all her work.

Alright, sorry for missing the mark folks. Our next actor is one I very much respect:

    Matt Damon

So, please share. What you think of him as an actor, a person, your favorite film of his, anything.

"How do you like them apples?"

I really love Matt Damon. Great in Bourne and Ocean's trilogy, loved his recent movie Contagion. His worse movie IMO was Green Zone.

My favorite movie with him is The Good Shepherd. Marvellous movie. Syriana was good too.

    Green Zone was alright..

A bit too heavy politically, Damon didn't add anything, and the story got a bit far-fetched, but I wouldn't say it was his worst.

    Oceans 13 is his worst.

Can't stand Damon. He's one of those actors that I will try and avoid anything he's in (after having seen a number of his films in the past).

I like a lot of his films. On the whole a good actor. Good Will Hunting and The Talented Mr. Ripley are two of his best.

Matt Damon be a none Bond actor i have the moost movies with. With buying 2 movies with him last year he stay now in draw with Lois Maxwell if you count the animated movie he did. 2 movies more then Pierce Brosnan and Michael G Wilson.

Stil there be atleast 3 movies i like to have and he playing a part it. The Adjustment Bureau, Happy Feet 2 (voice) and True Grit. Syriana & Good Will Hunting wil mabey also end in the location some day. I hope for the number 1 it going to take a whyle, because the only one who stay above him,is a not living actor and that is Desmond Llewelyn with 17 movies.

The funny thing is last year when all 14 Coen Brothers movies end in my collection, i am thinking why Matt Damon is missing from the Ocean's friend list missing in Coen Brother movie and then True Grit is made.

The Talented Mr. Ripley, The Bourne Identity and Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron be the best. Confessions of a Dangerous Mind he whas together with Brad Pitt because Clooney ask them and he only have cameo, the movie is very good too.

During the late 90s/early 00s, I thought of him as just another teen dream actor (the same with DiCaprio, but they have both done great things the last 7-8 years), without really seeing any films he'd done. Then came the Bourne films and the little cameo in EuroTrip, which changed my mind about him. He was perfect as Bourne, and he was great in The Good Shepherd.

Never managed to watch through Green Zone, but I have to give it another try one day.

As for me, Matt's most superb performance is in Good Will Hunting, one of my favorite films of all time, and supported by a stellar cast full of talent. Some great showmanship from Matt in here, and Robin Williams brings his A game. Both Matt and Robin each give their best acting performances in this film, and the scenes switch from a funny dynamic to very emotional. A brilliant film, truly a masterpiece.
    One of my favorite scenes:

    And the best scene:

I'm sorry for the large delay folks, I've been more sidetracked than usual as of late. I promise to stay on this weekly from this point onwards. The next long awaited actress is:

    Kate Winslet
    0301-kate-winslet-article-spread_aw.jpg

This lovely lass has a great body...of work and some great performances to choose from. Without further ado, have at it!
  • Isn't Winslet British?, she must be in her mid 30s by now. I haven't seen much of her work, obviously she must get most associated with Titanic, for anyone who's seen this film that just never seems to end, she appears with a young faced DiCaprio, and it's all a bit unsavory as Winslet looks old enough to plausibly be DiCaprios mother in that release. Not really a fan of her work, but she appears to be a talented actress

I do believe they are on good terms with each other, and Mendes recently directed her anyway, so I hope that if he continues directing Bond that I'll finally get my dream of Kate Winslet as a Bond girl. She'd be exceptional!
