Apologies, @WillyGalore, I've edited my post. I must've misread it.

I was almost excited at first to think we'd get a new one in just over 6 months. ;-)

We certainly are being kept waiting for these new episodes though.

@WillyGalore, we most certainly are, I just hope this time around, it returns to the formula of the first two seasons. My interest severely dropped in Season 3.

So four episodes could be on the way. :D Really, that is good news. Two years as per normal again, so nothing unusual there.

Such a long wait, but at least we have confirmation that it's on the way! I can't wait to see how season four turns out.

All very good news! If the special is a sizable one, maybe twenty minutes or a tad more in duration, that'd be a great tease for the next series come December 2015. I also love that the series is apparently going deeper and darker than ever before, because I think that's where the roots of the show are. I very much look forward to what Moffat, Gatiss and co. have in store to make us gasp, cry and throw things at our screens.

I was discussing this with my friend lately and one of the things I'm most excited for is seeing how a baby will affect the lives of Sherlock and John. BBC Sherlock is making Watson a dad, something that has never been done before in any Holmes adaption I know of, so to see his reaction to such a life change and how they play with it in series 4 will be thrilling. I can almost picture John handing Sherlock the baby, and at first he's very off-put and uncomfortable, but eventually grows more humanity from the child. And of course our hearts will likely get ripped out as the lives of Mary and her child are on the line later in the series. I don't know if they'd kill off Mary so soon, but she does die in the canon, so I wouldn't be shocked. I also worry about Molly's fate, someone who really "gets" Sherlock. I'd be cut if either was killed off, frankly.

I wonder if the Christmas special will focus on you-know-who given the way the third season ended. That'd be interesting to see, and it would certainly give me the proper anticipation for season four.

The special will be ninety minutes as per usual. In effect, there are four episodes for series 4 - a record-breaking run!

Yeah! I thought it would be another short Xmas teaser.
Are you sure it is longer?? The "special" I mean.

The special on Christmas Day you would assume, followed by the series from New Year's Day? That's my guess.

It's a Christmas Special, likely set at Christmas, not a minisode.

Four episodes this time, not three! :D

Damn, well isn't that something? I surely did not expect that! Looking forward to a four-episode run. :-)

And Mary should be expecting her child around the December/January time, so I think the show will reveal the newest little member to the Holmes/Watson family in the Christmas special, likely through an emotional and joyous trip to the hospital for the baby's delivery after Mary's water breaks. Add to that how warm and fuzzy that time of year is, and it's a perfect tonal fit to have a new life being brought into the world on the show.

Moffat and Gatiss are masters of torture ! But I'm ready to wait that long to get a season of the same quality than the first three. Meanwhile, I'll have to do with "Elementary". I may be in the minority here by saying I like it. But one thing I'm sure we all agree on : that's simply not the same thing.

Wow, in all the Emmy stuff I looked up Sherlock wasn't mentioned once, and believe me when I say I searched for it. This is great news! So many great talents up for nominations this year, I feel bad for those that have to pick winners.

A very Happy Birthday to Ben, one of our finest actors working today. I hope we see him and Martin as Holmes and Watson for many, many years to come, well into the bee-keeping years.

And Sherlock just picked up 4 Emmy awards! For the earlier categories. The major acting and show awards will be during the live telecast Emmy program on Aug. 25th.
But it did just win four awards for His Last Vow:

As the BBC article states: "... His Last Vow, the final episode of Sherlock's third series, which won awards for cinematography, music, single-camera picture editing and sound editing." Yay! Congrats to all involved with this stellar program.

David Arnold now has an Emmy for this episode! =D>

Like your death frisbee, Brady. It's rather scary and funny. :)

Today's news is about the EMMYS!

YES - Benedict and Martin have both won their categories, as lead and supporting actor in a miniseries or movie. And Moffat has won for writing.
    All for "His Law Vow."
Yay! So well deserved by all three! =D>

Officially released by BBC outtake/blooper for Series 3. Found on Twitter via Sherlockology.
Only 48 seconds, but fun. :)

And a new DVD release announced, with extras; this is quoted from Sherlockology:

BBC Worldwide have announced a new release of the third series of Sherlock, featuring brand new special features and the home video debut of the minisode 'Many Happy Returns.'
Sherlock Series Three: Special Edition will be released in the UK on November 3 2014 and can be pre-ordered from BBC Shop on DVD for £13.99 and Blu Ray for £17.49.
    Extras include:
    - Never-seen-before outtakes from series two and three - watch the first ever released blooper from Sherlock above!

    - An exclusive deleted scene from series three

    - Brand new audio commentary with Una Stubbs, Steven Moffat, Sue Vertue and Mark Gatiss on S3E1: The Empty Hearse

    - 3 x 45 minute documentaries, as seen on PBS in the USA, that include behind the-scene footage

    - 1x60 Unlocking Sherlock documentary

    - Sherlock - 'Many Happy Returns': the seven minute mini-episode previously only available online

    *******
Also new goodies include this amazing looking set, which includes busts of Watson and Holmes! Now that's really fun, in my opinion. I can just picture these in my library! (Again quoting from Sherlockology's site):

In addition, BBC Worldwide has announced a 14 disc limited edition boxset available in the UK and USA of all three series of Sherlock that contains both Blu Ray and DVD, including all the above new bonus materials, packaged alongside premium collectibles - a pair of busts of Sherlock Holmes and John Watson, and art prints of the pair.

The US set (DVD region 1 and Blu Ray region A) is available for pre-order now from BBC Shop USA for $179.98 and is released on November 4 2014.

/\ that set looks brilliant! Also really liking those two busts of Holmes and Watson! :-bd
  • Robert Downey Jr said on Reddit yesterday that they were making Sherlock Holmes 3 :) I thought the first two were brilliant (honestly I think I might prefer them to the show) so I can't wait for the next one.

As both Sherlocks are so different and fun I am looking forward to the third installment even if the TV series will be sooner upon our screens.
