Here's Benedict's amusing opinion of the statue:
"What a weird and wonderful compliment to be included in the ranks of those already committed to wax. I've been accused of being wooden in my work but never waxy."
I think congratulations are in order to the (hopefully) happy couple! /:)
I suspect this is all just a cunning ploy by Benedict to get at a ruthless paper magnate who has ruined the lives of many past thespians with his "dirt" on them, and who just so happens to have this Miss Sophie Hunter as his personal assistant. How inspired. ;)

All I can say is that Benedict Cumberbatch seems to be channeling the late great Jeremy Brett. Which is a very good thing.
I wonder if we're getting a one-off BBC Sherlock set in the Victorian era with Ben and Martin playing the canon Holmes and Watson? If so, I've been dreaming about that forever, and would love to see how it'd play out, especially if they're adapting the Blue Carbuncle. Or maybe they're just dressing up for a period set murder mystery at some rich guy's manor. Who knows!
However, I was hoping that Gatiss, Moffat and co. would use the Christmas special to continue the story that was left off in His Last Vow, so I don't know if a period piece Holmes adaptation is the right way to go at this moment. I always figured we'd pick up where we left off for the Christmas episode and somewhere along the way Mary's water would break and she and John would rush to the hospital with Sherlock for the baby to be delivered.
Anybody else have thoughts on this?
Also, Gatiss has been pushing the whole tragedy theme lately for series 4, which makes me very confident that a major character will be axed. My bet is still on Molly. It'd shake Sherlock up big time, especially if she sacrifices herself to save him in some way.
The boys are looking excellent!!! Roll on Christmas!!! \m/
You will have to, another thirteen months. ;)

More indication this is going to be a period episode?
Great call! Could well be?
They'll want the Christmas special to be a stand alone episode. Something light and Christmassy and self contained (like the Doctor Who specials normally are, with the exceptions of the ones where he's died), because that's what Christmas specials normally are. They don't really advance a series, they're one off Christmas stories. I don't see why Sherlock would be any different, especially since Moffat also makes Doctor Who and the Christmas specials for that usually follow those rules (one off self contained xmas stories that don't affect the main series).
But there's a problem. The whole Moriarty thing they set up at the end of the last one. They can't just ignore that for an episode then return to it when the series starts. But they won't want to include all of that in the Christmas special either for the reasons I mentioned above.
So they do a one off period piece episode. That way they can make a nice stand alone Christmas episode whilst not just brushing off the story they started in the last episode.
That's my theory anyway.
Moreover, this is what was tweeted along with the photo by Gatiss
"It was a bitter night, so we drew on our ulsters and wrapped cravats about our throats..."c/o ace "
and Mackinnon
"The stars were shining coldly in a cloudless sky."
Can anyone spot the story these belongs to? Not difficult at all :D
