Varg Vikernes stands accused of spreading racist remarks when his trial comes up in Paris , June 3rd.

    FACTS : Varg Vikernes

    Born : Bergen , Norway on 2/11/73

1994 : Sentenced to 21 yrs in prison for the murder of Oystein Aarseth as well as 3 church arsons including the arson at Holmenkollen Chapel , Oslo.

2003: Did not show up after a leave of absence from Berg prison

2004: Sentenced to 14 months in prison for having hijacked a car while fleeing in 2003.

    2009: released after 16 yrs

2010: Moved to France with his wife and children

2013 : Arrested by the French police for suspected terror plots but released after 3 days when the charges were dismissed

Met in court on Oct 17th , 2013 on charges of public incitement to hatred and defending Nazi war crimes. The case was postponed to the June 3rd , 2014.

French authorities accused Vikernes of planning a terrorist attack.

The charges were dropped and now Vikernes believes that it is the French government that terrorizes him.

On his blog thuleanperspective.com he writes that "they frighten people into silence by terrorizing me and my family"

It was in July last yr that Vikernes was arrested during a dramatic police raid on his home in Corrèze , France.

-Vikernes was "able to prepare a major terrorist act" , said former Interior Minister Manuel Valls who has now moved up to become France's pm.

In a statement from the French Ministry of the Interior stated that "this person , a previously convicted murderer from Norway and closely connected to the neo-Nazi movement constitutes a potential threat to society which he has shown thru his statements on the Internet.

    "Massacre"

The reason for the action was that Vikernes' wife had acquired some hunting rifles.

Le Monde quoted France 3 that the police suspected him of planning a massacre.

It was claimed by the French authorities that Vikernes had a connection to Anders Behring Breivik because he might have received the so-called manifesto of the Norwegian terrorist. In an interview with the French tv channel BFM TV Vikernes claims he never received the manifesto.

Vikernes was released after 3 days in custody , where he sat in a long interrogation at the police station in Brive -la - Gaillard.

The accusations of terrorist planning was waived.

"He has been questioned for 3 days and the aim was to find out whether he had any terrorist plans.

At the end of the investigation it became clear that he had no plans of terrorism , nevertheless he writes widely on the internet and he will likely be charged with racial hatred" , said judge/spokeswoman for the prosecutors , Agnès Thibault - Lecuivre.

France then tried to deport Vikernes. The matter came up for a French law that in its ruling gave full support to Vikernes and determined that there were no grounds to deport him from the country.

Vikernes , however , was prosecuted under the criminal provisions of hatred.

The maximum penalty is imprisonment for 2 yrs.

He is also charged with defending genocide.

This is the most serious charges and can provide up to 5 yrs in prison and fines of up to 360k dollars.

Vikernes met in court on Oct 17th last year , in Paris.

His attorney Julien Freyssinet asked , however , that the case must be postponed because he had received over 900 documents in the case.

This was upheld and the case was postponed to June 3rd.

Approx 50 supporters of Vikernes were present outside the courtroom in Paris.

On his blog "Thulean Perspective" , Vikernes writes about what he characterizes as a "process" that started with the police shooting at his door door early in the morning.

Both Vikernes himself and his pregnant wife were arrested while their children (ages 2 , 3 & 5) were left in care of his in-laws.

His wife is not charged with any criminal offense.

Vikernes has previously written on his blog that his children were terrified by the experience.

According to him his youngest son was placed in her grandmothers arms.

"He was very frightened , it was obvious that the police's action was a little too dramatic for a 3.5 yr old boy"

His pregnant wife was placed in front of the kids on a chair with handcuffs while her nose was bleeding.

    -Many arrested

Vikernes writes that it was proved that the allegations that formed the basis for his arrest were ridiculous.

He has published images purporting to show bullet holes in the door and a broken window.

Newspaper "VG" has previously talked to the mayor of his French town where Vikernes resides , he confirmed that the police had shot thru the door.

Vikernes characterized the whole thing as fiction.

Vikernes writes : "I risk up to 5 yrs in prison because of things I allegedly published here on Thulean Perspective....yes , up to 5 yrs in French prison for writing an english blog which lies on a server in the US"

Although accusations of terrorist plots were dropped , the damage had already been done according to Vikernes.

The reason is that people now associate him with terrorism.

Later he found out that he's not even allowed to be a bank client.

According to Europol's annual terrorism report France is arresting most people due to allegations.

French authorities justified the arrest of Vikernes because they would not take any chances.

This is an extremely interesting article written by James Martin, who had a relationship with Barbara Broccoli:

This is more surprising than Timothy Dalton and Whoopi Goldberg!

I especially like the part about the Casino Royale script...

'30 Rock' actor Tracy Jordan has been critically injured in a six-car pileup. I really hope he makes it out okay. He's very wacky and out there, but I loved him on the show.

Yes I read that earlier when I woke from my nap. 1 person killed and 3 in a critical condition. Morgan is in intensive care. Let's hope they all pull through.

Sounds very interesting, coggins. I'll have to look that out. Sir Ken is a German Jew who came to Britain to fight the Nazi tyranny using the RAF.

I salute all those brave men and women who fought them on the beaches to make Europe free 70 years ago.

I love the history of WWII, it just covers so many entertaining and yet sad aspects of the early-to-mid 20th Century. I try to dive into anything WWII-related that I can find. Any good documentaries you all would recommend? I hear 'WWII in HD' is good, and there's another really long one that's called 'The World At War,' I believe.

@Creasy47 The World At War is an absolute stunning documentary. Narrated by Sir Lawrence Olivier. I thoroughly recommend it.

What timing is this? I KNEW I had heard Olivier's name elsewhere lately. I re-watched 'Marathon Man' last night (by the way, if you've seen it, tell me Roy Scheider's scenes and storyline don't remind you of a Connery Bond film) and was reading up on Olivier's role in the film, and for the life of me, I couldn't find any other projects I've seen or read up on lately where his name stood out, and sure enough, it was 'The World At War' documentary because I've been eyeballing it lately. I watched bits and pieces of it on YT, and it seems fantastic. I really want to see it soon.

I've got a few movies to trudge through in my collection as I try to figure out what I want to keep and what I want to get rid of, and I think once I'm done with those, I'll either get to that documentary, or I'll watch 'Band of Brothers' and 'The Pacific' back-to-back.

I love Marathon Man. Watched it about six months ago. And as chance has it, I'm at the dentist on Wednesday. He dare not ask me if it's safe! ;-)

Two recommendations from intelligent people, it looks like I'll be getting to this documentary sooner than I expected!

@WillyGalore, I was checking out the 'Marathon Man' forums and someone said they watched the movie, went to the dentist's office a few days later, and the dentist jokingly asked that question. I'd be out of that office in the blink of an eye. ;-)

You ain't kidding. I've had a phobia of dentists since I was 6. If he ever said that to me, I'd be out of there in a flash, never to be seen again!

Yeah, if I heard that, I'd never visit a dentist's office again. It's not worth it whatsoever, especially if he looks like Szell.

Incidentally, I was born in the fateful year 1984. :)
