They just mentioned on the bbc1 programme The One Show, ( talking about
the opening ceremony of the olympics ) That apparently Dame Judi will be
    involved !

Yup. She's working in the burger van.

You know what? It's a stretch, but I could imagine it happening.

Dame Judi was at the Rio opening ceremony to recite a poem centred around climate change. I'm surprised the poem wasn't Tennyson's Ulysses.

Anyone else think the opening ceremony was a bit sh*te?

Knew it wasn't going to live it up to London, but geez that was underwhelming.

I think it was fairly well done, but London was hard to top.

I got half way through the ceremony and switched it off, did not grab me though most sporting opening ceremonies of late not been great. Think it's better when the ceremonies are short, 5 - 10 minutes would suit me.

Thankfully, I'll never have to try drugs now that I sat through last night's Opening Ceremony.

I hope our athletes do really well and I wish them luck, I also hope bolt gets gold. Other than that I'll not be watching, I also can't help thinking all the money spent on this and the football world cup could have helped so so many of the struggling Brazilians.

These huge sports events are just meant as distractions.

The commentator mentioning the fatal crash of Ayrton Senna, when the San Marino delegation appeared, was one of the most awkward moments I can remember in such ceremonies.

The woman who won the first medal of the games has a very Bondesque name: Ginny Thrasher.

Agreed - a great name! I may pinch it for a future book.

I did think it funny at the opening ceremony, they showed the start of life, viruses etc.
I jokingly asked my wife were they acknowledging the Zika virus ? ;)
Ginny Thrasher, as a name is up there with the German skier Fanny Chmelar. :D

Hey guys, I'm currently fundraising for my latest short film. It's a sequel to a short film I made a few years ago called "Any Last Words", which did reasonably well. Off a budget of less than €650, it went to the Cannes Short Film Corner along with a number of other film festivals in Europe and the USA and earned myself a Rising Star nomination at the Underground Cinema awards (which is Ireland's only dedicated independent cinema awards).

I wrote a sequel off the back of that success, and I've also written a third film. The plan is to release each one individually and let them have a life on the circuit; then later on they will be edited together to make a full length feature film.

I have been applying for funding grants left right and centre but such is the backwards nature and attitude towards the arts in Ireland, I have been left with no choice but to raise the funds myself.

I value the opinion of everyone on these boards so I'd love to hear your feedback. We have an Indiegogo campaign set up that features our promo trailer which we shot last month.

Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to check it out.

I've been watching all sorts of 9/11 features in remembrance of the thousands that died that day. The first, United 93 (one of my favorites from Greengrass) and History Channel's 102 Minutes That Changed America, a great doc showing the event's effect on different eyewitness and packs some astonishing footage. Was anybody able to catch it?

Maybe I'll check it out. I know in '79 and '80, I quite enjoyed his follow-up album Night Owl, though it wasn't as successful as City to City. I should also play "Stuck in the Middle with You" for fun.

    Christ.

I'm no expert but from the description of the devices they sound rather crude, suggesting perhaps homegrown terrorism rather than the Islamic variety.

I haven't heard anything for a while, but I recall an interview with Corey Feldman claiming that a huge "Hollywood mogul" had raped Haim when they did a film together at some point in the 80s. Quite interesting (and troubling).

I know. I'm pretty sad about all of it. I do hope the truth comes out though, as soon as possible.
