Pierce Brosnan's Fisticuffs

Which Bond film do you think Pierce stood out in the fisticuffs department ?

I think it's GE,the fight with 006 of course.
Honourable mention to the printing press fight with Carver's guards in TND.

What do you think overall of Pierce Brosnan's punching power ?

Pierce had more power than Roger did... but was not as powerful as George, Tim, Sean or Daniel..

his best fight (and arguably one of the best fist fights in the entire franchise) was against 006 above the Satellite in Goldeneye... it was so personal, you could just feel the bitterness and hate in each punch and strike..

The best Brosnan fight, IMO, has to be the backroom at Carvers party. That goon catches Bond off guard witht the baseball bat to the back, which they wont get that chance again. Bond gets the drop on them and dishes out a 5 course meal of pain.

Campbell really got the physicality he was after there. A great fight that should have been the tone for them in all of Brosnan's films.

@samuel.. i feel the same way... alas - after Goldeneye, Brosnan got the Moore treatment..

I really do think that, whilst he wasn't as "tough" as Craig, Connery and Laz, Broz certainly had one over Moore in the physicality department. Take the fencing scene in DAD for instance (one of the best bits of the film). I can't imagine Moore doing something like that.

With the promise Brosnan showed it's annoying EON completely wasted it.

While I agree the 006 v/s 007 fight is the grittiest of the Brosnan era, I have never been as fond of it as many people are. Mainly because most of the brutality comes from 006, not James Bond. Bond only gets off 1 punch in the fight and a few kicks to 006's face. I wanted to see Bond be able to kick a little ass. Also, right at the start of the fight when 006 comes out of the rafters and kicks 007, Bond's fall looks a bit fake to me.

Brosnan throws a very good punch. his moves in GE and DAD are very good.

006 vs 007 of course... The last fight in the franchise to not be plagued by 1) abysmal editing and 2) Arnold music.
  • The 2 standout ones for me are the fight with Alec in GE and the fight at Carvers party in TND. Brosnan was more than efficient in the fisticuffs dept.

Just watched GE again last night, and I don't think I could pick any fight for this other than 007 vs. 006. Friend-turned-foe, it's brutal, transcends an entire cane, and they have a tiny emotional moment before Bond drops him. Just having worked all those years together, "sharing everything together", and then fighting to the death is such a change. I also love how, after Bond drops him over the railing and gives chase, the fist-fight between them is nothing but groans and punches landing. No music, no other noises, nothing.

I also love when Brosnan throws the metal chain at Alec's face. I think it's Brosnan.

Yeah, that's great. Or when Alec is throwing blows at him, and Brosnan blocks them all, then grabs his arm, bends it, and smashes him into the wall.

or when Brosnan hits the ladder thing and Alec takes a shot at him. so many iconic moments.

Yeah, the entirety of that scene is excellent. I also love when Alec is taking shots at him and he just dives down the entire stairwell. Looks so painful how his ankle just clips off of the railing.

    006 vs 007, the best.

Well, of course 006 vs. 007 will get a mention from me!
Some other worthy fisticuffs are the fight with Carver's thugs in the soundproof room, the fight with the security guards in Carver's printing press, the fight with Stamper, and of course, the fight with Renard! Haha. :-j Just kidding! That last one was a joke.

Even though the fight with 006 was his best, I'd give my vote to TND, only because he had more fights to prove himself in that one. GE didn't have really any fist fights until the ending with 006, whereas TND had several fist fights throughout.
  • 006 vs 007 is one of the great fights of the series. One of Campbells (many) strengths is that a fight isn't just a fight - as people said above the GE fight was personal and bitter (and the Madagascar chase in CR showed Bond's tenacity, resourcefulness, and ego).
  • Overall he's not a patch on other Bond's in the hand to hand fighting department but both his 006 vs 007 fight in GE and the fight in TND with the security guards both stand out for me.

That's what I love when Campbell takes over with a Bond film: he is good at showing that grittiness. I don't feel like I'm watching a scripted fight, I feel like I'm watching a dark, brutal fight between two men, and neither of them will be left unscathed. That's what makes the fight between 006 and 007 so brilliant: when they are finished and Alec has Bond in his sights and Bond is holding on to the rung of the ladder, they are bleeding at the nose and head, they're dirty, sweaty, tired. I really feel like I just watched a fight.

I've come to really appreciate the PTS of TWINE when Bond takes out Lachaise's men in the Spain bank. Such class and style in the way he dukes 'em out, certainly a favorite of mine!

I agree with the 007/006 fight from GE, but this deserves a mention too. I love the look Brosnan gives the camera too. Wish they gave him more of those.

The PTS of TWINE is quite nicely done. Good use of a Euro location as well.

Yes, that Brosnan look at the camera is pure gold! I love the part where, after exploding the glasses, he gets out of the chair, knees the thug in the chest, bends him over, and uses his gun to shoot the thug on the opposite side of the desk. "Superb, Mr. Bond, superb!"

Yeah, the entire PTS of TWINE is excellent. From the bank scene to the boat chase finale, it's real enjoyment. Did anyone else enjoy the lengthiness of TWINE's PTS? I quite like getting the theme song twenty minutes in or so. CR and QoS had extremely quick PTS's.

Oh yes, I'm with you there Crease! TWINE's PTS was just the right length to where we enjoy it thoroughly and we also start the bulk of the mission right on time. I hope that SkyFall will use this as a guide for their PTS.

It's the longest of the franchise without question, the Bilbao scenes in Spain were very brief though, we never saw anything of the actual city apart from a brief look at the Guggenheim museum, what a waste of a good location :-<

The Thames boat chase is very good, only let down by the final ending at the Millenium Dome Greenwich. Classic example of a white elephant there by the way. I like my Bond teasers long and exciting, that year was no exception. Casino Royale is just a joke with regards to that, gun barrel in the wrong place too, just to add insult to injury but there you are, redeemed itself with a very good Bond outing in 2006 though

@Baltimore_007: Yeah I know what you mean, the ending of the PTS was somewhat of a let-down, what with the Cigar Girl blowing herself up. I would have liked Bond to catch up to her and shoot her after she tries to kill him, or something like that.

I don't have a problem with the hot air balloon meeting a demise and Cigar Girl with it, it's merely Brosnan rolling down the roof to silly sound effects, spoilt an almost perfect Pre Credits Sequence that year

Yeah, him rolling down the roof to those sound effects is quite cheesy, and I wish they had totally cut that out. Maybe he hits the roof and catches that rope a lot sooner, to no sound effects.
