  • Very good! The cream is Rum Chata

    p-19555-RUMCHATA.png

The instructions said it should be in a shot glass, and I should have listened; I used too much of my brand new grenadine, lol
  • That sounds like one flavorful drink! Though I can see why they'd recommend it in shot form.

A mixer like Krest Ginger Ale needs a good match.

Campari and Ale recipe (the "Crimson Gradient")
    3 oz Campari® bitters
    6 oz Krest® ginger ale
Add ice cubes to a 12 oz highball glass. Slowly add Campari bitters to one-quarter full. Add ginger ale to three-quarters full, pour on the side to not disturb the bottom. Described as "alluring tang and indescribable sweetness".

Franchise fans celebrate Bond's strongest Canadian connection
    newswire.ca/news-releases/james-bondrs-original-drink-of-choice-hint-not-a-martini-536822041.html

TORONTO, Nov. 13 /CNW/ - As the cinema doors get set to open on the next
installment of the famed James Bond movie series, Quantum of Solace,
Canadian fans of the franchise can take more than just solace in a little bit
of trivia surrounding 007's original cocktail of choice.

While most Bond fans might think the famous spy's preferred cocktail was
always a vodka martini-shaken, not stirred--it was in the 1958 novel Dr. No
that Agent 007 poured himself a tall, ice-filled glass of Canadian Club
    whisky and soda
. In the scene, the international action hero takes brief
repose in a garden, as he relaxes with his CC & Soda. Dr. No went on to become
Bond's cinematic debut in 1963, starring Sean Connery.

"We're very proud that Canadian Club whisky was one of the drinks chosen
by the world's most famous spy," says Franco Timpano, senior brand manager at
Maxxium Canada, which markets and distributes the iconic whisky. "After 150
years, Canadian Club continues to honour its past as a celebrated whisky. With
fans like James Bond and Al Capone, Canadian Club has a rich history of
celebrating everything that's masculine, sophisticated and timeless--like Bond
    himself.
    "

    Dr. No, Ian Fleming, 1958.
    Chapter VII - Night Passage

The sun blazed beautifully into its grave.

Bond went into his bedroom and took out his two guns and looked at them. Neither was a part of him as the Beretta had been-an extension of his right hand-but he already knew them as better weapons. Which should he take? Bond picked up each in turn, hefting them in his hand. It had to be the heavier Smith & Wesson. There would be no close shooting, if there was any shooting, on Crab Key. Heavy, long-range stuff-if anything. The brutal, stumpy revolver had an extra twenty-five yards over the Walther. Bond fitted the holster into the waistband of his jeans and clipped in the gun. He put twenty spare rounds in his pocket. Was it over-insurance to take all this metal on what might only be a tropical picnic?

Bond went to the icebox and took a pint of Canadian Club Blended Rye and some ice and soda-water and went and sat in the garden and watched the last light flame and die.

The shadows crept from behind the house and marched across the lawn and enveloped him. The Undertaker's Wind that blows at night from the centre of the island, clattered softly in the tops of the palm trees. The frogs began to tinkle among the shrubs. The fireflies, the 'blink-a-blinks', as Quarrel called them, came out and began flashing their sexual morse. For a moment the melancholy of the tropical dusk caught at Bond's heart. He picked up the bottle and looked at~it. He had drunk a quarter of it. He poured another big slug into his glass and added some ice. What was he drinking for? Because of the thirty miles of black sea he had to cross tonight? Because he was going into the unknown? Because of Doctor No?

Quarrel came up from the beach. "Time, cap'n."

    Americano.
    - Campari
    - Sweet Vermouth
    - Soda water

Equal volumes Campari-Vermouth on ice, pour the soda on top.
    Casino Royale, Ian Fleming, 1953.
Chapter 5 - The Girl From Headquarters

    ...
The room was sumptuous with those over masculine trappings which, together with briar pipes and wire haired terriers, spell luxury in France. Everything was brass-studded leather and polished mahogany. The curtains and carpets were in royal blue. The waiters wore striped waistcoats and green baize aprons.
Bond ordered an Americano and examined the sprinkling of over dressed customers, mostly from Paris he guessed, who sat talking with focus and vivacity, creating that theatrically clubbable atmosphere of l'heure de l'apéritif.

The men were drinking inexhaustible quarter bottles of champagne, the women dry martinis.

'Moi, j'adore le "Dry",' a bright faced girl at the next table said to her companion, too neat in his unseasonable tweeds, who gazed at her with moist brown eyes over the top of an expensive shooting stick from Hermes, 'fait avec du Gordon's, bien entendu.'

'D'accord, Daisy. Mais tu sais, un zeste de citron . . .'

Bond's eye was caught by the tall figure of Mathis on the pavement outside, his face turned in animation to a darkhaired girl in grey. His arm was linked in hers, high up above the elbow, and yet there was a lack of intimacy in their appearance, an ironical chill in the girl's profile, which made them seem two separate people rather than a couple. Bond waited for them to come through the street door into the bar, but for appearances' sake continued to stare out of the window at the passers by.

'But surely it is Monsieur Bond?' Mathis's voice behind him was full of surprised delight. Bond, appropriately flustered, rose to his feet. 'Can it be that you are alone? Are you awaiting someone? May I present my colleague, Mademoiselle Lynd? My dear, this is the gentleman from Jamaica with whom I had the pleasure of doing business this morning.'
For Your Eyes Only, Ian Fleming, 1960.
"From a View to a Kill"

James Bond had his first drink of the evening at Fouquet's. It was not a solid drink. One cannot drink seriously in French cafés. Out of doors on a pavement in the sun is no place for vodka or whisky or gin. A fine à I'eau is fairly serious, but it intoxicates without tasting very good. A quart de champagne or a champagne à I'orange is all right before luncheon, but in the evening one quart leads to another quart and a bottle of indifferent champagne is a bad foundation for the night. Pernod is possible, but it should be drunk in company, and anyway Bond had never liked the stuff because its liquorice taste reminded him of his childhood. No, in cafes you have to drink the least offensive of the musical comedy drinks that go with them, and Bond always had the same thing — an Americano — Bitter Campari, Cinzano, a large slice of lemon peel and soda. For the soda he always stipulated Perrier, for in his opinion expensive soda water was the cheapest way to improve a poor drink.

Nabygelegen has a very old history of winemaking with the original cellar building dating back to well before its inscribed 1815 gable date. The recent restoration of Nabygelegen began in mid-2001 with the extensive planting of new vineyards and the rejuvenation of their existing ones. With some vines planted in the 1940’s and new plantings coming online yearly, their commitment to quality without compromise is firmly on track!

Nabygelegen, in the heart of the Bovlei “upper valley” winegrowing district just outside Wellington, enjoys a special interaction between diverse soils, slopes and climate, contributing to the farming of consistently high quality, super-premium wines in a very South African style.

A really individual blend of Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay and Verdelho.
Chenin Blanc round and full. Chardonnay lemons and limes. Verdelho Spanish spice and oak. This funky wine is perfect for food, suitable for rich dishes and tapas. Enjoy! A real revelation!

The Nabygelegen Scaramanga 2016 is a red wine, made by Nabygelegen. Its origin is Wellington in Paarl, Coastal Region, South Africa. It is made from the Cabernet Sauvignon grape. It is produced from the 2016 harvest.

Might treat myself with a Bianco and a Smirnoff with a slice of lemon peel tonight.

    Chapter 3 - Hot Ice

...The Chief of Staff paused. He looked impatiently up at the tall figure in the dark blue single-breasted suit and into the obstinate eyes in the lean, brown face. "Perhaps you haven't read the FBI Report on American Crime for this year. Interesting. Just thirty-four murders every day. Nearly 150,000 Americans criminally killed in the last twenty years. Bond looked incredulous. "It's a fact, damn you. Get hold of these Reports and see for yourself. And that's why M wanted to make sure you were fit before he put you into the pipeline. You're going to take those gangs on. And you'll be by yourself. Satisfied?"

Bond's face relaxed. "Come on, Bill," he said. "If that's all there is to it, I'll buy you lunch. It's my turn and I feel like celebrating. No more paperwork this summer. I'll take you to Scotts' and we'll have some of their dressed crab and a pint of black velvet. You've taken a load off my mind. I thought there might be some ghastly snag about this job."

"All right, blast you." The Chief of Staff put aside the misgivings which he fully shared with his Chief, and followed Bond out of the office and slammed the door with unnecessary force behind him.

    Black Velvet
    Ingredients:
    - 1 part sparkling wine or champagne
    - 1 part stout beer

Prepare: half-fill a tall champagne flute with chilled sparkling wine, then float stout beer to fill it. Or reverse, I've seen.

Live and Let Die, Ian Fleming, 1954.
    Chapter 5

    ...
Bond suddenly felt the force of what Leiter had told him. They were trespassing. They just weren't wanted. Bond felt the uneasiness that he had known so well during the war, when he had been working for a time behind the enemy lines. He shrugged the feeling away.

'We'll go to Ma Frazier's, further up the Avenue,' said Leiter. 'Best food in Harlem, or at any rate it used to be.'

As they went along Bond gazed into the shop windows.

He was struck by the number of barbers' saloons and 'beauticians'. They all advertised various forms of hair-straightener — 'Apex Glossatina, for use with the hot comb', 'Silky Strate. Leaves no redness, no burn' - or nostrums for bleaching the skin. Next in frequency were the haberdashers and clothes shops, with fantastic men's snakeskin shoes, shirts with small aeroplanes as a pattern, peg-top trousers with inch-wide stripes, zoot suits. All the book shops were full of educational literature - how to learn this, how to do that - and comics. There were several shops devoted to lucky charms and various occultisms — Seven Keys to Power, 'The Strangest book ever written', with sub-titles such as: 'If you are CROSSED, shows you how to remove and cast it back.' 'Chant your desires in the Silent Tongue.' 'Cast a Spell on Anyone, no matter where.' 'Make any person Love you.' Among the charms were 'High John the Conqueror Root', 'Money Drawing Brand Oil', 'Sachet Powders, Uncrossing Brand', Incense, 'Jinx removing Brand', and the 'Lucky Whamie Hand Charm, giving Protection from Evil. Confuses and Baffles Enemies'.

I just finished reading the book Everyday Drinking by Kingsley Amis and was inspired to start a topic for the drinkers of the board to share their favourite drinks and cocktail recipes.

I'm not usually much of a cocktail man, but I certainly enjoy a good whisky and pint of Guinness when I can. At the moment, I'd have to say that a neat Talisker is my favourite...

Anyone have any favourites to share?
