  • That went better than I had expected, I didn't expect Skyfall to win Best Musical Score.

Dennis Gassner could still win Best Production Design.

    From The Guardian's live feed

    "James Bond victorious

"This is a first for the James Bond films," says producer Michael G Wilson, as he steps up to collect the prize. But the Sam Mendes factor appears to have paid handsome dividends. The Oscar-winning American Beauty director rustled up a spectacle that wowed the critics, re-energised the franchise and rang loud tills at the global box office.

Now it's Mendes' turn at the microphone. He pays tribute to the film's star Daniel Craig ("for his friendship and his sheer bloody-mindedness") and to Ian Fleming, who wrote Bond into being. "Here's to the next 50 years," he says."

So the total score at the BAFTA's for 'Skyfall' is: TWO BAFTA's!!

One for 'Best British Film' (Sam Mendes, Barbara Brocolli & Michael G. Wilson) and one for 'Best Music Score' (Thomas Newman). If I may say so? Considering the fact that 'Skyfall' still is an action blockbuster, this is WUNDERFUL news!

Moreover, it's 'Skyfall' now which holds the record of winning the most BAFTA's for a Bond film ever! 'From Russia With Love' won one BAFTA in 1964 (Best Cinematography, Ted Moore) and 'Casino Royale' won one BAFTA in 2007 (Best Sound).

Guys, fans, stop complaining. 'Skyfall' won TWO FRIKKIN BAFTA'S!! Wunderful, delightful news 8-} !

    Of course I'm pleased.

It'd just be nice if we could swap the cinematography BAFTA for the music one. If Gassner gets production design, then I'd be surprised. But it wouldn't be the first time the academy doesn't "tow the line"...

That's just bad luck.....I'm happy to think Roger Deakins won the silver medal for his cinematography ;-).

Yes, agreed. Of the two, cine was more outstanding then score, but the competition was too heavy and Pi won as predicted.

Barbara's wearing a seriously beautiful dress :) Wouldn't mind one myself.
  • I think in any other year Deakins would be the clear favorite for cinematography, it's just tough sledding that Life of Pi was released in the same year.

It could be three for FRWL and CR as well back in 1964 and 2007 :-S. Why can't we just be extatic about that beautiful number TWO right now...

Moreover, please give Thomas Newman some credit too ok?? It's more polite to celebrate that BAFTA for Best Music Score than to mourn for the lost BAFTA for Best Cinematography. Roger Deakins would say the same. It's also a nice gesture from us fans if we celebrate Thomas Newman's win for now.

By the way: This is only Thomas Newman's second time he wins a BAFTA. First time was for 'American Beauty', for which he SHOULD have won the Oscar as well if you ask me! This is suchhhh good momentum to win the Oscar in the music category end of this month!

I now believe THREE Oscar wins are possible for 'Skyfall'!

No, the Best Production Design award hasn't been given out yet, that's the point I am making. It's a little too late for From Russia With Love and Casino Royale I think.

    No.
  • Excellent news for SKYFALL and the whole production team - Best BRITISH film. To win this over LES MIS (which is nominated in the BEST FILM category) is an outstanding achievment. Well done to Thomas Newman aswell for his BAFTA. I just wish that Deakins had won for cinematography. I haven't had the opportunity to see LIFE OF PI (although I did try )so I can't comment on the cinematography. Hoping Deakins can pick up the ASC award this evening but this is looking less likely as Claudio Miranda has picked up most of the awards so far....

CNN's Becky Anderson must be disappointed, she was constantly saying she was expecting Daniel Craig. She made a scene when she saw George Clooney.

He's known not to be a big fan of award do's he only went to one or two in support of his wife.

Exactly, no big deal that he didn't get nominated, but that doesn't mean he shouldn't be there to root on his other colleagues. Maybe something came up, though.

Also, like myself Dan might not like the crowds as he is very modest and shy it seems at times like this. :)

And Congrats to Anne, so deserved!
