Aston Martin Lagonda concept SUV?
Half of me wants to buy it
(Just joking)
Did you really believe Brosnan as Bond driving a BMW? Come on, he's a spy, not a banker. And dispite DAD not being the best movie, the Aston/Jag chase was memorable. I wouldn't mind seeing a DBS pitted against a few XKR-Ss.
Yes, I see what you mean. A DBS will actually not raise too much attention on the road, especially in London, and it has a clear and simple stylishness. The others look like pumped up muscle cars for pimps or soccer players. Bond should stay away from that image.
The Lotus interlude with Roger was quite amusing. Seemed to suit his campy 70s style quite well.
Like Getafix I also hope the DB5 is used sensibly in Skyfall and we don't see it again for another few films. Gorgeous, but Bond needs to remain contemporary and able to surprise.
Bond actors don't choose the car, the producers and/or studio do. As late as October 1994, at a 007 fan convention in Los Angeles, fans were being told the next Bond car would be an Aston Martin. BMW did a deal very late in the game (which I think was executed by MGM/United Artists and John Calley) and that's how a BMW appeared (briefly) in GoldenEye.
When CR was being produced MGM or Sony Pictures had contract relations to FORD. At the time Aston Martin was part of the FORD Group - that's why alongside AM a FORD Mondeo was featured.
When QoS was being shot the production firm still was in contracts with FORD, yet in 2007 FORD sold it's shares in AM to a british racing syndicate called Prodrive. Therefore it was rumored Bond might be driving a Jag in QoS rather than an AM, as Jag still belonged to FORD, which AM no longer did. Still obviously the producers made contracts with Prodrive as well to feature an AM again - or there were already contracts from the time when AM still belonged to FORD, that migrated over to Prodrive...
In 2008 FORD sold their "Premiere Automotive Group" that consists of Jag, Land Rover and Volvo to Indian based Tata Corporation. As it is already known that Range Rovers will appear in SF, we can tell that the producers have contracts with Tata - so it is very likely that we might see Jags as well.
If there will be additional contracts with Prodrive again that lead to a new AM being featured, remains the question. I don't think that the usage of an AM DB5 indicates this - I doubt that Prodrive as AM's today owner have to approve the featuring of a vintage AM.
Yes, the 3 picture deal with Ford ended with QoS. Ford still ownes 10% of AM but I doubt we will see Bond behind the wheel of a new AM in SkyFall. We have already seen pictures featuring both Land Rovers and Jaguars in SF, so is is pretty clear that Tata has a deal with EON (I have no problem with that :) )
Yes, that seems very likely. For me Jags and Range Rovers are perfectly fine as well - yet when it comes to Bond cars in my eyes AM are second to none :((
On the other hand: as I wrote in my above post, I would not like to see Bond in one of the new released models, and even being the most beautiful car these days (only imho of course) and in my eyes just the perfect Bond car, the DBS for the 3rd time would be a little bit too unvaried. And at least the DB5 will be featured again! And as we hear even in a car chase scene, rather than only once round a roundabout as in CR.
As no oher announcement has been made so far, I wonder if the DB5 might be the only Bond car in SF?
But as Q will return it is likely that Bond's car will be fitted out with some gadgets again - hopefully sensible once, please no come back of the cloaking device!!!
I don't think they will equip an vintage DB5 with new gagdgets, therefore another new Bond car seems likely to me.
I agree, only I hope gadgets stay out of the cars. I'm a bit of a loser, so sometimes when I'm driving, I like to feel like James Bond. I can do the fast corners, accelerating, downshifting, and drifting in the snow, but I don't have an ejector seat or machine guns behind my headlights. Maybe that's something I have to fix with my car, not EON with their movies. As long as the car chases prove to be thrilling, I'm happy. That's the ultimate goal.
Maybe, with the DB5 being gadget-less, and let's just say a Jag XKR (example) having gadgets, there could be a good balance. And I wouldn't worry about a cloaking device, that's not what Craig's Bond stands for.
As for the non-car gadgets, just stick to the standard GPS systems and the like. A certain film from December is a good template to use.
Gooood point, same here! ;)
I absolutely agree! The slide-open compartment for the silenced Walther and defib in CR's DBS were just the right amount of gadgeterie for me. BTW, how come that Bond always happens to need just the few gimmicks they installed in his car?
Who would ever expect an ejector passenger's seat to be useful :-/
But: TADDAAAA! If he has it, he will need it! ;)
Not always true - his Z3 in GE had lots of added extras and he used it to......drive and get a plane.
Oh, you are right there! And then he traded it in for a Cessna. But at least Q once got his beloved equipment back as a whole...
I agree. Seems most people here disagree, though. I guess the association Bentley has with rappers and trashy celebrities puts people off a bit.
Is it just me or does the voiceover sound a lot like a Mr D Craig??? It dates back to Geneva last September so its probably just a coincidence though!
And then I would rahter see "the original" than this Jag that looks a little bit like an AM look-alike but lacks just the bit of style and class that makes an DBS look distinguished rather than swaggery!
Its at least a little different but perhaps one of the new V8 engined Lotus' being launched over the next couple of years would offer a bigger change while still having a suitably 'Bondian' (is that a word?!) image.
