Would you forgo the Brosnan Era to add to the Dalton era?

  • To just touch on LTK, I always thought of it as the proper follow up to OHMSS that we never got. Dalton gets to take revenge for the loss of Felix's wife (who died right after the Wedding just like Tracy) and Felix's ailments. They even have a scene showing that Bond still misses Tracy. That's kinda why I favor it, as well as I think it is a good movie.

Maybe its just me but - as dashing as Dalton looks here - he's got a bigger head of "80s hair" than Brozza has in GE:

(p.s. Caroline Bliss is still lousey :) )

Dalton may have had 1980's hair, (whih I had no problem with that style), but you are aware that he was Bond during the 1980's? Brosnan had 1950's hair in the 1990's.

Bliss made a far better Moneypenny than was her name... Samantha Bond. Bliss was underused, that's all.

Let's not overreact... ;) Dalton may have had 1980's hair in the 1980's, it still looks dated.

That's not overreacting. If I overreacted, I would have said something like 'Roger Moore kicking that fella in the face, in TMWTGG was more badass than Liam Neeson in Taken'. :P As for the secnd part, how can you possibly say his hair was dated in TLD, then just conveniently excuse Brosnans hair in GE?
  • I think Dalts had 80s hair in TLD, but not LTK. I give him a break anyways sine my hairline is about where his was at that time =((

IMO TLD's and GE's hairs are dated the same. Like when I listen to a song from the Bee Gees.

Okay WHOA, stop right there! I can deal with a little bad blood towards Pierce, Tim, or any of the Bond's for that matter...but I will never, EVER tolerate a bad word said about The Bee Gees!

Now that you've mentioned the BeeGees, It seems Brosser did have a bit of a Barry Gibb 'do' going on in GE.

WHOA ! I love the Bee Gees... and when I said 'dated' I didn't mean it in a bad way, just that their songs transport me in an era I was too young to remember !! Their songs are dated in a good way !! A throwback to awesome music and awesome years to live in !!

I always thought Dalton's future archenemy had a more serious case of 1980s hair than Dalton ever did:

    I'll give you a hint-

They did not have Beretta pistols at the time of 14th Century Scotland

heh, if having Mel Gibson play William Wallace was not bad enough, if you've seen the movie some of the cast members actually wear wristwatches and on one occasion an automobile can be seen driving past in the background of all things!

Oh and I never had a problem with Daltons hair either, it all looked very professional

Oh for god sake I was kidding because his hair was barbaric, yeesh!

I know it's from freaking Lethal Weapon =P~

Indeed. Mad Mel's Mullet from the LW films is an '80s icon:

Rather funny we've started talking about Mel Gibson on a thread relating to Timothy Dalton don't you think?
    That is funny!
But back on topic, I would give GoldenEye to Dalton- even is ticket sales aren't as good at the time, you know damn well that it would age to become a much loved classic. Then Brosnan can have TND as his first (and I guess ticket sales would be GREAT) and then would carry on as normal. And hopefully still get a 4th in 2004

Indeed. But it's inspired me to start growing a mullet. B-)

That sounds like a good scenario to me. The ghost of Dalton's Bond haunts GE as it stands. Meanwhile, Brosnan is perfectly at home in TND. But I wouldn't want Brosnan's 4th to be CR.

You know what we've never really discussed on this board? Roger Moore in GoldenEye!
    (runs away) :P

Would work great, especially if you replace Jack Wade by JW Peppah !!

Indeed. But would it be 68 year old Roger Moore in 1995 or GE being made back in the 1973-1985 period when the Soviet Union was still very much with us.

Not to worry Kamal, I was kidding. But wow, could you imagine?? I'm picturing Rog in place of Pierce in a number of key scenes and I'm laughing to myself.
Just picture him diving down the stairs with OO6 shooting at him ("OOOHHHHH!!), coming out of the pool and getting attacked by Xenia, oh (drumroll) diving after the plane in the PTS!!!!

Anyway, I've had my lol for the day, back on topic!

*edit- was your avatar always Mel Gibson or is that new?

It definitely would've been a sight to behold. Long live Sir Rog!

It's new. The discussion of Dalton's '80s hair inspired me to sport an avatar photo of Mad Mel's Magnificent Mullet. He was one of the names mentioned for Bond after Moore left the series. Can you imagine Double-0-Mullet?

i just watched Goldeneye the other night- best bond film of all time...honestly Pierce
is wonderful as Bond- i just cant imagine all the hate towards him...blame Babs for all the bad stuff that happened during his tenture

I don't think he deserves all the blame, but there should be some reserved for him. Dalton seemed to be more vocal when being Bond. I think he even quoted the books on set. Brosnan didn't seem to voice his opinion as much.

It's fairly well known Dalton and Glenn weren't the best of friends. From what ive heard the two had a slanging match on the set of LTK.

First, welcome to the forum! Second, I like that Dalton took the role so seriously. I know I may be in the majority, but if Bond continued in the comical style of Roger Moore it would have lost its flair.

I never knew that about Dalton & Glen. Now I know it's not a concrete source, but I did find this on wiki:

He [Glen] relates in his autobiography that he wanted to cast Timothy Dalton for Christopher Columbus: The Discovery but that Dalton left the project before shooting began; Glen wonders if - following an argument at the end of shooting on Licence to Kill - Dalton did not wish to appear in another of his films.

And there's no link to back that up. Anyone read Glen's autobiography?
