But what elements are needed to make it a bond movie?

It all has to start with story. QoS did not have that. Many of the Brosnan films started out with good premises but they got lost.

When EON goes to recycle it has to be a fresh take despite it being "done before". TSWLM is a mixmash of previous Bonds but it does it in a classy manner : Ski chase ala OHMSS culminating with that great jump; Gadget car ala GF but the scene was played for fun and not taken too seriously-good move; Underwater battle ala TB but like the car it was good fun. By contrast the underwater battle in FYEO, was blah. The ski chase in TWINE was nothing new or exciting, the gadget car in DAD was just plan stupid.

Back to the comment of what elements: good story, good cast, actresses with chemistry and who can act, and a plot that is not too convuluted and overblown and stick to the main story and don't go off on tangeants like QoS.

The thing is you are not gonna please everyone im afraid. When they try something NEW? There appears to be uproar over it! Whether it be the Gun barrel? To DC's haircut! ;)
    Sad but absolutely true.

I agree. Very well put, and it truly is sad to admit that it is true. Over the recent years, things like a Bond who isn't the conventional model, a shorter film length, a new reboot, a closer relationship between Bond and M, and a direct sequel(QoS), have all for the most part been shot down amongst a lot of fans. So it appears EON risks dismemberment if they do anything new in the franchise.

I was thinking... I think CR was very unique because their is an emotional connection with the villain. You understand he is under stress and there is a reason why he is "evil". I think more villains should have this emotional connection. Green was just a bad guy for the sake of it. No character what so ever.
