Each to his own....we will light up our Norwegian Xmas Tree this year from you lovely people with the score to AVTAK being played with bells jingling in the background.

Yes, that is the only one for me. I find it annoying and tedious at times.
I like them all but AVTAK is my least favourite of Barry's as well.

I'd say that Barry's score is by far the best thing about AVTAK. The only Barry score I find lacking is the one for TMWTGG...especially because it lacks the variety that we're used to from Barry and thus ends up being unduly short and repetitive on the soundtrack album.

I'm the opposite actually. I think TMWTGG is quirky, like the film. It does feel sparse and unfinished, but the main hook is quite sparky, playful & memorable. Elements of it show up again in OP 9 years later.

With AVTAK, good though it is, I don't find it elevates the film. There's something a bit lackadaisical about it to my ears. This is all relative mind you, because it is Barry we are talking about, and so they're all good.

Funny I think that's the best one

It's not my favorite either, though I understand many love it. It has its moments like "Mujahadin and Opium" and "Hercules Takes Off," but I'm not that crazy about his love theme here or his electronic experimenting in "Ice Chase."

I would have been perfectly happy for AVTAK to have been his swan song from Bond, but then again I do like how we've had a passing of the baton of the composers through our various Bond actors: Barry scoring Connery, Lazenby, Moore, and Dalton, then recommending Arnold who has scored Brosnan and Craig and will likely score the next Bond as well.
  • I really like the TLD love theme.

I'm not a fan of the Pretender's Where Has Everybody Gone element that is used over and over again (it gets a bit tiresome) but overall I like the score otherwise & appreciate the synthesizer element. As I've said before and read elsewhere, it sounds like Barry meets Michael Jackson's Bad.

I like every EON Bond film plus NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN.

I know, I should have apologized in advance.

Hahahahahaaaa that seems to be very controversial I haven't seen it but a lot of bond fans hate it and some think it's okay but I can't judge it just yet

I dont hate any of the Bond films(NSNA) included. I have been hugely dissapointed by a couple of them, though.

But isn't that Necros' theme. It is used often to signal that Necros is going to do something soon.

I personally like the later Barry scores - MR, OP, AVTAK and TLD - more than the earlier ones. The only two older Barry scores that I really like as much as the newer ones are YOLT and OHMSS.

I think that especially in AVTAK the action scenes become so much better because of Barry's great action score. I also find that the best of Barry's romantic tunes are found in his three last films ... and OHMSS.

What Barry did during the first ten years has never been equalled. Not even close.

    Controversial opinions:
I do not, to this day, like Moore as Bond in LALD. Too arrogant and pompous. However, I love him in TMWGG. After this film, I find him a mixed bag until FYEO and OP where there's a consistency to his depiction that I enjoy (although I will always be a Connery/Craig first fan).

Yes, you're correct. It is primarily used whenever he's around so it must be his theme.

+1. Works of pure genius and much lighter and jazzier than what came later, which had a heavier feel after TMWTGG.

I'm very sorry to hear this @peter. Rog was near perfection in my opinion (like Sean) until AVTAK, when the St. John Smythe disguise was a bit overdone (it seemed like someone doing a caricature of Rog as Bond). I get your point about the arrogance and pompousity, but I love that about his characterization, and would like to see it return with Bond 007.

Rog was Moore like 'Bond' in LALD. It's his best performance by far. The arrogance is perfect.

Bond IS arrogant and pompous ,he is a perfectionist in many ways, especially with his food and drink,as per the novels.

The film Bond, like his literary counterpart, became something of a know-it-all when it came to food although he did tend to be less matter of fact on the subject and more of a show-off.

"You must forgive me,' he said. "I take a ridiculous pleasure in what I eat and drink. It comes partly from being a bachelor, but mostly from a habit of taking a lot of trouble over details. It's very pernickety and old-maidish really, but then when I'm working I generally have to eat my meals alone and it makes them more interesting when one takes the trouble." (Casino Royale, 1953).

Proves a point though doesn't it. Bond calls himself pompous.

Exactly...he knows what he is like and accepts it openly...and if you dont like it then you can bugger off.

    Great confidence and self-respect.

Whether ordering a Martini or skiing off a cliff, Bond never loses the insouciant self-confidence of ‘school’, as OEs refer to their alma mater. It’s almost impossible to fake. He knows how to deploy good manners as a weapon. And he is a snob — a ‘tremendous snob’, in fact, to quote Sean Connery’s description of Ian Fleming, who was initially horrified that his hero was being played by a former Edinburgh milkman.

yes indeed...but then Fleming was an awful snob as well, thats why he was perfect to create 007,bless him.

Roger as Bond in the Lotus while being chased by cars and a helicopter.

when the motorcycle arrives behind them
    Anya:" "James, that motorcycle"
    interruption by Bond
Bond: "It's been following us for the last mile"

when the car arrive behind them
    Anya: "James!"
Bond: "Yes, I know, don't tell me."

    Arrogant perfection.
