Based on the news today, I think it's time to get rid of Barbara Broccoli. She's too full of herself. She didn't treat PB fair and does everything for DC. Because of her, Purvis and Wade have been around too long. If you don't believe me on her being full of herself, listen to the Skyfall commentary. She praises everything as great, and as her idea. Her time should be done. Time for new writers and producers, and start adapting books that aren't Ian Fleming.
Fleming created the icon; the continuation novels just used the icon that was created...
Alright, you're right. But thanks to BB keeping P & W around, we probably won't see that film adaptation, as they have stolen all the good parts. Which have been portrayed badly.
There was no middle ground with DC’s tenure. There are five main people with different problems to blame. Michael G Wilson, and his health problems. Daniel Craig with his negative comments, along with the endless will he/won’t he. Barbara Broccoli with her ego, and standing her ground when everyone else said no. Lastly Neal Pervis and Robert Wade, for always making Bond go on his own, away from Mi6. And the top three for always bringing them back. New blood is truly needed for Bond #7, along with some new crew members in the writing department, in particular.
No just someone making observations. I mean no harm.
Not controversial at all matey,a lot of members in here like that scene and how tense it is (including me !) ,so you are not alone there .
I get what you are saying here. OP is probably my least favourite of the Rog films, but this much maligned scene is underrated.
LOL. I do find it disturbing (and sexist) how BB always gets the blame but not MGW.
I mean, they're a team. If he's not strong enough to stand up to her anymore, well then that's on him.
I think that's a stretch. Most people just assume she has more influence than Wilson.
She has the last name Broccoli. That's why.
Ditto
@Roadphill As of late I have the exact same feeling. I consider the Kentucky ranch scenes among the most boring parts of the whole series. Definitely Sir Sean’s nadir as 007 in my book.
Ridiculous, considering how much influence he has had over the series.
Yeah that part is slow to the point of Boring. It's a strange thing. When someone tells you how great it is over and over again you start to believe it. I just don't.
I don't get the hate. GF is effortlessly cool. And so iconic.
I enjoy it from beginning to end as well, for almost everything being iconic, both for 007 fans and the general movie public. It also has a villain's plot that could still be done today. So many real life Goldfingers out in the world now. For Your Eyes Only, however, has to be the least memorable for me. When, it's not an action scene, Q scene or with the parrot, the movie is kind of hard to remember.
I just like a fair few of the other films more. This thread is about a controversial opinion, and GF outside these boards is universally lorded as the best Bond film. I find it to be a middle of the pack adventure, myself.
Same here, absolutely don’t hate it. I like the first half and the Fort Knox finale very much. Not so much the ranch scenes and I do miss a certain exotic feel to it as well (DN has Jamaica, FRWL the Balkans, TB the Bahamas and YOLT has Japan. In comparison Kentucky looks a somewhat pale and lacks a bit in atmosphere.)
Nevertheless, GF is undoubtedly a good Bond film, just not the very best in my opinion.
Dr. No and Thunderball are much better than GF and FRWL
I wish DAF and SP never happened
QoS is better than SF
Lotus Esprit is the coolest Bond car
I wouldn't say DN and TB are MUCH better than GF and FRWL, but I do have DN ranked above FRWL which is fairly controversial. All 4 are Top 10 Bond films for me though and make up an amazing run.
DAF and SP are both in my bottom 4, so I understand where you're coming from. Honestly, if neither existed, my feelings probably wouldn't be too badly hurt. That being said, each has a couple elements I did like (Wint and Kidd in DAF, PTS and Mr. White in SP).
I definitely prefer SF over QOS, but both are very good Bond films and I think QOS still deserves some more love in general.
Lotus Espirit is awesome. Its about tied with the classic Aston Martin DB5 for me.
I too wish DAF and SP never happend. They are both really poor bond films.
QOS is a better crafted bond film than skyfall, thats also true
DAF just comes off a bit too self-aware after the brilliance of OHMSS. I still have a good time with it though. I like the banter between Connery and Gray, the score is amazing and Wint & Kidd are hilarious.
Can’t say the same for SP, it’s the only Bond film I did not add to my collection. With CR’67 and DAD in there, that says a lot.
As for QOS, it’s definitely more Bondian than SF in my book. The score is also a million times better and I like the location work a lot more. Still though, it has other problems where SF scores better. Both not among my favourites anyway.
I’ve always loved the DB5, but they are overusing it in the Craig films. Maybe my favourite Bond car is Laz’ or Tim’s Aston. Both gorgeous cars often overlooked by the general audience. I’d add the Esprit and the Z8 to complete my top 5 favourite Bond cars.
