That's less of an opinion than a stance.

    I guess it's a controversial stance.

I don't do Bond actor rankings. Don't have a favourite. Don't have a least favourite. They each offer something worthwhile.

I almost entirely agree. Whenever people ask me who my favorite Bond is, I don’t have an answer. That’s because they all could be (except Lazenby). I could make an argument for each one of them being the best. So I just prefer not to rank them.

    Couldn't have said it better.

Dalton should have been M instead of Fiennes.

At an earlier part of the series, yes.

Fiennes is great but Dalton is well...Dalton.

And this would be how Dalton’s M would greet Bond every time he entered his office:

That's how I view James Bond in general. Even the low points have their great points and I can enjoy the books, movies, comic books and video games as what they are: cheap entertainment that I enjoy talking about. That's my controversial opinion.

I dont do them either, at least not entirety. I do have my favorites in terms of preferences, but I can live with only owning the series and be satisfied.

Ranking the films are tough. I know which one my favourite is(TSWLM) I know which ones I really, really enjoy too, but I couldn't really choose a second favourite from those(OHMSS, GE, FRWL, CR) I love them all. I also know which ones are my least favourites (TWINE, QOS, DAD, DAF) The rest are constantly ebbing and flowing, depending on my mood and what I have recently watched.

I’d prefer not to add a former Bond actor into a current film. It would detract from the film and realism. However, had Dalton not played Bond in the past he would have made a great M.

Yes. Probably why I feel Connery as Kincaid, for instance, would have taken the audience out of the film.

Wasn't Connery also going to play a "former Bond" who would train the Brosnan Bond into regaining his own strength again to go and face Zao? Can you imagine eighties film training montages incorporated into that? :))

Yes. That was one of the infamous ideas of good old Tamahori back in the day. Thank god someone had the sense to stop it!

    OK, here's a controversial opinion:

The writers needed a 'connection' between Bond and Blofeld in SP, but the connection to White was already enough.

Rather than StepbrotherGate, they could simply have fleshed out the White-Blofeld connection, and then the Bond-Swann connection too. Then, it's compelling because Bond is battling the man who killed his lover's father, Swann adds to the situation by knowing how evil and dangerous Blofeld is, and we cut out the shoehorned Oberhauser thing.

The link via Mr. White was already enough!

That is not controversial at all I think. I agree wholeheartedly!

That is quite good. Even without any history between the two, the fact that Blofeld was head of SPECTRE and Bond had thwarted the organisation's plans in the past should have been enough to create an antagonism. Heck, even the "author of all your pain" line still makes sense in this context!

    Ugh. 20 minutes in.

This guy is a humourless twit who so obviously dislikes James Bond and found every argument he could against the fictitious character.

We could all do the same about any character, or historic figure. Take everything they say and destroy them (from Obama to Churchill, it's an easy task)

Looking at the bigger scope of pop culture (the majority), and what Ian Fleming was creating, I will take a risk here in saying this guy is full of hot air, mixed with some very interesting history and fact.

If his goal is to make Bond fans feel guilty for our appreciation for this fictitious character, then he missed the mark and, so far, comes off as a pompous douche.

    Ugh.

I got to 30 minutes. And to say it belittles all who like this character (including @Germanlady , or any other female), is an understatement.

    I find this nonsense despicable.

I was nauseated by the 30 minute mark and turned it off.

If I believed even 10% of this shit, my Dad, my kids, my friends, people on this site, are anti-intellectual misogynists and closet cave-man rapists.

Such a hateful piece of nonsense where this guy stood on his pulpit and preached. He was very good at blocking any debate.

That 30 minutes was quite a waste of my time.

Why listen to it, much less get upset about it? So many on here get so worked up about others’ opinions. Why the Hell should anyone care?

I honestly like to hear all sides, but this was quite offensive to a general audience. I listened more to see if he had a point (other than calling Bond and his fans neanderthals). When that wasn't coming, I shut it down.

I only got upset-- well, more frustrated-- because I took the time to listen.

In the end, I turned it off because I didn't care, and I felt his hateful preaching didn't depict reality of pop-films, and pop/pulp lit.

I tried watching the video but bailed out early on, finding it as persecutory to the subject as it was patronizing to the audience. I wasn't particularity worked up over it, since none of its accusations were new or convincing, but I'd be worried if that video proved successful in spreading its view of Bond. At the moment it has more than 39,000 views, so I'm not very worried. And most of the comments are along the lines of "I've never liked Bond to begin with, thanks for showing why." Still, what this video represents is a presentist strain of thought--call-out culture with intellectual pretensions--that seems to be growing.

The guy who made the video, I don't know who he is and I don't care to know, seems to forget one main thing: these are movies, where people don't have to be like in real life, though there are many elements to Bond and Bondian life that are based on things that happen (or happened in the past) in life to various types of people. Yes, many people are way too PC in my opinion. I say forget that. If anything, men need to put more focus on being true to their nature and, while abiding by society's laws and norms when necessary, should feel free to venture to the limits of their experience and beyond--that's one way humanity evolves. But looking at the big picture, this video and any like it won't make a dent in the Bond world. That's partly because some things Bond is involved in have never gone out of style, like enjoying all of life's pleasures, using intelligence information against foes, and kicking ass and beating bad guys--figuratively speaking in some ways for many of us I'm sure--at the very least, not letting oneself be bullied, even by a boss.

The video guy says, "He doesn't think; he acts. And when he does think, it's about sex" or ways to ward off bad guys. Wrong. He thinks about a helluva lot more than that. And he got married once. Not sure what DC's wife Rachel thinks of the Bond character in private, but in a recent Telegraph article, she says Ian Fleming "devoted an awful lot of time to writing this particular character, who is particularly male and relates in a particular way to women". A woman in her 50s who was my previous supervisor had a photo of Craig up on the wall in the office and liked Bond. A February 5 story says "A new poll of 3,000 moviegoers, conducted by Meerkat Movies, shows that 75% of people asked want James Bond to remain a male character." This says something about the character's nature too I think. I found it hard just now to find a poll of women on what they think about Bond, so that must not be a big deal. I don't care what anyone says--I'll love watching Bond movies till the day I die.

If the Bond films didn't appeal to women, they wouldn't have survived. There's a reason why actors like Sean Connery and Daniel Craig became sex symbols.

Recently listened to all the Arnold Bond soundtracks. Controversially I think CR is his least convincing effort with “Miami International” as his worst piece for the Bond films. Equally controversially I rank his first, TND, only slightly above CR. In TND he’s mostly doing a Barry impression while in TWINE, DAD and QOS he finds his own sound and provides a succesful mix of orchestra and electronic cues.

I’d rank the Arnold scores thusly:
    1. TWINE
    2. QOS
    3. DAD
    4. TND
    5. CR

    Controversial opinion:

I don't believe in listening to soundtracks individualy and not in relation to the film. Film scores are not album tracks or symphonies. They should always be evaluated in context to the film.
