This would really fit in to the Netflix production format, but HBO may be an even better choice, seeing as they are fast approaching a content cliff once Game of Thrones wraps up in two or three years. What do other people think? Could it work? Would you like to see a TV drama that strictly sticks to the novel time period and expands on their stories?
I've been saying for years that a period piece TV series should be made. The BBC have done radio adaptations, why not now move to the small screen?
I think a few seasons with bond moving up the ranks to Commander and being apart of various military intelligence would be kind of cool. Actually if they took the idea Michael G wilson originally had for the lving daylights it could be quite cool...
Bond in military intelligence works with an older 007 (insert random name here) to eventually become a 00 himself. sort of a mix between Spy games and the classic higson young bond novels.
Are you so sure? I think that putting James Bond on TV would draw a huge audience, and as long as the show delivered a fun first season, they could make it work. Ideally they would start with Casino Royal being that its the first book, but maybe they skip it because its so similar to the movie and start right off with Live and Let Die?
I'm sure @MajorDSmythe would approve.
I would pay big money for that as well.
I think EON should give that idea some consideration themselves, bringing Dalton back for a one-off to put some distance between the Craig films and whatever is to come afterward.
You say "separate universes" as if the concept of alternate Bond universes is alien. There's a literary universe, a video game universe, a movie universe - actually, two movie universes, with the Connery-Brosnan films and the Craig films - so an alternate TV universe wouldn't be out of the ordinary or alien for Bond. It's something that EON needs to consider, as it would only be more money for them.
A lot of people look at it that way. My point is that the concept of "universes" to Bond isn't alien, and EON would make sh*ttons of money on a Bond TV series.
In both cases (Dalton, Brosnan) it was a missed opportunity to continue with those actors.
Both could have been Bond to this day.
True, but also, some of the best television to be found in any country is on, and produced for, U.S cable networks.
Adventures with Felix Leiter, who has Bionic limbs !
Miss Moneypenny and Tanner as a sort of Steed and Mrs Peel.
:D
I agree the grizzled old Bond idea is not a very good one, at least for a TV show, and neither is a "Young Bond", although a WWII Bond story could be interesting.
No, what I'm suggesting is a period piece drama which holds strongly to the books and expands on each story so that each novel can be made to flesh out an entire 10 to 13 episode season. The idea would not be to make this a headliner on a major network like NBC, CBS, ABC. More likely it would find a home on HBO or Netflix where viewership does not have to be tops in order to keep the show going.
I'd like to see someone take this approach precisely because it would not be dictated by box-office appeal or made to fit a standard TV or Film mold. I want a slow burning well acted drama which is less dictated by wild action and spectacle, and more focused on the characters of Bond, M, Felix Lighter, and the girls which Bond becomes involved with.

=))
Never going to happen.
interesting. Even using the audio from the bbc radio plays.
The 'rights' would be a major issue too.
Yes, it can only happen right now if Eon and MGM were behind it. Although they could do it in Canada.
