I think Dalton or Connery should get that kind of honor. Not the worst 007 ever...
    Seriously.... 8-|

Can't see Sir Sean at his age doing something like this. Makes no sense, although I would love to see it. Craig doing it is the right thing, he's the current Bond and a British megastar way above Dalton's status.

Btw, don't you remember what they did for the 25th anniversay ? It was the first Bond with Dalton, there was much talk about how Dalton was fit enough to do many stunts after the criticisms of AVTAK, and yet it was an "unknown stuntman" who posed as Bond, roped down 20 meters of an Odeon cinema in front of the crowd, and removed his climbing clothes once arrived on the ground to reveal his tuxedo underneath, and enter the theater.

Just looked at the stadium design and I'm gobsmacked - the conspiracy nuts will be loving it - how many all seeing eye towers are there?

Yes, actually I do but it wasn't relevant with Craig being the subject. I'm sure Dalton would have done the stunt if he were allowed to, but Cubby was always very protective of his actors as you likely know and probably nixed the idea. Today's a different day without Cubby.

Apparently the queen will be arriving by Helicopter, according to BBC world news.

    Now let's put 2 and 2 together......

Then I'm guessing Dalton wasn't allowed because he did nearly all of his own stunts for the films.

Living in Essex does have its advantages... well, some: I just saw the Red Arrows literally fly past my lounge window on their way to London and over the Olympic Stadium. B-)

Looking forward to the opening ceremony without doubt now - and James Bond's appearance, of course. Mind you, the supposed latest odds of Daniel Craig lighting the cauldron at 7/1 are daft, but amusing in the extreme... ;)

There's no way DC will do any stuntwork that cannot be carefully controlled because (apart from the obvious insurance risks) they need to be sure he won't f**k it up.

Parachuting into the middle of a stadium with a global audience of billions is a job for a professional not an enthusiastic amateur and they can't afford the risk of it being a cock up.

Obviously Bond lighting the flame would be awesome from a Bond fans perspective but totally inappropriate. Would like it to be some less obvious than Redgrave but can't see anyone else really. Surely not Becks - although perhaps the price of all his efforts was to be allowed to do it? Would make up for Pearces snub.

I'm not sure why I'm having such a hard time finding a proper link that will let me watch the opening ceremony live without having to sign in to a satellite provider.

Yes, YouTube is forcing US (from what I can tell) to go through their cable provider's websites for the live stream. I have to sign in to DirecTV to watch them live, when they'll be on NBC at 7:30 pm EST anyway..

    BUT WHAT IS '16/1'?!?!

I surmise my best bet is to wait until NBC tonight, then. Thanks for that, @JWESTBROOK.

I'm in the US, so I can't view that link. I tried it earlier. Oh well, I suppose I'll wait for NBC in a few hours.

16/1 is another way of writing "16 to 1". A gambling phrase meaning for every 1 dollar (or pound) you bet that a team will win (or in this case, taht Bond will light the flame), you will win 16 if your team does win (i.e. Bond does indeed light the flame). Obviously, the bigger the payout, the less likely the oddsmakers think that event will happen.

Well, at least it is NOT Kenneth Branagh... *sighofrelief*, he already strolled around utterly pleased with himself (and look, there he was again) ... And so this is David Arnold's music?
