You're right. After the Bosman Case, who ironically enough was Belgian, a huge financial gap between the "Big Five" and the others originated.

Good team, Anderlecht! How is the quality of the rest of the Belgian First Division A-teams these days, @GoldenGun ? Not particularly up to date on the Belgian league.
Historically Anderlecht is a big name in Europe with 5 European titles on their tally, though sadly that's all in the past.

Currently our league is ranked 9th of Europe on the UEFA rankings. That's just below Portugal and Ukraine but better than countries like Turkey and Netherlands.

Nevertheless this year we had two quarterfinalists in the Europa League and last year we had a team in the last 16 of the Champions League.

Nowhere near the "Big Five" but the top teams can be quite solid in European competitions.

I see. Here in Norway we can only dream about having a team in the quarter finals in Europa League. (My team) Rosenborg will try to make it to the Champions League this year, but failing to qualify for the group stage at EL last year, and not the best start of this season, I think it may prove difficult. The club celebrates 100 years today actually, and it was mentioned earlier today that the club was probably ranked as high as 14th place of clubs in Europe during their height in the 90's.

And, as @GBF says, the divergence between the financial opportunities between Europe's leagues, will make it difficult for teams from "smaller" leagues to compete against the richest clubs. Unless someone "does an Iceland", of course :-)

@Torgeirtrap I was a kid in the nineties and I remember that I really liked RBK back then. Berg, Strand, Carew and Skammelsrud were the key players as I remember correctly. When I visited Trondheim I went to Lerkendal and bought a jersey. Definitely one of my favourite foreign teams. I hope we can see them competing in the CL again soon.

So fun to read that comment, @GoldenGun ! Indeed all those players have played an important part for the club, and all but Berg and Skammelsrud played in an celebratory show match between older former players and younger former players tonight, which just finished - ending with the younger guys winning in the end.

No matter which club they represent, it's fun to watch former footballers play games. It always surprises me how good their understanding for the game is, years after they represented clubs on a professional level. This was also the case tonight. Some of the passing accuracy the old guys managed to bring out, almost puts the recent team to shame. Incredible to watch.

Hope everything goes well for RSC Anderlecht in the European competitions. They are a team I always end up watching when matches are played on the tv. Hope to catch a game at the Constant Vanden Stockstadion someday!

EDIT: Here's also all the 20 (!) goals from tonights show match:

Yes, it's going rather well. Recently we've been active in the knockout stages of the Europa League almost every year and this season we even made it to the quarters. Next year we will be participating in the Champions League again.

Will be fun to see Anderlecht in the CL again! CL will have one more team worth following :-)

The current Rosenborg team didn't bring out fun football like the old guys did, today. Only 1-1 against Lillestrøm this afternoon, without showing any improvement in the attacking front. Only good thing about this game was the goal from Bendtner, and the pass that created the chance to score. The rest of the game was lacking accuracy across the field, with a result that invite other teams to close up on Rosenborg on the league table. It will be an important away game next weekend, where only three points will be good enough, really.

With the poor performance of Rosenborg yesterday, I really hope Arsenal can bring out a good game this afternoon. Will have to keep an eye on the Liverpool match too, but I'm not expecting any miracles going Arsenal's way. Still, a three pointer could be important for the team in front of the FA Cup final.

Oh, John. On an utterly abysmal final day, this is the highlight. Given the trappings associated with the borough of Chelsea, bless him, he does his utmost to drag them down to the Butlins level of football.

Well, no surprises there. Arsenal won their game; not that it mattered in the end. Of course the victory came with a prize, as Koscielny was sent off with a red card after that silly tackle - missing the FA cup next weekend. On top of that Gabriel went of with an injury too, which does not look promising, and making the defensive option very slim indeed. Enter Per Mertesacker?

-1 point to referee Michael Oliver for not sending off Williams with that obvious second yellow card-situation.

Very happy that Liverpool will be playing in the European Cup next season. Did what was needed and the win Vs Boro ended up being easy.

And spare a thought for Bayern Munich who will now have to ensure 3rd place in their group, to enable them to give Arsenal a beating in the UEFA Cup.

    Sorry, only messing Barry.

Liverpool pip Arsenal then! Wonder how the circus around Wenger's future will go?

Interesting press conference from Wenger. Quite revealing in his comments on some points, but vague as only he can on others - like his future. Will be an interesting few weeks to come for us Arsenal fans, whether he stays or not.

Say what you like about John Terry, there are few players that would remain loyal to a club for 22 years. Easily one of the best centre backs of all time in the premier league. There wouldn't be many clubs that wouldn't of wanted him on their team over the years.
His service to Chelsea is one of legendary status.
And so Chelsea take out the premier league in style. Champions for a sixth time.
    Blue is the colour.

    Lovely stuff.

For a bloke whose mum got nicked for shoplifting from Tesco and does rather grubby porn films Butlins is a step up in class frankly.

However disingenuous it was to the players who actually won the title the day was always going to be about JT. The Chelsea fans seemed to enjoy so it's up to them I suppose.

Sunderland a bit pathetic to agree to the game being halted for 3 mins but given they've already played at testimonial level 37 times this season one more hardly makes a difference.

You won't find many arguing about his qualities as a footballer and the shift he's put in for Chelsea, but as a man he's what most people consider to be 'proper dickhead'.

Conte has brought a significant amount of class to Chelsea this season, but Terry shat on that yesterday with his cloying 'it's all about me' routine. His season has been like The Office Christmas Special. Still thinks he's the big dog at Wernham Hogg, while everyone else just wants him to get on with it and leave. Awful man.

Nothing stopping him getting his full kit on again when Chelsea win it again next season.

    You're on fire today Sir!

'David Luiz will make one mistake too many and then they'll come to me. And then the begging starts. 'Oh JT you were right all along. You're the best man for the job. Will you come back?' And I'll go 'Sure. How much money you got? Cos this is gonna cost you. This is gonna cost you.'

Europa League final tonight. Put into perspective by Monday night's awful events. Even putting aside that I'm a United fan anyway it Would be good for the city of Manchester as a whole if United were to win this would at least raise some spirits.

Do or die for United tonight feeling nervous, United are bound to make things difficult.
