    Cout gone for £142m.

That deal was certainly done before they sanctioned the VVD purchase. FSG hope fans will think they are backing the manager by buying the world's most expensive defender and won't notice £67m going missing into their pockets.

Slap that spare £67m on the table for Jan Oblak and I might start to believe JW Henry isn't just a less uncouth Mike Ashley.

That transfer made the January window more strange – or interesting (depending how you see things). Why complete this transfer in January? He can't play CL matches for Barca this season, can he?

Makes the City move for Sánchez look more realistic, doesn't it.

    _______
Norwich looked solid against a Chelsea team that couldn't put the ball in the net. Will be an interesting replay at Stamford Bridge.

Yeah a bit of a shame he didn't fancy staying till the summer and helping us have a tilt at the CL.

What price Liverpool beating Barca in the final while Cout sits there in his suit feeling a bit of a mug? We had a much worse squad last time; if Djimi Traore can win a CL medal perhaps even Minger can?

    Only against shite teams.

Against Chelsea, Spurs, City, Arse and the scum this season we're on -4 goal difference I think.

Even less of a surprise that Cout has legged it to Barca is Mark Hughes getting the chop. Probably was already going anyway even if they had not had their arse handed to them by Coventry. Bit humiliating for them to tell him to go the same night though - they usually let them skulk off the next morning with a modicum of dignity.

A bit quick decision so soon after a game. Would have expected them to wait until the next day at least. Guess it has happened several times before, though. With Pulis at Middlesbrough, who'll be next at Stoke? Garry Monk? Aitor Karanka?

On the contrary given the dross he's been serving up over the last month and the general malaise that's been there all season. The real question should be what took them so long?

Coutihno was always a dead man walking after the last barca offer but at least he could have played the season out.

Now maybe they will get Lemar or Mahrez or ?
    Wait and see.

Or nobody probably. That is Klopp’s way rather than rushing it. Our creativity will take a nosedive. Top 4 will be a struggle.

Even with the Mahrez figure of £49m being bandied about that would still give FSG a profit of £18m on the whole VVD and Cout deal so I'm not ruling it out. Lemar too expensive as that would see them having to fork out rather than cover incomings with the Cout money.

The key point with our tightfisted owners is that we make a profit in the window which we are doing. Next season presumably Salah on the way for £70-80m to pay for any incoming players.

Moneyball is just about working at the moment, although that's largely down to the ludicrous market where if you have 10 good games you are worth £50m than any brilliant scouting but it would be nice to see some of that £100m Sky money kitty that has mysteriously disappeared without trace.

Salah is the main man this year anyway and hopefully he stays for many more years.

Newport County come from 1 down to beat Leeds. Good effort, cracking tie.

As a Liverpool supporter, Coutinho gone - no problem despite how good he is. Great business and I don’t see why players should be kept if don’t want to be there. Sure a replacement will be found, I’d be happy if Mahrez joined for sure. We shall see, I’ll always be supportive.

Liverpool did well to get that money for Coutinhou, though in the current market it's difficult to gage genuine value of a player.

Really proud of my Norwich boys yesterday holding Chelsea. But it is yet another cup fixture we could do well without IMHO. Purely because we just do not have the squad to cope with the amount of games. OTBC!!!!

Mahrez was player of the year 2 years ago in the epl. Cou nothing............

Suarez bites players better than Salah.....Salah, African player of the year 2017

How many goals has suarez scored this season. 31 years old and he's finished.

Barcelona is being carried by Messi. You should change the club's name to Messi fc instead. :)

Real madrid won the past 2 CL. Poor Messi fc. :)

I am sensing an almost Trump level of matureness in your comment here...

Mahrez had one great season on an in form team. He has not played at the consistent world class level of Coutinho though, who has performed brilliantly through out many seasons and been a key player at the Brazilian national team. I don't think you will find many people aggreeing with your verdict on this. Player of the year awards usually go to a player on a title winning team, which has been an obvious disadvantage for any player on Liverpool... cough... cough...

So winning the CAF award is where we have set the bar for being compared to Maradona now? That just makes perfect sense, doesn't it... especially excluding the fact that there are basically no similarities playing style wise between the two... and not least forgetting the gulf in quality... Talking about Suarez, he actually scored in his fifth straight league match twenty minutes ago on a perfect volley. He has starred and scored in a CL final, won the Golden Shoe twice as well as single handedly making Liverpool a title contender. Call me back the day Salah achieves something comparable...

You are correct though that Barcelona is far too over reliant on Messi. However most teams would be with the greatest ever player. Rather than asking what Barcelona would be without him, you could just as well ask what football would be without him. I am not sure who should be more sorry though: The team that sits comfortably on top of the La Liga table, or the team who's ambitions are to barely scrape a CL place next year and just has lost their best player to said team on top of the La Liga table?

So why haven't Barca come in for Mahrez with a bid well north of £100m then?

African player of the year? El Hadji Diouf has won it twice so the Egyptian Maradona (and how many times have heard this old chestnut wheeled out and they always end up never coming close to the real Maradona) not even as good as him. And presume you would say Harry Kane the English Maradona because he has scored more goals than the Egyptian one?

So because Suarez has passed his best and hasn't scored as many goals that makes Salah a better player does it? I didn't realise best player was measured by how you're playing at this exact moment. That presumably makes him better than Pele, Cruyff and the Argentinian Maradona too then?

In fact if you follow this bizarre inference to its logical conclusion Eric Lichaj of Forest is better than Salah because he has just scored.

4-2 Forrest (penalty again). WHAT THE…! Touched the other foot before going into the net. Should not have stood.

    Red card Forrest (second yellow).

Full time: 4-2. Horrible, horrible game.

Quite possibly the worst performance from Arsenal lately. It's been more than just this one of course, but this was just… I don't know. One less competition to think about for Wenger, then.

Mahrez is probably as good as cou and would be a great signing.

The Egyptian Maradona? Better than Suarez? Mahrez as good as Cou?

You have an interesting sense of humor, pal! ;)

For once we are in complete agreement.

Some of the cou money is going to inter milan apparently as it was in the sale conditions years ago.

Mahrez was player of the year 2 years ago in the epl. Cou nothing............

Suarez bites players better than Salah.....Salah, African player of the year 2017

How many goals has suarez scored this season. 31 years old and he's finished.

Surely you are not stupid enough to not know that "The Egyptian Maradona" is just a nickname.

Is Salah having a better season than Suarez ? Yes or no ?

Barca bought dembele for 90 m. Who.......

Salah scored 2 goals in the game for Egypt to qualify for the WC. Last time was 1990.
    No,not good enough for you.............

Is cou better than Neymar..............No way jose

Did Real madrid win the last 2 CL Yes.. Poor barca :)

You 2 are the 2 stooges of football. You know bugger all . :)

You ask "who" Dembele is, and then claim we are the ones who know nothing about football? You seem to fully master the art of ironic self contradicition! ;))

    Woy knows him.

3-1 Forrest (penalty). I really don't have words for this…

4-2 Forrest (penalty again). WHAT THE…! Touched the other foot before going into the net. Should not have stood.

    Red card Forrest (second yellow).

Full time: 4-2. Horrible, horrible game.

    Feel for you, mate!

Quite possibly the worst performance from Arsenal lately. It's been more than just this one of course, but this was just… I don't know. One less competition to think about for Wenger, then.

Looking at Arsenal's starting line up Wenger took a gamble

Indeed. This results might force him to use a better starting eleven in the other competitions, given the performance in today's game. Not against him starting the younger players, but he should at least have some more regular starters on the bench to put on to turn games in their favor.

Were Ozil or Sanchez in the match day squad?
