Well this isn't reassuring though, is it?!
Here's my Wenger XI. Made way for a few other names, as I have more memories from watching the early 00's Arsenal and onwards. Really wanted to have Tomáš Rosický there, as well, but Santi is the one the current Arsenal team misses, so I couldn't go without him.
I'm seeing all these tearful eulogies about what a great manager Wenger was, and he was great for about 2 years, but there's people saying he's on a par with the likes of Cloughie and Fergie! Do me a favour.
The way people are talking it's as if he's died rather than finally done the decent thing and gone into a room with a loaded Luger and put himself out of everyone's misery.
Let's not forget that less than 7 hours ago everyone was clamouring for him to be dragged out by his hair but now he's a genius.
The reason he's going isn't a well earned retirement it's that he's being allowed to resign rather than suffer the humiliation of being sacked, which is a luxury managers with infinitely better records are not afforded so I'm afraid it's Steve Buscemi violin time as far as I'm concerned.
Oooh! Millwall close after three minutes!
Two years? Can't agree there. He did well until the mid 00's, after that season we all remember. Then the move to the Emirates, which just about destroyed any hope of progressing as a club. He changed the club for the better, so for any Arsenal fan, he was great for more than just two years.
Ouch, that's a bit too much - even for me.
Well let's not beat around the bush. He's not done this out of love for the club he's done it because the board have told him you've got to go and you can do it this way or we can sack you. His longevity has managed to buy him this dignified way out when he should have been sacked about 7 years ago.
I'm struggling to shed a tear when better managers like Cappello, Ancelotti and Jose all get sacked on a regular basis whilst this guy has stolen a living as one of the highest paid managers in the world thanks to a supine board yet now gets to fall on his sword like some sort of hero.
Some might say he's stolen a living for the last ten years, but had any of those other managers been in his shoes, and had the same results, it would have been them that had been announcing this to be their last season at the club. That's the failing of the owners, but there you go.
It's not certain Arsenal would have got anyone better in those early years at the Emirates, either. A club selling of their best players while managing the costs of a new stadium isn't something a top manager would like to take charge of anyway. When Arsenal got out of that situation however, it's then he should have resigned. Again, that's the shortcoming of the club management, failing to make the right decision.
In any case, I'll remember him for the good times at the club. I very much grew up with the guy at the club i follow. That's all that matters for me, at least.
wiz,no offence but sometimes you are full of shit and this is one of them.
Actually take offence if you fancy it .
I'd be amused to see your reaction if, after these last games at a packed Emirates sees him getting a rapturous send off, on the 1st of June he says 'Actually having thought about it, and seeing how popular I am with the fans, I've decided to stay on for another year.'
That would be extremely funny to witness actually! ;)) Hope it happens!
I am just picturing Wenger's final game, all celebrations and fanfare, and the final speech:
- "Surprise! It is not over yet! I have decided to stay!"
I'd love to see and hear the reaction! =))
It won't happen in such a way, but it's an amusing thought! :)
It’s called Premiership standard refereeing.
Man Utd need to pull their fingers out of their arses and get a grip against the scum here !!!
A sad day indeed.
The scum CANNOT get to the final ...i dont care who else wins the cup : Utd,Saints,Chelsea !!
Agreed..the advantage must be huge...whats wrong with Villa Park ? ...Villa were playing away from home today !
1-1 Game on !!
This is looking to be a good'un !
Get in!!!
Can't understand why Wembley is chosen. Money sure, but an unfair advantage, no doubt. What about London Stadium?
I am surprised United did not protest more about the semi final venue
Hard to say that eh ?
But yes...this time i agree....the lesser of 2 evils old pal hahaha ;)
This is basically a home game for the scum...and does the BBC cameraman fancy that ugly bird in the vest in the scum end,he keeps showing her .
