What are Utd playing at? Supposed to be one of the top 5 clubs in Europe? I don't think Barca or Bayern were in the market for Fellaini somehow.

Why didn't they just hijack the Ozil deal at the last minute? 99.9% of players would choose Utd over Arsenal so if they'd just matched the deal they would have a proper world class player.
  • Arsenal fans seemingly think that by signing Ozil, they're now Champions elect! If there is one position the Gooners didn't need filling it was midfield. They're still woefully short at the back and up front. Wenger pulls the wool over the fans' eyes once more

Fair play to Wenger - he's a slippery bastard.

Saturday night Arsenal were a joke. Tonight the Arse fans are appeased and thanks to the two results and the laughable lack of business at Old Trafford its Moyes that will get it in the neck in the papers tomorrow.
  • It's baffling that Moyes would choose Fellani over Ozil. Plus, why did United allow Fellani's buy out clause of £23mil to expire only to end up paying £27.5mil tonight? Makes no sense. How their fans must be wishing Fergie hadn't retired...

If City turn Utd over next week will the rumblings against Moyes start?
  • Looking at social media tonight it seems he already is. Although to be fair Ed Woodward is taking an even bigger hammering from Utd fans.

I thought that myself about Ozil being a United fan, though he is more effective behind a center forward. Not as effective as a deep lying creative midfield player, Kagawa needs to be given more of a chance, certainly in the absence of Rooney. Though Fellaini smacks as desperation, he like Ozil is more effective up field, not good enough on the ball to operate in a deeper role. Though he does offer a option as a battering ram. Though Cant imagine he will start many games.

You would think so, though with the way united are set up under moyes he is not going to displace Rooney, and technically he is not good enough to replace Carrick or Cleverly. Big price tag, very much what Moyes has in mind. Good option to have never the less. Though still feel he is not certain to start. Though short term with Rooney out he most likely will.
  • But Moyes loves Fellani or he wouldn't have chased him all summer otherwise. He'll start every game. You don't pay that sort of money for a bench warmer and it's naive to think otherwise.

He does indeed, though as i United fan i am concerned that we chased far better and more suitable players for what United actually need. Though time will tell for sure, he will offer something different.

It's hard to know who we chased. Either way, we need more bodies in Midfield and I'll happily take a goal-scoring midfielder over no goal-scoring midfielder. Ozil was never going to be a United signing so I don't really see any comparison. Given that we have Rooney and Kagawa at the club, £42m+ would have been ridiculous. We don't need a statement of intent, we're United, but Arsenal on the other hand would have been hounded had they not made a marquee signing. Let's see how it pans out, we've been lacklustre thus far, but of the two clubs to whom we've dropped points, Chelsea were uninspired and creatively moribund, while Liverpool had good shape and defended solidly, but frankly weren't that good either. If we can find our feet and sort the link up between Midfield and Attack, we're a better side than both. If fellaini can offer a potency in this area, then great. We'll probably get battered 3-0 by City now, but I'll wait and see how we develop going into October. Happy to keep the faith. We've had worse starts under Fergie.

Suarez will be back soon and will add some bite (ouch) to the team.

Mamadou Sakho and Tiago Ilori from Paris Saint-Germain and Sporting Lisbon respectively and Victor Moses on loan from Chelsea will boost the squad.

Chelsea just came not to lose but the attacking options they've got at their disposal are frightening. And they have Jose.

If you're already comparing yourself to Liverpool then that shows how far you've fallen in just a few months.

Apart from the RVP chance with a few minutes to go I barely recall feel threatened by you. I looked at the team on 70 mins and thought, unless RVP can pull something out the bag, I really can't see where a goal is coming from. You are really thin on quality in midfield so Fellaini has to be a boost just in terms of depth in the squad but compare Chelsea's midfield with Utd's and its frankly laughable. They can afford to leave Mata to rot on the bench FFS!! Take RVP out of the side and what do Utd have these days that fills you with fear?

The big question for me is will Utd be able to keep anywhere near Chelsea and City in the hunt or will they slip back to such an extent that the race for 4th becomes a race for 3rd as well?

I'm comparing us to Liverpool as they are one of the three teams we have now played against in the league under Moyes. Until we play City, Arsenal, Spurs et al, then I don't know what to expect. Arsenal were dead after game one, if you'd listened to the bleating masses, all of a sudden they are title challengers. That's what I always find funny about PL football, the immediate knee-jerk reactions. United are falling from grace because that's the press line, it has been for years. I don't expect us to be vying for top spot, probably third or fourth, but Fergie's gone, so we'll see where it takes us. As for Chelsea, attacking options are redundant if you don't use them. I also think Mourinho is on a gradual decline into self-parody and it could come back to bite him on the ass.

I think you might be right about Mourinho but I actually feel sorry for Moyes. I didnt think Utd had the squad to win it last year and it was only the Fergie factor that got you over the line. Seems like the board have hung Moyes out to dry because if youre saying Fellaini is the sort of marquee signing that Barca, Real or Bayern would be in for I dont believe you.

Although perhaps the board have said 'feel free to spend 50-60m on a world class player Dave' and Moyes has gone 'Fellaini is all I want. If I dont get him I'll walk.' But that would show he doesnt have a clue what hes doing and I dont think hes that bad.

I think they've dropped a bollock with transfers and I think the loss of Gill is in a way, just as pivotal as Fergie, especially when it comes to putting pen to paper. It was evident Fergie created something out of nothing last season. All I can hope is that Moyes gets them settled and we look to make at least a champions league spot, because I think it's safe to say we're not guaranteed top four - although I won't start to worry just yet.

Is it just me or is the enjoyment of a rare romp for England being tempered by the interminable din of the sodding England Band?

What the f**k has Seven Nation Army got to do with England?

To quote Bond himself in MR - 'STOP THAT NOISE'!

Not really paid much attention to the England game to be honest! Tuesday nights match will be a much sterner test!

I'd never really thought of that before but now that you mention it yeah, it makes no sense at all.

West Ham United striker Andy Carroll has suffered a new foot injury and is waiting to see a specialist.

Glad we got rid of him.
He's too injury prone and wasn't good enough for Liverpool.
  • Well that was truly bloody awful. Why is it when I watch England I just want to smash my face with a hammer? We're so one dimensional. So insipid and tedious. Greg Dyke's aim of reaching a World Cup final in 2022 looks more than a tad optimistic.

Cheer up old son. A decent point and I don't think I heard the England band once!
