The Dutch were already qualified and met Hungary today, for the orange squad a formality but one they took seriously with a 8-1 winning match. The sold out stadion was at least given a Orange coloured show. \m/ :!!

Townsend has been absolutely superb tonight. One of the best England debuts in a long long time. Just see the job out against the Poles on Tuesday now

Loved Theo trying to look happy afterwards but unable to keep the grim realisation that he had just lost his place out of his face.

Do you think he was taken aback by the fact that Townsend can actually dribble with the ball instead of just being able to run fast?

I don't think it's ever been explained to him that you can do both. Probably best not to ask him to deliver a final ball as well or you will really confuse him.

By the way anyone seen Aaron Lennon recently? I think you can safely tell the missus to book that summer holiday in the Bahamas son.

I thought he was already on that summer holiday already. Hasn't been seen in a Spurs shirt all season, and he certainly isn't getting back in ahead of Townsend now. Stoke beckons for him soon...

And then there's always the new Becks - David 'Shergar' Bentley. If you ever want a definition of 'career pissed up the wall' look no further.

    As soon as they qualify.

We Dutch know by now that we at best become nr. 2.

Although the goal was disallowed in the end, are you a bit ashamed of the actions of Leroy Fer? Against the 'spirit of the game' it would seem!

I most likely will be? Not seen it yet but will watch MOTD later. Want us to survive like most people? But I want us to do it the right and proper way willy. What I did find amusing was John Hartson and Garth Crooks in particular trying not to laugh so much about it!

Whilst he should never have taken a pop at goal, the referee's supposed reason for disallowing it was because he 'hadn't blown the whilstle' to allow the thrown in to be taken. Since when have referees ever done that? I heard Fer interviewed on TalkSport afterwards and he admitted he deliberately shot at goal because he wanted to win and in Holland it's seen as fine. I understand Cardiff only put the ball out because it was a Norwich player down injured.

So, the World Cup draw. While things aren't looking great I'm thinking going up against some good teams will motivate us to play better. We thought we had an easy group in 2010 and we only just managed to scrape through.

I don't think it's the best draw for us but at the same time it's not the worst. Playing the game in Manaus first and against Italy, who also won't like playing in that temperature or humidity, is a good thing. I too would rather us play against stronger opposition, we usually just mess up when we come up against the so called lesser nations.

Well that's the World Cup over then for another 4 years! =))
Also a request to Brendan Rogers please! The next time you play my Norwich boys? Can you just play Suarez on his own? We might then get a point?!!! If we are lucky!!! X_X

As disgraceful as it was predictable:

    http://www.theweek.co.uk/football/world-cup-2014/56411/potgate-french-cook-dastardly-world-cup-draw-plot

But not content with allowing the frogs to swerve a tough group FIFA crooks made sure to rub England's and Italy's noses in it by making sure even the spineless French team can't fail to make it to the next round with a group that could be loosely termed 'an absolute piece of piss'.

Classic FIFA and Platini showing he really has the credentials to take over when Sepp goes.

It's not the first time FIFA have changed the rules to the benefit of the French. They did the same thing during the Play Offs four years ago when they introduced seedings. Of course, France still needed the help of Henry's hand to see them through...

    Typical French.

I'm not too disappointed, if anything I wish we'd have drawn a couple of even tastier teams. As we are never going to make it beyond the quarters, I was hoping for three exciting group games. Had we drawn France's group, we'd have had to sit through an inevitable defeat to Switzerland, a last gasp winner against Ecuador and a tedious 2-1 bore-fest against Honduras. Progressing in second we'd face surprise package Bosnia, show the first signs of progress with a 2-0 win only to be knocked out by Germany, after a Rooney red card and a subsequent hammering.

At least this way we get a tasty tie with Uruguay, a prestige game with Italians and a potentially tricky encounter with the acclimatised Costa Ricans. I think it's time we accept that we're about as capable of winning this tournament as FC Copenhagen are winning the CL. Much like the minnows in the FA Cup and the lesser teams in the CL, we should be happy to draw teams bigger and better than we are.

Not to mention Switzerland a top seed?!?? FIFA can come up with as many complicated algorithms as they like to say the rankings make sense but the bottom line is Sepp has presumably had a meeting with the Swiss government and said 'Don't look to deeply into my tax affairs and I'll make sure you get a joke of a qualifying group and an easy group in the World Cup.'

    Fair points.

I'll take going out in the group if the same happens to France. As an England fan I should hope the krauts and Argies lose most but it's France and Greece I want to see humiliated. France for their shamelessness it letting Platini organise such a blatant stitch up to get them this far and Greece for still dining out on a jammy tournament win which happened 10 years ago yet still they get handed laughably easy groups despite repeatedly doing absolutely nothing since 04.

  • Well this year if I'm not wrong, France - England can happen only in semifinals or final or 3th place match.

It would be a good result for both even before the match begins (England never reached that stage in Euro or Mondial for almost 20 years, and while France participated in 3 finals and won 2 in that same period, the current team is not in the best shape).

So far, in Euro and Mondial, England could not defeat France for more than 30 years, so I think the motivation will be on your side if it ever happens...

Group D: Costa Rica, Uruguay, England and Italy.

My country, Costa Rica, has close to zero chances of winning but I wish we give at least a good fight. We don't expect to be the World Champions. I just hope the matches will be interesting to watch and that them don't become a massacre.
But my second team is Italy, so I think my odds are improving (but not that much).
