Alexander-Arnold only got a yellow for this challenge. Nketiah got a red after VAR review for a similar challenge only a couple of games ago. Must be different sets of rules depending on which team the player plays for.

Honestly, am watching the match right now....I don't understand that particular officiating, Arnold should have been sent off as well.

It will no doubt end with Alexander-Arnold scoring the winner now, just to make things even worse.

That would really break my heart. Arsenal have not won against Liverpool for years now. The least Arsenal do is to draw at the Emirates, then get humiliated at Anfield....I just hope Arsenal wins tonight.

First PL win over Liverpool since 2015, actually!

Wow! What a wait!...It was worth it though. It's good for confidence ahead of the FA cup semifinal against Man City at Wembley.

It's much needed, that's for sure. Won't expect Arsenal to manage to beat City, but with the cup very likely being the only shot at European football next season, they have to try.

    Yeah, true.

On the other hand, I expect Pep really, really want to win the FA Cup now that City didn't manage to win the title!

Yeah, that's another threat. And winning the FA Cup would be a huge compensation and relief for Pep. And they still have an edge over Real Madrid in the Champions League.

Almost forgot about the Champions League! City will miss Agüero (if he's still out for the Real Madrid fixture), but they should manage without him.

The only way I can see Arsenal have any kind of chance, is Arteta's knowledge about City becoming a factor. But it will require the performance of the season from his squad.

Wow! Andre was always an underrated player. And I don't think his style was far from Muller's, and yet he wasn't always seen as a threat.

Yeah, I think Arteta would have to do exactly what he did against liverpool....keep players lurking in and around opposition defenders, while they(Arsenal)defend deep and use pace against City. To win against City tomorrow, Arsenal simply have to alter their style and win ugly....Until Arsenal get strong defensive midfielders and centre backs, the flair players would not exhibit themselves fully, as they would also contribute to the defensive work and they don't always do it properly, Coz that's not their natural position.

Indeed. I thought Schürrle would stick around in the game for much longer, proving how good he can be. He now joins the list of players that retired too early.

Agree, I think that will be the way to approach the game. If they play like they use to, the result will likely get very ugly (which it might be no matter how they play, to be honest). They certainly need to make the most out of the few chances they'll get, like Lacazette and Nelson did Wednesday. I wonder if Holding will start tomorrow. He's proven before to be a man for such an occasion.

It's such a shame Pablo got injured so quickly after he was able for selection. Arteta even talked about why he could be so important to the way he would like the team to play. The little we saw of Pablo before his injury was promising though. Fortunately we will be able to see him play again next season.

The only way I can see Arsenal have any kind of chance, is Arteta's knowledge about City becoming a factor. But it will require the performance of the season from his squad.

    Wow! :-O

Yeah, the very same approach would help....True, Holding enjoys a good battle. Similar to what he did against Mane the other night. I hope he starts. I would have loved him and Pablo to start, if Pablo were fit.

It's such a shame Pablo got injured so quickly after he was able for selection. Arteta even talked about why he could be so important to the way he would like the team to play. The little we saw of Pablo before his injury was promising though. Fortunately we will be able to see him play again next season.

Yeah, am optimistic about Arteta, Arsenal and next Season.

Yeah, they're going to give their all.

Already starting to get nervous about the game…

The transfer window worries me though. I doubt Arteta will get the backing he wants – something he did touch upon in his post-match interview after the Liverpool game. I hope they'll be able to sign Partey at least, but who knows how the transfer window will be like.

Wouldn't be surprised if there's something to those Stones rumours though, given that there's a connection with Arteta and City. But he's also English, so I imagine buying him would not be cheap!

True. we just hope Arsenal act for change in the transfer market this time.....coz we are slowly becoming a mid-table team. I think they have no choice than to support Arteta financially, coz they've seen the brilliant job he's done with the somewhat fringe squad....they should know he would do wonders if backed financially.

That's the issue, they tend to be slow getting deals over the line, or simply just use money unwisely. A lot will rely on Raul Sanllehi and his big book of contacts, I imagine, and I wouldn't be surprised if we see Kia Joorabchian pushing for Arsenal to sign one of his players. David Luiz and Cedric Soares are both clients of his.

    Wow! :-O

The transfer window worries me though. I doubt Arteta will get the backing he wants – something he did touch upon in his post-match interview after the Liverpool game. I hope they'll be able to sign Partey at least, but who knows how the transfer window will be like.

Yeah, that's the general worry. True, Partey at least....although, rumours about John Stones and Philippe Coutinho keeps popping up. But all in all, Arsenal would need to add at least 4 players(Defensive Players)to make this team hard to beat next season.

That's the key, defensive players, two defenders perhaps, a defensive midfielder + Partey. Can't see it happening though. A journalist covering Arsenal (who has sources) said a few days ago that Arsenal have apparently been offered to buy Coutinho – as have several other clubs around Europe. But as the same journalist noted, Arsenal would have had enough trouble covering Coutinho's wages if it was a loan move…

    Yeah, all true.

Yeah, they're going to give their all.

Already starting to get nervous about the game…

Yeah, they're going to give their all.

Already starting to get nervous about the game…

Who can't wait to see Leeds and this man in the PL next season? :-D

Yeah, am really nervous about Tomorrow's game. And yeah, to be honest Bielsa's Leeds were fantastic against Arsenal in the first half of that match, we just edged them.

The only way I can see Arsenal have any kind of chance, is Arteta's knowledge about City becoming a factor. But it will require the performance of the season from his squad.

    _____________

    Wow! :-O

    Yeah, all true.

I'm curious about William Saliba though. From what I've read, he's a real talent. Still yong, of course.
    _________

    Also:

    BothCheerfulCub-small.gif

Yeah, indeed :D.....Yeah, Saliba is young, but talented.

Too early to tell of course, but it would be great if he could become a regular in that Arsenal defence, along with Holding, Chambers and/or whoever they bring in in upcoming transfer windows. They need younger defenders.

Exactly, Younger defenders are what we need. Arsenal have always had flair....I think it's time we concentrate on the defensive side of things.

It's been an issue for so, so many year now. You need to have players that are confident in their defending, that can be tidy on the ball and just be a physical presence as well (van Dijk is a prime example). Arsenal have been too unstable in their defending, so much so that it's a source of mockery. With Arteta they have a manager that – by what we see at least – is not afraid to be clear in what is needed to improve the squad. It's up to the club to get the necessary deals done. will they though, that's the question.

Yeah, the club should know that backing Arteta with funds could easily turn Arsenal into title contenders. Coz Arteta is already doing wonders with Unai Emery's team.

Yeah, they're going to give their all.

Already starting to get nervous about the game…

    _____________

Who can't wait to see Leeds and this man in the PL next season? :-D

Yeah, am really nervous about Tomorrow's game. And yeah, to be honest Bielsa's Leeds were fantastic against Arsenal in the first half of that match, we just edged them.

The only way I can see Arsenal have any kind of chance, is Arteta's knowledge about City becoming a factor. But it will require the performance of the season from his squad.

    _____________

    Wow! :-O

    Yeah, all true.

I'm curious about William Saliba though. From what I've read, he's a real talent. Still yong, of course.

    Yeah, exactly.

On a more positive note though, a FA Cup final shows what Arteta is able to do with the current squad, so that might give the club more likely to back him in the transfer window. Wishful thinking on my part, but one can hope.

Yeah, the club should know that backing Arteta with funds could easily turn Arsenal into title contenders. Coz Arteta is already doing wonders with Unai Emery's team.

Oh, I don't know if Arsenal will be title contenders anytime soon – top six contenders more like. Right now they need to get the team into the CL spots again, so that they can do a proper rebuild. It looks like Arteta is the man for that project, and I can't help but think if they should have got him in straight after Wenger left, instead of Emery. From what I heard on a podcast a while ago, Arteta was a contender for the job even back then, but Emery was pitched quite late in the process by an agent…

On the other hand, the club was in all kinds of troubles post Wenger, so that might have been too much – even for Arteta.

Yeah, I agree....being title contenders might seem too far-fetched. But since Arteta is using this same team that Emery didn't know how to use, I can't help but skip my thoughts from CL football to Title Contenders, LOL....Coz Arteta would definitely buy his own players.
